Tiger Airways grounded by CASA next week over safety concerns

This is sure to cause chaos during the holidays. Lucky I resisted the temptation to take a quick trip on one of their cheapies.

  • Great now the rest will increase their airfares overnight!!!

    • yeah although they will be safer!

  • until another new airlines starts up AirAsia Aus?????

  • jetstar price matches tiger and when you add baggage you are not saving that much

    • at least i don't need to pay cc fee with jetstar price match and i love to pay using my cc,coz i got free domestic travel insurance from my cc and i got point as well instead of paying using master debit card.

at the end, we are as the cutomer will be the loser if tiger pull out their business from australia. we need more competition among these airlines.

  • First tiger woods got grounded, now the airline? What's with the tigers

    • grrrrr

  • I think it's all over for tiger airways. Singapore airways owns 32% and they'll want to reduce their losses. This is Ansett all over again. My advice is to book next years travel ASAP because by then all the cheap fares will have dried up. We'll see what happens on the sharemarket on Monday. If anyone does have flights booked with Tiger, my advice is to either buy travel insurance now, or cancel those tickets. If tiger goes into bankruptcy customers who paid for fares will not get refunds (as it was with Ansett)

  • How do you get refunds for flights cancelled this week? Do you need to call tiger directly or are they going to contact everyone?

Their website says "Those who are effected will be offered a full refund or credit for deferred travel" but it doesnt say how to orgainise a refund (and who would be silly enough to want a credit for deferred travel?)

    Thanks

    • I'm in the same boat; was scheduled to fly out of Syd with them this week. I'm going to let the congestion settle a bit first before ringing them up.

      • Yeah my trip wasnt urgent or expensive, but I want to make sure I get my money back!

I noticed that on Adioso, the other airlines have offered additional flights to Tiger destinations. Exactly what one would expect, jump in and grab the market of the loser.
