Will OzBargain Ever Go Away?

Random thought of the day - do you think Ozbargain will ever go away or become obsolete? It's become such a part of my life, but I remember way back when I used to check those deal a day websites religiously, and now they've gone the way of the dodo.

Perhaps there will be some fancy mobile app that is super convenient. Bargain-Reddit?
Or maybe some AI driven service that analyzes your purchase history and monitors sales for only items you're interested in and sends them direct to you?
What's the next Ozbargain 2.0?

Or will Ozbargain become part of the Australian constitution, as will the right to bear Eneloops, hire bikies and draw MS paint diagrams?

do you think Ozbargain will ever go away or become obsolete?

How could you ever suggest such a horrific thing? Shame on you.

Forgive me! Long live eneloops and high yield motor vehicle investments!

Nope, not forum section at least. There will always be people who need others to Google for them, and people who love to do the work to feel good.

    • That's true… I guess this site is not just about bargains but the interesting discussions that go along with them.

You do get a lot of troublemakers on here though…sometimes i read the Find me a bargain forum and you get idiots writing why dont you look it up yourself or putting someone down because of their spelling

Its just stupid things like that like mocking people that i dont like , i guess those kind of people have ugly lives so they need to bully others

    • +6

      dont

      don't

  • Seems unlikely but nothing lasts forever. Owners could decide to shutter it one day if it becomes unprofitable or too much effort or a key bereavement occurs or they get fed up with maintaining it or get sent to prison or finally buy an island and retire or sell it to a competitor or some other group that decides to close it, subsume it into another site or run it into the ground etc.

What's certain is that there'll be others that pop up in it's place though. Maybe not as good, maybe better. But there'll always be something around. Also your life will change and evolve and you may find a point where you don't visit as often as priorities/income/family/work/life changes and focus on other things. Possibilities are endless…

    • Ooo, that's a good one - perhaps they could be acquired by some tech giant who then totally botches it up and kills the community… (touch wood)

Not a chance, OzBargainers are professionals.

It's a bit of a nightclub in daylight now. Peak bargain was back in 2010.

If the AUD ever surges against the USD again, like in 2011, it'll take off again.

      • +1

We just need the USA to double money supply (print twice as much money) again and we should have a brief moment of fun before we return back to 70c.

  • I sure hope not!

  • Your poll needed:
    1. "I came to ask advice about a car accident and I don't have insurance".
    2. "I came to for the MS Paint diagrams".

Ever? Nothing lasts forever. Who is still using Infoseek and Alta Vista here? Or Friendster and MySpace? Meanwhile, there are also people moving away from Google because of various concerns, and I no longer have any idea on what the latest & trendiest social network is. Thanks to @cuteseal for staying with us over the last 12 years, and I am hoping OzBargain still have a few more years of life left.

Well, the website itself might disappear some day in the future, but I am sure the bargain hunters can always find a place to congregate.

Thanks Scotty, for making our lives more entertaining, and also for saving us a few bucks along the way.

You joined in 2012 ; Cuteseal in 2007😕 you hvn't been around as long as you think Spack:b

        • Maybe re-read my comment with this addition:

Damn you just made me look, cuteseal joined only 2 months after you. User number 91

Given it was in the context of my quote, I didn't think I needed to add that

          • @spackbace: Oops! 😳

yep, a 1 in 25000 year meteor will hit the east coast of Australia, causing a massive mushroom cloud, blocking the sun, with 50m tsunami hitting Australia, wiping us off the face of the map.

It'll be many, many years before OzBargain kicks the bucket.
But before that happens OzBargain will be swamped by spAmazon rep "deals" (really inflated advertising) and reps from web stores with the weirdest names posting so called "deals" (really inflated advertising).
Yup reps posting spam will be the downfall of OzBargain, it'll drive the true bargain hunters away thus leaving the gullible shoppers to purchase "deals", OzBargain will not even be a shadow of its former self.

That's a good one. Or Ebay 20% off every other week.

The pursuit of bargains is an endeavour that is compelling, persistent and transcends any one person, event, or trend.

At the end of civilization there will only be OzBargain.

Can I have that printed on a t-shirt, please? I'm not hardcore enough for a tattoo.

I believe this needs to be on the front page, and, or underneath any potential OzBargain house emblem.

MS Paint depiction of the downfall of ozbargain, please.
