Are There Better Headphones for The Price than Superlux Hd681?

I've had my hd681's for about 5 years and unfortunately they are starting to die (sounds all funky and I have to bend the cord like an old aerial to get the full definition of sound back). Unless it is a simple repair, I think its time I buy a new pair of headphones.

So are there any better headphones for an all-rounder usage(gaming, music, voice chat, etc.) than these for the same or similar price? If not, I will just be buying a new pair of hd681's (or maybe get the 668B this time if the price is right). I don't care about the look of them as I don't often have people staring at my head while I am on my computer.

It's subjective but I note that the Superlux HD681 are $29 so I think there are many possibilities.

If the priority is gaming I usually start with this thread https://www.head-fi.org/threads/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gam…

  • Honestly if you want an all rounder headset with mic get a sades headset from ebay.

I use it for everything on my pc and an quite impressed for the money I spent which was about $27 AUD delivered which includes 3 or 4 years warranty.

Best money spent on a headset but it is wired and wouldn't take it on a train ride.

Wow they have gotten even cheaper and the range is better now.

Don't expect $300+ sound quality but if you need something that is semi decent these have served me well surprisingly for nearly a year now.

Everyone I discord and voice chat with says the sound output quality is great maybe not radio studio great but that requires extra more expensive equipment and experience this is plug and play and honestly is sometimes as good as yeti microphone speakers.

Build quality is plastic so have to be careful with it and not rough but it is the best value headset I have found.. I really want to compare them to some hyper cloud alphas then maybe even more higher tier headsets but I feel these won't have much difference until you really get a top standalone mic and dac and other fancy mic related hardware but that is something else.

Yeah Sades for me all the way.

Looking on eBay now I actually overpaid for mine and could have gotten a few more if I didn't get extra $4-5 warranty but it felt right at the time.

  • Can you solder? You'll just need to replace the cable or connector depending on where you need to bend it to make it work properly.

    • I have to bend it at the cable going into the headphones. I can solder but don't own a soldering iron so buying a new headset would be cheaper than that anyway.

EDIT: I decided to just get the HD681 EVO this time and see how they go. Maybe next time I have $40 to spend I'll buy a soldering iron lol

      • Ah yep fair call. One option would be to find a Repair Cafe in your area and see if they can fix it for you, or if a local hackerspace exists if they might help out.
