Budget Low Noise Kettle

Looking for advice on a budget priced kettle that doesn't sound like a 747 taking off. Any advice?

  • My cheap kmart cordless kettle (came under the house brand - home essentials) was pretty quiet.

From my experience the steel ones are louder.

    • Yeah I find the ceramic and metal ones make a ton of noise compared to the plastic ones.

I think mine is breville or some plastic one also.. can only hear it boiling but no whistle thank God.

Plus who wants to get shocked by the metal ones.

  • Woolworths Essentials $12.

We have a Breville Quiet Boil kettle.

    It is extremely loud.

I bought this kettle today, and it was so quiet I actually had to double check it was on and working.

    • There seem to be a few budget priced glass kettles that may be worth a look at.

    • +1 i think my cheap kettle was superseded by this one.

  • Thanks. I think I'll try a cheap one as my Breville is loud and manky. I'm not super keen on using plastic for heating/cooking. Anything that is BPA free has just had one dodgy chemical replaced with another. I generally prefer Glass or Stainless Steel for cooking but Glass kettles are expensive, and as everyone says the metal ones are load.

thanks for leaving out this key piece of information

      • I wrote it in the middle of the night while I was waiting for my son to go back to sleep. When the option was brought up I mentioned it to help others refine their advice. My apologies to anyone inconvenienced.

  • Kettles will also naturally get noisier with time as the mineral build up starts (which is always going to happen when boiling water unless it's distilled water) due to the 'changes' in how boiling occurs at the build up points.

Regularly descale whatever you buy so it continues to stay as quiet as you bought it. Otherwise you'll end up in the same situation regardless.

In the Choice reviews, the following kettles were noted as quiet. I have the Breville one (as I use the different temperatures for different teas) and it is quiet. It's also stayed quiet as I've maintained it with descaling.

    • HOMEMAKER QUIET BOIL F-743SQ
    • BREVILLE THE SMART KETTLE BKE825
    • MORPHY RICHARDS ACCENTS BRUSHED KT43866C REV1
    • Thanks. Good advice. I would only consider the Homemaker a Budget Kettle by my standards so it looks like I'll have to go across town to have a look as Kmart don't include model or brand on their website.

  • I purchased a $20 SS Kettle from Kmart today. All of their Kettles are under the one brand ANKO. I'll round off the post with an opinion when I use it. Thanks to everyone who posted.

  • The only small issues I have with the $20 ANKO stainless steel kettle from KMART are that the button to raise the lid doesn't open fully so you have to actually pull it the rest of the way up to fill and the fill window has a white background which is a little hard to see the water against. Other than that it is much quieter than my old Breville SS kettle and I'm hoping the advice from savage bargain about keeping it descaled will serve to keep it fairly quiet.
