I'm sure somebody on here has!
My father did some years ago. No issues getting a replacement with similar options etc. but you would have pretty bad luck to write off a car early in it's life, as you can afford a lot of repairs before a new car is a write off.

If I think of everyone I know in my family, he and an uncle are the only ones who have ever written off a new car in decades of driving, across maybe 20 vehicles at any one time. So I would suggest the chances of claiming on a new for old policy are pretty low. Based on that, I wouldn't pay more than a a few dollars extra for one with that feature.

    • Thanks, I'll have to do some research as the vehicle I am getting is fully loaded. A new model will be out next year, so I thought it would be an OK option if anything did happen. I know most policies have new for old for the first 2 years. I wanted Life of the vehicle.

      • I’ve never heard of life of vehicle.

      • Noone is going to give you new for old for the life of the vehicle…

I asked my wife and she says not with the car but maybe with my life insurance.

Is there much difference if the agreed value is as much as the new vehicle cost? Then if the car got written off it basically is new for old.
