Happens to my gfs pixel 100%

    • Just got a replacement unit from them for this exact reason. Haven't opened yet. Listed on Gumtree. Got a code. Considering it. 🙂

      • Just got a replacement unit from them for this exact reason.

Did you have to demonstrate the issue to them or were they pretty good about it?

      • Keen to find out as well.

To anyone thinking about buying this elsewhere for a similar price. I'd really recommend buying through google. Any warranty issues I've had with them have always been resolved with a upgraded new phone or full purchase price refund with little messing around. For that piece of mind alone I never minded buying at their RRP (But I haven't technically bought a new phone without credit from them since the Nexus 5.

    • How do you get an upgrade as a part of a warranty claim? Is it just because you were on a model that's no longer sold?

      • I remember claiming a battery issue on my Nexus 5 and they replaced the entire device under warranty. Not sure if it was luck or standard procedure by them, but I can 100% vouch for their warranty process/post sales care.

        • I can 100% vouch for their warranty process/post sales care.

I've had good experiences with their support too, just never managed to wrangle an upgrade!

Not always. I had my OG Pixel XL replaced about a month before the end of the 2 year warranty period with a refurbed OG Pixel XL - I was expecting a Pixel 2 XL as I had heard reports of them replacing old broken devices with new models, as you've suggested.

This or the Mate 20 Pro?

    • +2

This comes with less CCP bugging.

    • Battery life sucks. By 5pm at work it's normally 30% left. I'm not a heavy user no music no Bluetooth and on wifi mostly. Would say 2 to 2.5hours of screen time between morning and 5pm. Camera and Google photo is brilliant though.

I'd still prefer my OP7 , never really warmed to the pixel phone … although I'm sure it's great ..

How do one receive the e-mail offer? Do you have to opt in somewhere?

  • Just ordered 1 with code, however, order confirmation still shows the full price.

Is this the same for everyone?

    • have you check your credit card statement?

      • OK, statement shows a pending transaction of half price at the beginning, then charged another half 45 mins later.

        Cancelled my order…

        • Can you send a screenshot of this. I'm confused as how they can charge people again without authorisation

          • @Herbse: They have charged me twice the amount
            674.50
            674.50
            To make for $1349
This is because i used someone else code.

  • After reading this (https://www.gottabemobile.com/common-pixel-3-problems-how-to…), decided to wait for Pixel 4 xl.

    • +2

You do realise that they have this article for every phone ever… and there will no doubt be one for the 4 XL too :)

  • Where is the Google assistant in Australia? Lovely pixel 3xl. Bought another one for my partner. Brilliant phone as they are so tough…. Gestures will be in Australia but I want a robot answering my calls please!!!! If it's not on the 4 I'll wait till the 5.

    • That isn't a hardware issue so a new phone won't change anything.

Just bought an S10+ and for some reason I am tempted. Must just be an OzB addiction in scoring a good deal.

  • +2

Back in stock all of a sudden, sweet. Perfect timing as I am heading out of the country on the 17/09 so I should score TRS as well.

Throw my Pixel 2XL on eBay or Gumtree and help offset the cost a little further. Winner.

    Thanks Google.

  • 4gb ram isnt enough nowadays?

  • Cheers, got one from the code thread.

How's this compare to Vodafone deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/481627#comment-7696817. Considering $25/month for prepaid /phone plan, the pixel 3 will cost only $420 with Vodafone $180 cheaper than Google store.

    • I am sure they are great but for me you lost me at Vodafone.

      • They that bad? Haven't use it for a long time, but kogan prepaid is okay with me

        • +1

To be honest I don't know these days but its hard to forget with the press they have had on here, Whirlpool and other places previously. They may have upped their game but I think there are better providers with better coverage, especially if you leave Metro areas.

  • Boooyeah Been waiting for this deal. Can finally upgrade my shitty Samsung galaxy s7.

Got the email, I think the targetting for these deals usually works if you're paying for a google product, usually paying for drive space. I currently purchase the annual drive space for 100TB for $24.99 a year. But considering I got a free google home mini this year and now this it's been worth it!

    • +1

      100TB or 100GB?

      • whoops 100GB.

I know I prob can get free somewhere, but then I would have to arduously move my 38GB of shit across.

    • I'm curious, why is your S7 shitty? I loved mine until a month or two ago, when the friggin thing started lagging heavily and randomly restarted on me without prompting.

  • I think the only thing that holds this phone back is the 4GB of RAM, which was the same as the Pixel 2.
For contrast’s sake, the OnePlus 5 I bought has 6GB, and I consider that ok for my usage.

My friends with the 4GB of RAM have suffered app closure when using multiple hungry apps at the same time.

For very light use this is a great phone, but I can’t help but think that they gimped it to make sure people would buy the Pixel 4 when it came out - the 3 was under specced for its time.

  • +8

Guys, please double check your credit card statment if you ordered with someone else's code.

I was charged for half price at first, then was charged again 45 mins later, so I would have to pay full price for the phone if I didn't cancel my order.

T&C states the code is not transferrable, could that be the reason?

    • +1

Same happened to me, charged twice for 599.50

    • +3

The usual google selling / service mess

    • +1

Yeah me too - the official invoice doesnt show the discount and google chat are asking me to contact the bank to cancel the 2nd charge - what the fu@

Yeah I spoke to chat and they said the promo only applies to the account holder, so we are all getting charged the other half to make it full price. Worst thing is its been an hour so you cant cancel the order, youve got to receive it then post it back via a self return. These guys have sh*t customer service.

      • These guys have sh*t customer service.

Well no, you voided the T&Cs of the promotion.

    • +4

Read the T&Cs, I posted them on the first page, the codes are linked to the orginal email holder so they can't be transfered to anyone else.

    • I just chatted online & now all looks good. But seriously that matters if account holder or someone else is buying:(

      • did you get half price with someone elses code or your own?

        • dont know whether to cancel my order before its too late

          • @deever: I suggest you to wait. Worse to worse don't accept the delivery.

      • What do you mean all looks good - did you use your own code or someone elses - did they double charge you for using your own code ?

      • Someone's else code

  • +1

Specs a little bit outdated (Processor, screen)

    • +2

It is $600. What do you expect for $600?

  • +2

I got the Pixel3 for cheaper at $560. I still don't think it is worth that amount. Sure the camera is pretty good (not the best though) but almost everything else about this phone is mediocre. I'm actually thinking of selling it now.

    • It is effectively HTC team made HTC phone, bearing the Google's name, some think it worth the premium because it is a google phone.

I still have not recovered from the first google phone HTC Nexus One's touch screen problem

  • +2

2 more years of day one Android updates and direct replacement warranty support from Google, and the only phones running Android 10 today, for $599 is a good deal.

  • U could use for a year and sell in mint condition for 400 bucks

  • Is it worth buying / upgrading from OP5?

  • +2

As per T&C, codes are for personal use only and are non transferrable. There have been many reports of customers being charged the full amount after using someone else's code. PLEASE BE AWARE.

    • That's surprising
They can't just "charge you after". They would cancel the order.

      • +1

That's what I argued with them, they are saying it's just a pre authorization and only get charged when it's delivered. Will know in a week. They also said I can return it at their expense for full refund so will do that if it's full cost, until then, yeah, they did charge me the other half (it's in pending status). I'll Lodge a dispute with cc company for double charge back. Interesting that the invoice doesn't show the discount price, only the full price

        • Do you mind to provide update here once you received the phone?

          • @ausdday: I received the phone, and was charged the full price for the phone in addition to $40AUD credit card fees because the entity that charged me was Google UK, so I stand by my assertion, Google have sh*t customer service. I've returned the phone, they sent a courier out to collect, and now I have to wait 14 days for the refund. I fully expect to have to fight for the $40AUD charges too, such is life.

  • +9

If you're a true ozb, you'd wait until after the Pixel 4 is released and the Pixel 3 RRP has gone down before using the code. It expires 31st December soooo…. just a heads up for anyone who does not need a phone right now :)

    • I'm waiting for Pixel 4 mini, if there's going to be such a thing!

Thanks for the heads-up, almost bought it!

    • Agree, i think people are buying too early.

    • Good to see i wasn't the only person thinking like this

    • Great minds think alike although stock may be limited but that's the risk. We have until December to redeem it so wait it out.

  • Pixel 3 series is a failure to Google, they have to bring the price down to the point is cheaper than its midrange sibling. Looking at 3A series, I think its best for Google to compete in midrange class unless they want to step up their hardware.

    • Maybe they should give it with a Spotify trial membership! ;)

  • +7

TBH,this should be the real price of Pixel 3. SD 845, 4G RAM + 64G/128G storage is the spec of phone in 2018. The advantages of Google phone are merely their GCAM and stock android.

    • +2

as someone just coming from a Pixel 2 to a Xiaomi MI 9T Pro, I have to second this. I'm a all-google guy, but I was very disappointed with the Pixel's battery life. Mine has gone for repair (terrible USB-C port, lose as…) but if they perharps send me a Pixel 3 as a fix, I believe that I'd sell it and stick to the Xiaomi, which btw you can install the GCam on it just by downloading and installing.
My new Xiaomi has the latest snapdragon, 8gb ram, massive battery life, 2 other cameras (zoom and pano), and was still cheaper than this half price.

      • +1

I used to have the Nexus 5 and LG G4. Both had problems after 1 year. Then I never touch Google and LG afterwards. Currently using Mate 9 for 2+ years and it is still running strong.

  • Are the tile prices before or after 50% discount?

  • stock levels are fluctuating, on and off and on again.
Key lesson being, if they are out of stock, check again intermittently.

Spoiler alert - I just bought one

  • +3

Be aware, if you're NOT the original recipient of the coupon code sent from Google, you'll still see the discounted price (50% off) when applying the code at check out, but some time later you'll be charged for the oher 50% because they'll detect that you're not entitled to the coupon code (ie. name or contact details not matching)

See the comments for more info

thanks for making us aware. I've bought it using someone else's coupon code, I highly doubt a company can charge an extra 50% after providing the original tax invoice. Sure they can confirm and ask, which is when I'll request to cancel the order but I'm sure they won't just charge the extra 50%.

      • If you do so you have to cancel within the hour other wise you have to wait to receive it then send it back

      • did they end up charging you an extra 50% ?

        • They did to me! Later in the afternoon they charged the second 50%, and it has now been processed on my credit card.

Now to deal with Google support…

        • not me. should be delivered today according to the tracking.

        • Yes they did. Once I received the phone, the pending charges were removed from the Credit Card and the actual charges were applied. Two lots of $694 which was $674 plus the $20 AUD fee since the originator was Google UK. Have returned the phone now waiting 14 days for refund.

          • @riklarkin: I gather someone posted their 50% discount code on Ozbargain, multiple people used it and had the discounted price showing in the checkout, the first to purchase actually got the discount and the others using the same code were charged full price?

            • @GCSteve: Could be - hard to know for sure from my end, bottom line is I was charged 20 minutes later the second part and the invoice only shows the full price so it might be hard to justify with my credit card company for a dispute. Although, the fact the transactions were 20 minutes apart should stand for something. What you suppose makes sense though.
