I am getting 30 days trial offer maybe because I have never used eBay Plus before. I think 1 year eBay Plus is for those who have used their 30 days trial already.
Never used it. I clicked to sign up for the trial and it showed a $1 fee for me.
Already used it up 30 days trial ends few months ago. Today Got email for $49
50 cent lot of money. You save 50 cent here then you go somewhere else and save 50 cent there. Then you have 1 dollar. Then you buy eBay Plus.

eBay did not offer me the deal at all, even though I had a cancelled eBay Plus subscription because I'm already on the trial version. Lame.

They honestly just say and do whatever they want. Obviously its all about the money for them, which makes sense as a business but really dirty to take off Free shipping on a lot of items & only offer the free shipping if people subscribe to a new service which is literally just the old service they had.

Is there any benefit cancelling straight away vs setting a calendar reminder to cancel in 11.5 months time (other than potentially forgetting)?
incentive to stay may be offered around the time people taking this deal have expiring accounts. eg. $20 gift cards offered to first wave of people canceling after program started

I didn’t get the email, but went to a random item and clicked on the eBay plus advert. Said I’d already had a free trial but it would only cost $1 if I signed up now. Just got billed 99c from eBay via PayPal.

in other words, there's a higher chance of 500 people signing up for $1 than 10 people signing up at $49
(and out of those 500 people, they know many will forget to cancel the "Trial" too )
I got the deal, not sure if it’s because I now spend significantly less money on eBay since they introduced the rubbish Plus membership. In any case it’s a stupid deal as it’s targeted. It going to piss of those who missed out. I rather a flat $10 annual membership for everyone than this targeted promotion for some.

I found eBay Plus to be a bit of a scam personally.
I signed up on a special offer like this, and cancelled my subscription through the website sometime after. The website wasn't great but I didn't think anything of it at the time.
6 months later, eBay charged me again for a subscription. I called them straight away to explain the situation and get it refunded, and was told it'd be referred to a "manager". I received an email soon after stating that there wasn't a record of my cancellation on their end, so they would not refund the new subscription, even though it had only just started and I hadn't done anything with it. Repeated back and forth emails explaining the same situation happening to others (after I did some research online) did not help. They were just plainly, rude about it.
During the time of my eBay Plus subscription, I tried to get a refund just once. They provided me a link to get shipping details and a print out, but the link was broken. I tried a few times on different days, but didn't follow up, so my refund window expired. Their systems aren't good, especially when compared to Amazon who handle a lot of this so well.
I just want everyone to have fair warning about this. If you do plan to not renew, cancel it as soon as you can and make sure you get screenshots dating your cancellation.
As a kicker, I told them to cancel my subscription on the phone (which they confirmed they would) and it's still not cancelled.
Did you use Paypal? Always use Paypal for these subscription services if it's available as payment option, and cancel the Paypal side first so you can't get charged even if there's a problem with the cancellation on eBay etc side.
I agree. I canceled mine 11 months ago and just checked now and no record of cancelling it. Dodgy as.
Always make sure that you received a cancellation email from them after cancel it.

It's random. Chat said it's targeted for people that never activated their free trial but I never activated mine and I'm not targeted.

I signed up with the $1 deal and canceled it after I've confirmed the payment was processed and my subscription will be active until August 20 next year. Are you sure you didn't cancel it too soon before they processed the $1 pay?
Although it provided no real benefit, for $1 having a Plus status for a ywat; sure why not. I'm in if I am eligible.
Worked for me for $0.99. The whole process is however extremely confusing. I wasn't sure till the very end what I will be actually charged.
Agreed, when they asked for a payment method I linked my PayPal account but it only stated 'im gonna charge you' but not mentioned how much. Bit of risky if glitchy on their end

I received the same message twice, because I cancelled my subscription renewal just before the payment went through. Wait a day or so until the payment is settled, then cancel the membership renewal after.
I think it is NOT targeted. Anyway, I didn't received any email but when I opened my eBay app and went to option "ebay plus" I saw the $1 offer. Then I add payment method and got it.

Went to cancel my trial membership, said 'it's too expensive' to the exit questionnaire and got offer a $20 voucher to maintain the current membership..
Tossing up between taking the $20 voucher and paying $29 for the membership or doubling down and completing the cancellation to try for the $1 deal… btw i was lucky enough to get 1 of the Samsung 1TB SSD for $80 so i am quite happy with the service this far.
$29 is better than $49 but not a good as $1
I didn't receive an email, yet I was qualified for a $1 membership.
I received an error message about a declined bank payment shortly after I signed up for the membership though. I reckon the reason is because I cancelled the renewal shortly after I signed up and cancellation could have happened before the payment went through. I will wait a day or so for my transaction to settle, then cancel the renewal.
Not sure if someone already posted this but even if you dont get the email but have previously had plus you can just go to sign up like normal and it will tell you its $1 for the first year anyway!

I’ve never trialed it. I just clicked on My EBay in the iOS app, scrolled down and clicked on EBay Plus and it offered me 1 year for $1.
