      • They're not. I have a 2011 Corolla (basically same as the commenter). For some weird reason, you can't buy Bendix rear pads from Supercheap Auto for this Corolla and have to go with Calibre or buy Bendix elsewhere, so this deal is useless for us, unfortunately.

        You can get genuine Toyota ones from eBay for about $80-$90 a set.

              @Richardc: Bendix DO do rear brake pads for the 2011 Corolla. You can get them from Sparesbox as General CT ones. For some reason, they're not stocked at SCA as they want you to buy the Calibre ones which come from the same company as Bendix, meaning that for those with Corollas like mine, they'll never be able to take advantage of this deal.

                  I have changed Bendix pads on Corolla 2005 before, make sure you get the right ones for the fronts, you might need to have a look which you have. Ashin or Sumo I think.

                    Yeah I have previously too. They're sumos. Have cheapo Bosch ones with DBA rotors, all bought from SparesBox. And man they're noisy when reversing out of the driveway!

                    I changed my rear ones and my front ones at the same time in August 2016; the rear ones wore out first in January this year …

                      You need to note the new rear pad thickness is not that much, I think it is like 5-7mm.

                      Fronts are about 10mm

                          @kerfuffle: Rear pads (genuine) on my corolla lasted 175,000 km. Not much of a demand on the rears -small car. First set of fronts was changed by dealer at 40000km. The second and 3rd front sets gave me 135000km. Replaced both front and rear last month at 175000km.

          Most abundant car in Australia in 2010s, and yet SCA fails to stock rear pads… lost business opportunity. I too have to get rear pads for my 2011 corolla from sources other than SCA.

            @megadeth: They do stock rear brake pads for our car, just by a different brand (Calibre), which is technically Bendix, but because it's not actually Bendix, we can't take advantage of this deal :(

              @kerfuffle: I actually bought 2 x DB1802s Ultra premiums some years ago as SCA were doing 2 for $66 at the time on these ones. One set has finally gone in the car last month. Other will sit on the shelf for another 70000km. Also Calibre must be different quality-wise, for not selling it under Bendix brand name.

                @kerfuffle: It's easy, plenty of videos on Youtube explaining how. Hardest part is ordering the correct pads, the same car can have 3 different versions of brake components! Even Bendix had the wrong pads listed on their website for my Suby. I had to find the correct ones myself.

                  @meiztom: I used to get my dad to change them for me, but because his health isn't as great as it was these days, I got my mechanic to change them.

                  Maybe I'll try change them myself next time with my dad supervising

            @kerfuffle: Yes, extremely easy.
            The tools to remove the wheel already comes with the car.
            All you need is a pair of pliers and maybe a screw driver.

            Although it is best to change brake fluid together while changing pads, but not necessary.

            @kerfuffle: Only if everything goes to plan, which it rarely does.

            Last time I went to change my brake pads, I ended up replacing the brake fluid, redoing the suspension, and getting new tyres.

      I have never seen it come with the Bendix disc brake pads.

      You should be able to do fronts or rears on one satchel.

      Not sure if it is for the guide pins though.
      I just put it on the back of the pads and shims and the part where the pads make contact with the caliper.

      I have to say something about the Bendix pads for my Subaru Liberty 2012, I had original Suburu pads before. When I put the Bendix on, after a few kilometers I had regrets. The Bendix pads do not have the leaf spring that pushes it ever so slightly away from the rotor when brake is not pressed. The rotors were perfect before after 40,000Km. After a few km, the Bendix pads were dragging debris and put some grooves in my perfect rotors. The grooves were caused not by scratching but rather the heat from dragging. Funny enough, after going on a really long interstate trip, the groove seem to have flattened. Anyway this would not have happened it had the spring, debris would not of got caught and dragged. I have used Bendix on my iterations of cars I have had, I think it is a good brand though. Just a warning.

    If you cant find what you are after here, check on brakes direct.
    No BOGOF but usually far cheaper than most other retail stores.

    • They don't sell bendix break pads, which are the best for a daily driver.

  • Off topic, but do people supply parts to the mechanic, dealer etc servicing their car?
    Eg buy 4 spark plugs and tell them to remove that charge off the final bill?

      I do. Not to my dealer who does my servicing because it’s a rip, but my mechanic charges me for labour and happy for me to supply the parts (they changed my water pump which I bought from eBay; genuine Toyota part, and the aforementioned front brake pads)

      You can do it depending on your mechanic, but most of them are assholes that want more profit and won’t fit your part

      • I wouldn't call them assholes, they are trying to make a living and sometimes it's not worth their time if you're bringing in parts and are a scrooge

      • Can kind of agree with this statement, been a mechanic apprentice before & as expected mechanics get a trade price from parts shop & they do tend to charge RRP on the part & make additional on it.
        One time we had someone come in for spark plugs, oil filter & oil which he brought his own & we charged him for our hourly rate & he wasn’t happy thinking that because he brought his own items in it’d be a 80% off the final price including our hourly rates.

      Two pairs a box i.e. four pads. So to change your front ones, you need one box (two pads per wheel). To change both the front and rear ones, you need two boxes.

    I use generally combination of Protex(Rotor)/TRW(Pads) for my Audi A4 (i buy and my mechanic replaces), rather than $$$$ audi center quote…..loool….how do these Bendix ones compare to TRW quality?

    I wonder where Bendix Ultra Premium sit in their line up.

    It appears to be only available from SCA as their website says nothing about Ultra Premium

    For the price, it appears to closer to the General CT than European or Ultimate, i.e. the name 'Ultra Premium' is very misleading.

      Yeah its just the regular, given some wank name to make it sound better.

      Its not the cheap stuff, but its not the best stuff, either. Good for economy drivers.

        I dunno, if there are two things I never skimp on is brakes and tyres.

        For a little bit extra, you get a much safer car.

        Economy drivers don't normally accelerate or brake hard but that doesn't mean they never need to brake hard in an emergency.

          The breaking system, is a whole system. It consists of the tyres, the breaks, the rotors, the suspension, technologies like traction control, and finally keeping it all calibrated. You need to maintain a minimum standard to avoid creating a bottle neck, but upgrading one far above the others won't radically improve things.

            By far the biggest factor of any braking system are pads and tyres.

            Of course you'll need to maintain rotors and suspension.

            I can't really comment on breaking systems though.

      Ryde Toyota on eBay look pretty good; that's where I plan to get my next set from next (my water pump came from them)

    • You can get them for around 65 if you research a little or wait for a sale. So $40 is good if you need it.
      Shoes are more fiddly to change than pads. If you're asking the question, may be it's not for you.

        • Brakes are sold in sets (of 4 pads EA). Each set is enough to go on 2 wheels, as you always replace these on two wheels on same axle for obvious reasons. This deal is selling 2 sets for the price of 1. So unless you get front and rear sets, you have to let the other set sit on the shelf for 40,000km+ before you'd need to change that set.

              @Owgasm: Deal is on pads not shoes so in your case you're better off buying whatever you need from somewhere else (cheaper).
              Each box has 4 pads - which is for 2 wheels (front or rear)

              @Owgasm: Yes you only need one set for the front. The other set (BOGOF) will sit on shelf in your store for years before you'd need that. So think it over. These sets are individually sold for $40-60 during other SCA specials so no need to shell out extra $20-30 if you do not need it (e.g., accidents, writeoffs, selling this car in the medium term etc.)

    Interestingly, does anybody know what these Bendix DB1422-PB are for only $32? They are special order only with free shipping and would still be cheaper than buying the DB1422UP even at 2 for 1. Can't find any info on them on Google.
