I already own a pair of these great headphones. They're extremely comfortable and sound amazing.

There are many reviews that speak highly of these headphones, especially for their price:

https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/3n5eq9/are_you_…

Be aware that these are open-backed headphones. Sound will leak out and loud music or gaming sound will be heard by others nearby.

I also bought a pair for my dad and he was extremely satisfied, so this might also be a great gift for father's day!

FYI, Last time they were mentioned on OzB: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/401551 (~AU $131.46).

  • These may already qualify for the minimum $49 spend to get free shipping. Apologies if the post title is misleading/confusing. I'm unaware of how this works (when you're not a prime member).

  • How do these compare to the Philips Fidelio X2s?

    • +2

These are baby Fidelio X2's. Not in size, because they're certainly as comfortable, if not more comfortable, and have larger ear pads. But their bass is slightly less apparent than the X2's and aren't as deep, the mids & highs I would say are equivalent (give or take), and the sound stage isn't as wide as the X2's.

I would say they are great entry level headphones, probably one of the best in this price range to be honest.

    • standard laws of diminishing returns apply.

      • Speaking economic I like it. Feel like a white person all of a sudden

    • These are very balanced compared to X2HR. I have both, i don't like the 9500s as they sound very flat. I still prefer my Takstars over both of them. If you like the V band type sound don't get these.

      • Takstar HI-2050 ?

        • Yep. both the Phillips were "meh" as i'll have to equalise it to the shithouse just to get it to my liking where as 2050 is only slightly equalised to increase bass to a good level.

    • I upgraded to the x2s from these. I'd almost prefer these! Take note of what someone said below. I can't stand anything but the lightest of bass, so I find anything that leans to the bass side muddies my glorious minds and highs.

I also don't really get the "sound stage" thing too. I've listened to $50 no brands and $1000 senheissers. I think my ears just aren't that sensitive =p

      • I took the exactly same route (SHP9500 to X2) and I have completely opposite feelings - To me, the sound stage and comfort is vastly superior with X2.

  • So how much sound would be audible to others in the room (or adjacent rooms!?)?

Currently have cheap Sennheiser overear headphones I'm looking to replace. Replacing because the ear pads are perishing and the fixed cable is breaking all along the length. Should I look for detachable cable headphones? Not looking at wireless as it's for a PC with no Bluetooth.

    • Definitely not this one if you are worried about sound leakage. It obviously depends on the volume you listen to, but it leaks a lot (and this means you can hear outside things easily too.)

If you want the the least amount of leakage, what you need is a closed-back headphones that are designed for recording (ie. minimising leakage back into the mic) like the Sony MDR-7506 or Beyerdynamic DT 770 which are fantastic headphones on its own. In saying that, most closed-back headphones will be just fine for everyday purposes.

      • Great, thank you very much CheapCoffee!
