Integrate reverse camera into Hyundai Accent factory head unit LCD display?

I drive a 2016 Hyundai Accent sedan. I’d like to get a reverse/parking camera installed. I prefer not to get a new lcd screen to fix on my dash, but instead, would like to use the existing factory lcd display. Does anyone know how to achieve this?

I prefer to do this on my own to save some bucks. I’ve seen someone on gumtree who can integrate reverse camera on existing display but he won’t tell me how to do it (obviously) and he’s in SA and I’m in VIC and the price is above $200 too.

If someone has done it or has the knowhow, I’d appreciate it he/she can share it with me. Thanks!

The video is on how to install a camera on an aftermarket Head Unit (refer video at 0:40) and not using the factory LCD display.

      • Does Hyundai use proprietary technology/connectors to connect cameras to their head units?

        • Does Hyundai factory head units have inputs to connect cameras to?

          • @trex: Many use RCA.

Op already have a LCD unit. All they need is a RCA camera and the wiring diagram.

@whooah1979: You are assuming OP’s factory head unit with LCD has RCA input. Check stratbargain’s post below that actually confirms how to do it. Learnt from someone once, when you ASSUME you make A$$ out of U & ME

              • @trex: What we need is someone that may link an image of the back of the unit.

Is it a model that has a factory reverse cam option? If so it’s probabyl as simple as plugging it in and enabling the option.

    • It isn’t, I believe. But there are people doing it on gumtree etc for this car model. Was wondering if someone is aware on how to do it..

      • Which implies that the factory built it to be a factory option. Maybe it just wasn’t available in Aus.

There you go. Just get a cheap one on Ali Express for $10 and wire it up per their diagram…
Be warned you'll need to remove a shitload of trim…

    • That's an interesting lead. Thanks! I'll have a look :)

    • That's a very good find.

  • If no luck, what about those reverse cameras that display in the rear view mirror? Are they good ?

I used one installed in a work vehicle. Didn’t like it. I found it required me to consciously focus on the image in the mirror then switch to focus on the mirror reflection. The screen was quite small too.. I’ll admit my eyesight is not flash but I never really had the same issue using a dash mounted screen. Must be something about years of driving that programmed my eyes to focus on the reflection in the mirror and I had to learn to overcome that to see the little camera screen.

      • Thanks, I’ve seen them around however unsure of their usefulness

  • Perhaps contact the Aussie Hyundai forums sure someone has done it there or maybe do what many do buy the factory unit from a later model that already has one (if they do)

    • I've done it myself, thanks :)

  • Merged from Reverse cam for car

    Hi guys,

Can you please suggest on reverse cam .Bought a new car Hyundai accent 2016 model. It has in car display but neither reverse camera nor sensors connected.i want to connect the cam to the in car display if possible. How much cost difference will be there between fitting it through company and at some external shops.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

    Amar

    • I would like to know this as well. Any recommended shops who can do these electrical fittings near Parramatta?

Also do we break manufacture warranty by doing these fittings not at authorised dealerships?

  • I went to Strathfield radios and jay car and they said that i cannot connect to the existing display and i need to buy a display and camera combination and it costs around 400$ (including installation). Any suggestions on who can do this for a cheaper price?

    • Sound reasonable price.

  • I recently installed a reverse camera onto my mums factory rb 2016 accent. It was simple, rather easy to do. I mounted the camera and threaded the cable through the number plate light. Connected it to the reverse lamps, wiring harness inside the car. It was a green wire on the cars actual harness and a black one. Coming from the reverse lamp it was orange. After powering it, ran it to the headunit and cut off an old female rca I had. Spliced it, ground into the cream wire #14 and positive into green wire #15, the headunit wiring diagram is on the unit itself. And #9 also needs to be connected, at factory they just cut it, so I had to use a small flat screwdriver to lift the grey clip up and allow me to take the metal inner connector for #9 out and unfold the tiny metal pins holding the wire in it, the other end was just loose on the harness (peel back some of the wrap hiding the wires.) clearly had been cut to disable it going into reverse mode when put in reverse. I extended it with a spare 6cm of wire to ensure it wasn’t put under pressure and pulled out accidentally and reconnected it, putting the metal connector back in the clip and pressing the grey piece holding the connectors in back in place. (It doesn’t come out, just lifts up.). After putting the face plates back on and putting it in reverse, it automatically came on so I aligned the camera at the back in the position I wanted it & away I was after screwing it in place.

  • Essentially just connect #14 & #15 to your spliced rca and reconnect the #9 cable.
Power the camera it self with the reverse lamp, ensuring it’s only powered when in reverse.

This is specific to the rb-02 headunit.
Wanted to keep it due to it having apple carplay built in, no need for a big upgrade or a bulky screen on dash or over the mirror.

Most likely will work for other units too that have reverse inputs in the wiring diagram.

(Look on the headunit it self or search rb accent wiring diagram.)
Can normally decipher your headunit model by shape and knobs location / cd input from pictures on google images.

  • Can anyone assist am trying to connect reverse camera to my daughter 2016 Hyundai accent all connect done but does any one know what colour wire #9 reversing wire in the radio.

    Thanks in advance
