Stainless Steel Fridge Door - Clear Coat Damage

Hey Guys,

As per the title, this weekend whilst removing some small surface rust stains around the water faucet on the front door of my Stainless Steel Fridge, i unintentionally rubbed of some of the clear coat that appears is applied on top of the Stainless Steel Service.. This apparently is common & I had no idea there was any type of coating on it. I guess its to reduce fingerprints on the surface.

I've gone to Bunnings, Super Cheap etc over the weekend in order to try to find a clear coat product that can be applied to a Stainless Steel finish.. this morning I even rung Dulux to try to get advice as well as the manufacturer.. Dulux have no product for this type of application.. The clear coat products they do sell require service prep so would be unsuitable for a stainless Steel finished Fridge door.. Whirlpool were basically useless & offered no advice at all.

Has anyone else been in this predicament and know of a suitable product to use?

    My old s/s fridge you had to use oil which gave it the clear coat. My fridge came with a spare bottle of it to rub on.
    You can buy the s/s spray oil and cleaner from Coles.
    Haven't used this one but looks the same.

    How about a pressure pack of clear coat? It says it's for metal.

      Did you have any luck? I’ve got exactly the same problem with a Westinghouse fridge. Below the ice/water dispenser the clear coat was removed when I tried to clean some water stains away. See here https://ibb.co/7rns9Lj

    I used Autosol aluminium polish from bunnings on my stainless steel bin and it worked perfectly. I cleaned the top of the bin with degreaser and it seemed to damage the stainless steel. But maybe it just removed the polish. I notice bunnings also sell Autosol chrome and metal polish, and 3M brand spray polish for stainless steel. I've used Autosol aluminium polish and 3M stainless steel spray polish, both used on stainless steel and Autosol worked better. Just like on a car, polish works on coloured paint and on clear paint (clear coat paint). I don't know if fridge stainless steel is coated in clear paint/coat, probably not. I do know if u apply polish to damaged stainless steel, it looks perfect afterwards.
