At this price, you might want to consider buying a Skull n Co Switch dock, which triples as a Dex Hub, a Switch Dock/charger (safe), and a laptop hub?
    https://skullnco.com/collections/switch-gripcase/products/ju…

At least then you'll get more utility out of it. It's in USD btw.
    Source: bought one from them.

    • Agree, I got one, handy bit of kit.

Interesting been looking for a replacement Dock. Do you need to buy the ac adapter as well or can you just use the standard one that comes with switch?

        • +1

You need to provide power, so yeah the Nintendo USB C charger is fine. It doesn't need power though, for example I can take out the jump drive and plug it into a phone and HDMI it to a TV, no power required but it obviously won't charge.

Way more functional than the Switch dock.

          • @bxpressiv: This is awesome… Was looking to take my Switch dock overseas with a few mates. Feel like this is a better solution.

How long did it take for the order to arrive?

@passwordistaco: I got it through Indiegogo (waited months for development/shipping) so can't really comment beyond saying it comes from China. If I was guessing then I'd say 6-10 business days.

I had my words wrong- if your travelling you can just take the Core part of it, which you can see putting in the pocket:
              https://c1.iggcdn.com/indiegogo-media-prod-cld/image/upload/…

The Core to the Jumpgate dock is just a USB pass-through and not required to make it work, so you only need to take it if you want it physically docked, as opposed to just laying on a table next to a TV. You can just buy the Core part for $39USD if you never plan on docking it and it will do the same thing- just not stand it up.

              Like this: https://c1.iggcdn.com/indiegogo-media-prod-cld/image/upload/…

            • @passwordistaco: About two weeks from their website.

    • is dex just MHL for most smartphones?

      • No. It puts your Galaxy device into a desktop UI. Won't work for non supported devices.

        • i mean the hardware, because currently i Use sentio for desktop mode.

    • Aren’t third party Switch docks dangerous though because no one can decode the actual PD method the dock uses for the Switch? Considering the 5.0 update fried/bricked a bunch of Switches.
I figure it’s a lot safer to just pull apart your own dock and put it in a smaller housing, albeit more expensive if you’re wanting an extra dock, until Nintendo releases an update that fixes the PD errors that are thrown with other docks.

    • Looks sick, thanks

  • Possibly nationwide ?

I spotted them on sale at WarnersBay NSW at same price and didn't think anything of it.

  • shame they didn't put them on the web might have grabbed one. Might go check out city store on Monday but guessing from cdaddy's post they prob doesn't have stock.

    I have one.

For simple use (web browsing, email, word), it does the job well. Excel is a bit annoying as you need to press enter on a box, before you can input numbers.

But no lag, no over heating.

Wish there was another usb port (it has 2), so you can use external storage.

    • Assuming you could always a usb hub or a ps2 adaptor (if you had an old keyboard)?

    • usb hubs work fine

does the job well for complex stuff too.

These days you don't need a dex station to support dex mode, just a generic USB c to hdmi cable is sufficient. So don't buy a dex station just because it looks cool, cos most of us really don't need it.

I can see the benefit of having a dex station, when you don't have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It also allows you to charge when you use dex vs a separate dongle.

    • I know that's the case on my note 9, but I'm not sure if previous phones support that properly. I use my wireless charger along with a cheap hdmi to c cable, works well.

      • After the previous android update it my note8 doesn't need a dex station, which is what this dex station was made for, for dex mode too.

    • Not all generic usb-c to HDMI adapters work.

I have x4 and only x2 worked but not at 2560x1440 with an S10.

      With a Tab s5e, x1 worked at 2560x1440! Yay.

No need to buy the official Dex Pad or Dex Station.

I love Samsung Dex .. perfect as my everyday computer.

Don't need this though .. just buy a generic product.

  • Any in Stock in Brisbane cdaddy?

  • -1

    under wat catalog

  • Is this compatible with the s10 series?

  • Apparently with this official Samsung Dex you can open multiple apps in desktop mode but with non-branded Usb-c hub you limited to 5 apps at a time

    • can confirm 5 apps max with non-branded USB-C to HDMI hub (Dodocool brand).

when you open a sixth app, then the first app that you opened is closed.

      anyway ..
opera app for broweser (allows to force desktop mode)
      google play music app
      file commander app
      gmail app
      vlc app

      that's enough for me

According to cdaddy there were 28 nationwide. Probably sold out now or should be merged with Insufficient Quantity Deals thread?

Tried it once - not that great

    • what were you expecting? what couldn't you do?

Apps like teams still have a mobile experience. Everything opens in the browser.
Chrome is locked to the one account, can't switch between people

        • What about email and word doc typing, I'm buying a Bluetooth keyboard to use with mine

          • @db2k: Outlook was actually okay.
Word documents i didnt try as all my docs are in Teams which opened in the browser. Which was already a turn off

            • @rakkihizoku: I am assuming you already instaLLed the Teams app from Workspace? When I open docs in teams, I have the option of viewing inside teams - or if I click on the Word icon, I can then open up the word doc in Word - and the formatting and presentation is ALOT better and readable …

              • @db2k: Yeah that my teams experience on Windows. On dex it has to either opens the word doc in browser or I open SP then I have the option to open in Word app

          • @db2k: Logitech K780 is amazing … also the similar version without the keypad are great too.
