Are There Any Google Local Guides on OzBargain?

Hi OzB community!
I started getting into Google reviews and contributing as a local guide as a bit of fun competition with a friend.
The one thing that has stumped me time and time again is what kind of photos get more views over others…

Below are links to my top 3 photos.

https://goo.gl/maps/wWXQKBuTWaP1YFza7
https://goo.gl/maps/5Vn7x5A5zivZK7TJ6

Of the 3 photos, I understand 1 is a picturesque view, but the other 2 are of my lunch before eating it.

I'm just curious…

  1. How many OzB members are also Google local guides?
  2. If you are a local guide, how much effort/time each week do you think you spend posting photos and reviews.
  3. What kind of photos do you think people would be more wanting to see from a Google local guide.

Thanks in advance!

I just review a lot of places I visit, so Google told me I was a local guide, lmao.

I don't put in any effort to maintain that badge (I don't even know if you need to put in effort for it), and I have never posted photos - just reviews.

I generally only review a place if it deserves 5 stars, so if it does I put a short description of why I give it five and move on.

    • Do you get many responses from businesses after reviewing them?

      • Sometimes I do, yes. Always appreciated.

  • I'm a GLG Level 6 and a Facebook Editor Level 30.
    (where has my life gone?)

Just check back through your photos and you should be able to find it ;)

You posted some great pics of Affinity Ipl Laser Clinic

    • Thanks! I was an IT guy for quite some time… after a while Google suggested these would be great shots to upload.
      I thought, why not! ;)

That's a crazy number of photos uploaded, tho scrolling through them it seems like you upload your whole photo reel! You haven't culled them and there's like 10 pics of the exact same thing, and there's blurry pics etc.

Maybe need more quality over quantity there ;)

    • I definitely agree with you there…
But the question I struggle to answer is "what defines quality?"
Sometimes i think something is going to make an amazing picture and then it gets 10 views… other times i take a photo of a burger and it gets 129k views…

Relevancy of the photos is probably more helpful when it comes to making decisions on whether I should visit the place.

Photo of a burger (Context: Restaurant) πŸ‘
Photo of a well lit hotel room showing beds, decor and view out of the window (Context: Accomodation): πŸ‘πŸ‘

Photo of a Cisco networking switch (Context: a Clinic) πŸ‘Ž
Photo of something — can't see, it's blurry? (context: anything) πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Ž

        • Lol at the Cisco networking switch.

          • @kati: I guess you could say I wanted to help people β€œconnect” to the clinic

  • I am a Google local guide. My top rated photos usually show the interior decor/general ambiance of cafes.

    • Thanks!
      That's a great tip!

  • I normally post reviews on restaurants or do map edits/fixes.
Somehow a level 3 guide lol

    • Have you had any map edits that were rejected?

      • Not yet, most are places I go often and know quite well.

  • Level 7 Guide here. I usually post HDR photos of different landmark buildings around the world when I travel.
My best photo has 5million+ views to date. It only had 2 million until few months ago, and then I guess it went viral.

    • WOW!
How long did it take to get to 5mill?
What kind of photo is it?

      • It's I photo I snapped in Vancouver in 2014, been out there for 5 years.

    1. Level 6 local guide here
    2. Not too much. basically I'll upload if my phone prompts me with photos. I'll only leave a review if a place is VERY good or VERY bad.
    3. Informative photos, that are pleasing to the eye. Photos of the inside of a restaurant / bar, and a photo of the food.

    My top photos are:

  • I find my sneaky photos get more views. Like kitchens functioning, staff working, random menus boards and opening times from doors.

  • Level 6 here. Occasional review and photo. I used to do a few photospheres until google restricted that to their oem phones.

After seeing how many people are Google local guides, I was curious to know:
    1. How many photos have you posted
    2. What is your highest rating photo
    3. How many views does it have?

      1. 272
One picture has 1,318,264 views and total views of all pictures are 2,826,849 views.
