So no holidays visting the Great Wall of China this year I take it??

      • -1

I visited the Great Wall when I did a semester abroad in China.

LOL, now go empty your house of every Made in China product..
that means all your phones, gadgets, etc..

Also when going shopping check how many items in the store are made in china..

Your small act of boycott is meaningless to the large scale of products that are from china..

Also at the end of the day people mainly care about how much money it cost them
they aren't gonna spend big dollars if they don't need to…
even if it the chinese gov may be shit etc..

"That is why I currently advocate for a temporary boycott of products manufactured in (mainland) China. i.e. until there is genuine regime change in China."
You will be waiting a long time before this occurs…

Edit: replied to wrong guy, sorry.

Been to China a couple times, in a long term relationship with a Chinese girl and get along great with their parents.

I love China, they love China. No complaints from them about the government. From what I've seen, the people their are happier, friendlier, better behaved, and more courteous than the typical Australian.

Stop reading the bullshit American propaganda and go fight a more worthwhile cause.

        • +1

          better behaved

I keep an open mind except for things I've experienced myself, and they sure aren't better behaved from what I've 'lined up' with - if you could loosely call it any sort of orderly line…

Maybe it's a case of them being so excited about being on holidays that they forget their manners, I can't say.

better off focusing on your quality of life, leave it to 'Murica to demonize, rob and sabotage China. Look @ whats happening in in Hong Kong.
      "Pro democracy protesters" my ass.
Gullible idealistic young idiots are the pawns of the powerful, as usual.

      Very nice investment. $170 huh?

And it tells you your body fat %, bone mass, and body water? All from simply standing on it?
      Sounds magical 🙄

Do me a favor, put a heavy bag on it and tell me the water content and bone density.

I was thinking putting chicken and other meat products, you know it's hard to pick the lean ones :)

        • +1

Joint venture in smart kitchen scales? Your idea there could be the next health craze - hunting the leanest of meat

    • Where is the Garmin smart scale made?
I sincerely hope it's NOT made in China.
What's the brand of your phone?

      • +1

        Taiwan.

      • Taiwan.
My phone is an Apple. Before you criticise, remember I said I was avoiding products manufactured in china WHERE POSSIBLE.
I am also boycotting Google where possible, on the basis of Peter Theil's assessment that they are traitors to Democracy and the West by cancelling their cooperation with the Pentagon, but then turning around and cooperating with the CCP, on their "Manhattan Project in AI".

I see were dickmojo is coming from - living in a democratic country like Australia I doubt we really see what China does with HK and in their own country. But I think Ozbargain should be free of politics (same with religion) - there are other forums. I guess it's up to each individual to purchase the products they want and get the best deals.

But it also makes sense to look for better options - price is not everything. Shopping ethically and environmentally friendly will make an impact the more people do it. It's a very valid discussion for the forums. At 4 times the price for scales … I am out.

    • According to its 2017 annual report, Garmin's facility in China is in Yangzhou. Vertical manufacturing implies that the components of the products are made in China and Taiwan, then they are assembled in Taiwan and the US so that they can stamp the Made in USA or Made in Taiwan. Something like 90% of the product can be made in China and still get a different location stamped on the back, assuming that someone in the next country does the final step of assembly.

    • A ~10% discount off RRP is a bargain nowadays?

  • +1

Bought from official Mi Store AU
$48 with PAPA20 code, free delivery

$12 extra is a small price to pay to get it local

    • why the mi store product looks different to this one?

and also uses 4 batteries vs 3 batteries of this one

      • +1

Different model. This is the one which comes out cheaper @$32

        • +1

          what is different about it?
          and which is better?

strange they call it mi scale 2 for both
which is confusing for the customers..

          • +1

@pinkybrain: The cheaper one only measure weight. The more expensive one apparently could measure 13 different things (but how accurate is it, who knows). Also have 50g accuracy vs 100g for the cheaper version

          • @pinkybrain: Because the Mi scale 1 has two models. One is only for weight, the other one is for weight and body composition.
The cheaper version of Mi scale 1 had higher build quality than Mi 2 scale.
The more expensive Mi Scale 2 used better material (glass top) than Mi 1 body fat scale.

        • So the one in your link is better quality and mire advaced version?

          • @kley78: Look at the model

            NUN4056GL is for weight only
NUN4048GL is for 13 different measurements. Physically it has 4 circular thing on the surface

To make it more confusing, there is an older model of the body composition scale. Looks like NUN4048GL but not glass, only 10 measurements, and bluetooth 4.0 instead of 5.0. Look at the description to know which one you're buying

  • Only up to 150 kg …

    • +5

if you hit > 150kg without even realising the signs, then your parents have failed you

      • Oath Payton, oath.
