Samsung SmartThings Home Automation Starter Kit $249 (Was $299) @ RACV

50

I looked at this last time and now see that there's been a price drop of $50. RACV also now sell the sensors separately for $29 each and the Wi-Fi mesh hub for $159 if you want to expand your mesh network. Seems like a reasonable deal now given that if you were to do the equivalent with Xiaomi you'd spend $30 on the zigbee gateway plus a semi decent router is another $130 and then each Xiaomi sensor ranges from around $12-$18 each.

Description
The RACV Smart Home Starter Kit is the easy way to turn your home into a smart home. Connect, monitor and control a wide range of compatible smart devices in your home and get them working together and in sync with your life. Includes:

1 x SmartThings Wi-Fi Hub to connect your devices wirelessly and make them work together

2 x SmartThings Multipurpose Sensors to receive alerts if windows or doors open unexpectedly, or automate compatible smart lights to turn on and off as you open doors

3 x SmartThings Motion Sensors to receive alerts if there’s unexpected movement in your home, or automate compatible smart devices to turn on based on motion being detected or off based on the absence of motion

Seriously considering switching over my Xiaomi and OpenHab/ Domoticz setup to the Samsung all in one solution.

what is it? what does this kit include?
the deal starts off as "looked at this last time and now see that there's" like it's some kind of journal.
    Facts please!

Why include the router cost into your xiaomi option to skew your equation? This smart hub doesn't replace your router in anyway. This is an overpriced packet so no wonder they struggle to sell and try to get rid of stock. This package only contains a couple of hopeless sensors and as soon as you want to step outside and look for things like light bulbs and cameras then the cost will balloon up more than the like of arlo or nest gears, not to mention Samsung's reputation of a software solution provider lol. Or it might very well like the formerly 'renowned' wemo thingy

    • Smart hub is a mesh Wi-Fi router and a zigbee hub with z wave support all in one. Sensors arent useless as I have the equivalent ones from Xiaomi used in my home automation setup. Theres a huge community that develops for Smartthings much like Home assistant.

I have been looking at this Kit as the sensors work with LIFX bulbs…

But I read in one of the discussion threads that the after sales support is non-existent !!!!

    Be mindful!!!

  • Too little too late. Would have jumped on SmartThings if they had come to Australia earlier. Now Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi is far more capable and far cheaper. However, HA is more complicated setup.

  • I have this and SmartThings seems to be quite buggy. For example, auto door lock is hit and miss - what's the point?
