Xbox Live Gold 12 Months $43.80 via 4x 3-Month Renewal for $10.95 @ Microsoft (Membership Required)

760

I found this while looking at ways to add some extra time onto my Xbox Live Gold subscription. It's a bit of a hack so bear with me. I also did this while using a private/incognito window in my browser, you may want to do the same so a cookie isn't set that may break the process.

Edit: it appears that if you’ve already upgraded to GamePass Ultimate this won’t work for you. It only works with standard Live Gold accounts.

Edit 2: I see the deal has been marked 'Targeted' per a lot of comments below. I definitely didn't receive an email or notification in the Xbox interface with an offer, I simply found it while browsing the Microsoft store online. So, I cannot confirm it's targeted or not.

  1. Visit www.xbox.com.au and log into your account.
  2. Navigate to Game Pass -> Xbox Live Gold.
  3. Click the button 'Gift Xbox Live Gold'.
  4. This will open a new tab which shows your remaining current subscription. If it doesn't show the current one reload the page and it should appear then. (You need to ensure the page knows you're logged in.)
  5. Click on the dropdown box and select 3 Months. The price displayed should change to $10.95.
  6. Click the 'Extend' button to complete the purchase and agree to signing up for a 3-month recurring subscription, with the next charge due the day after your time expires.
  7. Click the green 'Manage' button and this will take you to your Microsoft account.
  8. Locate the Xbox Live Gold section and click the link to 'Manage' beside your subscription.
  9. At the 'Has recurring billing' section click 'Change' and select 'Turn off recurring billing', then confirm the cancellation.
  10. Now log out of your Microsoft account. Close and reopen your browser and start from Step 1 again. Repeat as often as you like.

I don't know if there's a cap on how much you can purchase, I stopped at 1 year only because my PayPal account had run dry. Also, if you already have recurring billing turned on for your Xbox Live Gold account you may will need to turn it off first before starting.

Once you've loaded up with Gold time, ensure you also stack it with the $2 Game Pass Ultimate deal, if you haven't already taken that up.

    rinse repeat

  • Thanks it worked on my account, but Doesn't work on my Daughter account not sure why. But thank you. now have a Game pass ultimate until October 2021.

    • +2

I had to turn off recurring billing first to see the deal initially

      • Yep need to do this

      • But my daughter account never had Xbox live, gamepass etc. So I can't turn on or off the recurring bill? But it's patch now anyway.

  • Nice, bought 6 months to get over the Christmas. Thanks.

  • Thanks got 6 months

  • +1

still says $29.95 for 3 months. Maybe its targeted. Nevermind, after refreshing the page, i got the offer

  • +2

Thanks, great description op, unfortunately doesn’t work for me stays at $29.95 for me even after refresh and checking logged in😢

  • +3

I also get $29.95 per 3 months. I tried incognito mode, clearing cache and my recurring billing was turned off.
It looks like it is a targeted offer?

  • Doesn't work for me - must be targeted. :(

  • It didn't work for me. I tried turning off recurring billing after the first failed attempt but no good. I could see the new tab change when I clicked refresh but it still shows as 29.95. Bummer this would be good. Just got a new racing wheel to go with Forza Motorsport 7.

  • yep seems to have been patched.

    • I just tried it myself and it’s not working any more so I suspect you’re right. Bummer. I was hoping a lot of other Ozbargainers would be able to benefit from it. :-(

  • Anyone know What’s the best deal around for 12 months, my membership runs out on Monday? Thx

  • +2

Not sure why this is expired, I just got 3 years worth and ultimate for about $133

    • Looking to get 3 years worth too. How did you manage to get it for $133?

    • as it stands, it doesn't work. It hasnt for a few hours. So dunno how you're saying it works. We need proof. Interestingly, xbox live services are down. Ozbargained? :P

      • I just followed OP's instructions. Worked for me. Did 12 x 3 months @$10.95. My last transaction was around 9:15am. Can't seem to access the page now, perhaps I was the lucky last….

  • This is still working. I've just extended until mid 2021. :-)

  • Definitely still working, I got 9 months in this morning before Live went down, just finished getting it up to 3 years plus adding on Game Pass at the end.

You don't have to log out each time either, I just kept going back to the gift button.

    • Okay, so maybe it wasn’t working because Live was broken? Good news if that’s the case. Thanks for sharing!

      • Still not working here. I'm guessing it's just targeted, simple as that.

  • Tried following the same instructions just now and 3 months sub is still showing as $29.95 for me. 1 month is $10.95

  • Thanks op. Excellent find and very clear instructions. Worked a treat for me.

  • Does this not work if you already have converted to XBox Game Pass Ultimate?

    • hmm could be, I'm also in the same boat and also can't see the offer

  • Tried a few different ways last night on my phone and now on my pc, still says $29.95 for 3 months although I've taken up a last minute renewal deal in the past with Xbox live to extend my subscription so maybe that's counting against me (and us - for those who it doesn't work for?)

Even still, considering just topping up to 3 years and converting to Game Pass Ultimate, that hack alone with games covered moving to new gen will probs be worth it?

  • Also not working for me

  • I was just able to renew for 4 X 3 months.

  • +1

I managed to do it once but it wouldn't let me do it a second time.

Did anyone get an email from Microsoft after doing it the first time saying the following?
You'll be billed every 3 months at AU$10.95 until you cancel. We'll email you ahead of time if that price ever changes.
Manage your subscription to review the latest info, change how you pay, or cancel at any time to stop future charges. Enjoy!

Yet when I click on the manage page it says $29.95 every 3 months. Surely I could just let this play out and then force them to refund the difference?

    • +1

You need to go to your subscriptions page and cancel the billing recurrence. Once you do that go back to the 'gift xbox live' page and the 3 month for 10.95 option will show up again.

      • Will try again when i get home. Thanks heaps!

  • Damn it, I just did the gamepass trick over the weekend but couldnt max out as there was not cheap option for 9 months… :-(

  • +1

Still no luck for me, but thanks. Even rejoined for one month as mine has just expired to see if the deal was back on ☹️

  • Thanks, successful got 7x 3 months Xbox live gold for $10.95 each, then got 2 months Xbox games ultimate for $2, finally upgraded to 36 months Xbox games ultimate! Total cost is less than $100. Purchase through safari of iPhone, failed in chrome(iPhone) and pc.

I came across this method, and was about to post it, but I it's already been posted BUT I think there is an easier way.

    1) copy this link

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/p/xbox-live-gold/CFQ7TTC0K5D…

    2) Click and HOLD the link (don't let go until you see step 3 option) with your finger.

    3) Click "Open in Incognito Tab"
    4) Sign into your account.
    5) Extend your xbox live gold membership 3 months (at $10.99 AUS).
    6) Turn Off recurring billing (on your Xbox Live Gold subscription).

You can repeat this as many times as you like.

No need to clear cache or cookies etc. No need to sign in and out.

No need to close and reopen browser (I used Chrome on my phone).

Just click back button on the phone until you get the first incognito page where you started.

You can also paste the address you copied here, and paste it into the same incognito tab (instead of having to click back).

Ps. This link is different from the one in the OP's post, so if it didn't work for you before, you can try this link (if it's targeted this link may work for you, where just logging in and navigating to the right page may not).

    • +1

Thank for the sharing but this has to be targeted.I tried your way and (and many other ways including logging in from different country! ) and still shows me full price $29.95 for 3 months

      • Oh crap. Sorry mate. I guess those who could got lucky.

      • I think that it was showing that I could gift it at that price too, so maybe you could log in with a different account and see if you can gift it to yourself?

      • Someone mentioned that it could be targeted at current subscribers with 3+ months Xbox Live Gold left.

    • This is still working as of today, BUT you do seem to need the offer on your account to start with. Been iterating for the past 5m lol I assume it will stop me at 3y.

All done and with the current $1 Game Pass Ultimate promo thats 36 months for $132.40 or $3.70 per month. That's fantastic value, thanks Microsoft!

  • I am an existing Xbox Live Gold subscriber, and I was able to use this offer (so not necessarily for new and inactive accounts only).

  • Day one of post
    Had no gold failed
Added 1 month gold to expired sub failed
Added 1 month game pass to acc failed

Tried for nxt few days still failed, still failing

P.s does everyone else get offer of special offers page enter email address to join between pressing gift Xbox live and seeing 1 month @ $10.95 box at least once.

    • I'm not sure what you mean, but it seems to be a targeted offer, even targeted at people like me who had no idea of this offer (and I kept looking because I needed xbox live gold.

Others appear to simply be unable to take advantage of it after they log into their own account.

But, it must be mentioned, that you MUST have recurring billing on your Xbox Live Gold subscription TURNED OFF before trying this, or you will NOT see this offer.

  • +1

No deal for me unfortunately. Followed the instructions to the dot. Good deal for those who can get it but it should be marked as targeted.

    • I agree. It could save some people a lot of time trying to get something that they simply can't, because you have to login first before you can see the discounted price, which means that they could offer it to some users but not others (this is a very annoying way that M$ does business btw, that and charging Aussies more for the same digital content, etc).

    • I was curious if I could get the deal with one of the 15 or so hotmail accounts I have, and no luck.

The account I tried had Xbox Live Gold expired 3 years ago, so it may actually be for some current members only?

It would be great if they rewarded loyal customers that way.

Btw. I'm an Xbox "Ambassador" (along with 400k or 4 million others) so I wonder if they were targeting those users?

It'd be good to know if people who were not ambassadors, and who had a current Gold/Ultimate subscription, were able to use this deal.

Because if that's what it is (very small chance but it's possible) then joining the Xbox "Ambassador" program is a one click process, and would be an easy fix.

  • Ambassador made no diff, thx anyway,

Believe needed minimum no of months of Xbox live (at least 3 months or more live ) required before deal posted to qualify which is my main difference to other posters

  • I've tried on iOS and Windows, Safari, Chrome, Edge. Turned auto billing on/off. Regular browser window, private/Incognito window. Nothing works.

    Any other tips??

I've got a current normal xbox live gold until 2 October this year. Really hoping I find a good deal soon and this looked like an absolute winner. Just can't make it work.

    • Someone mentioned that it could be targeted at current subscribers with 3+ months Xbox Live Gold left.

      • That's definitely not the case. I had zero months left (my subscription had lapsed months ago).

        • That's what I meant mate.

The guy said it could be targeted at people with current subscription paid up for at least 3 months ahead.

Not for new or lapsed subscribers (all the comments I remember reading from lapsed or new customers had no luck

          • @BooYa: I had a lapsed subscription and I was able to buy 3 years worth of Gold and then upgrade it to Ultimate for $1…

            • @mrmachine: Oooh, you mean you were able to get the offer but had less than 3 months, or none, left, and still got the deal.

Well, that's one myth dispelled then.

              • +1

@BooYa: It helps having these comments, to try and narrow down who is eligible, or what conditions are necessary.

I tried again on the work network, just in case being at a new address (IP) makes a difference. Still no luck.

          • @BooYa: duplicate

  • +1

Worked for me. Just got 3 years ultimate for $132.40. It took a while. I followed the steps exactly, but after step 9 instead of logging out and starting at step 1, I just went back to step 3 in the tab that was still open.

  • Thanks OP!

  • I can't get this to work either, it just comes up with the 3 months for $29.95.

I last used codes rather than paying for live gold, so not sure if that's the reason it won't work, plus I can't find an option to turn off the reoccurring payment option…

    • +1

It definitely won't work unless you first disable recurring payments. I've used codes and credit card and PayPal before so I doubt that's the reason you're not seeing it. This time I had no payment method configured and added PayPal as a method for the first 3 months. Then it was already there fit the other 11 purchases.

      • I can't seem to find an option to disable reoccuring payments anywhere, even using the "help" it just says to go to billing and disable it or cancel the subscription, but it doesn't show at all.

And I don't want to pay for a month at $10.95 to then enable and disable it.

        • If you followed the instructions I posted at the top then it should allow you to edit the billing options, including turning off recurring payments which is definitely required for the hack to work. The only reason I can think of it not working is browser-related. Can you try another browser or computer? I'm not sure if a phone works all that well, there's been mixed results in the comments.

Also, a lot of people say you don't need to do the final step of logging out and closing your browser before going in for another round. TBH, I didn't try this myself, I always logged out and closed. YMMV

        • I should also ask, have you upgraded to Game Pass Ultimate yet? If you've gone that step already then it's not available.

          • @Chazzozz: No that I'm aware of, the last time I "paid" for a live account was back in 2014, then I used pre-paid codes for 6 months earlier this year.
I'm pretty certain I didn't have a recurring payments selected back then, but I seem to find a way of checking without signing up for a month at the normal price.

My issue is that it doesn't appear to show me the reduced price 3 month option at all, if it did then I'd happily buy them and then disable the recurring payment option.

I've tried on 2 different PCs and my phone in 3 different browsers, private and non private windows too.

            • @geordiekrispy: Ah, is your subscription expired now? If that's the case then I honestly don't know if it will work. When I did it I still had nearly a year left of active subscription.

              • @Chazzozz: @Chazzozz I had an expired subscription and it worked for me.

  • I just cannot figure out how to make this work. Time's a tickin'

  • Can't get this deal either. But I haven't had XBL for ages, and have an active Game Pass for PC, so I don't see a Extend button but a Join button.

I tried disabling the recurring payment for my PC Game Pass but still no dice. Oh well.

  • +1

Thanks mate, got another 6 months for the young fella's birthday, followed instructions at top in incognito in chrome, had about a week left on current subscription

    • Yep. I doubt you'll get Gold at this price again, anytime soon. So I topped up 3 years, just to get it out of the way.

  • LOL - I reckon this deal should get a badge for the slowest crawl upwards ever. ;-)

  • The offer is targeted (the lower price only shows when I log in) and it says (just below the price) that this deal expires on the 9th of July 2022!!!

Well, it actually says 7/9/2022, but they often write the month before the day, so I assumed it's 9th of July instead of 7th of September.

Either way, 2022 is a couple of years away, so everyone who can take advantage of this deal will have plenty of time to claim it.

For those who can't - I'd be contacting Microsoft why some people in the same situation as you get this offer, but you don't.

    • I believe the expiry below the price refers to your XBL subscription; I assume you stocked up on 3 years worth on the 7th this month to get game pass ultimate. And yeah I reckon this is targeted, I've tried for like 2 weeks to no avail. CBF anymore and will just pay $160 for 2 more years then upgrade to Ultimate. It's still a good deal at $242 for 38 months, just not as good

      • Man that's got to suck, not being able to use a deal others can.

As for me, yes, I stocked up for 35 or 36 months.

What you said there makes sense.

      • +1

Have you tried this one? $2 for 2 months of Ultimate https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/486026 unfortunately it is also a targeted offer.

        • +1

Thanks for sharing, yup that's exactly what I plan to do.

I already have 1 year of XBL, so I'm gonna get 2 more years then pay the $2 to upgrade to Ultimate, and get 2 months extra, so I get 38 months of Ultimate.

No idea why I get offered that offer but not this XBL one

  • +1

I cannot believe that this ended up working for my account. Thanks OP!

    • +1

      Right?

I went from a few weeks to 36 months for about half the normal price!

I think this is a highly underrated deal on OzBargain.

I would have expected a lot more upvotes for xbox live ultimate gold/ultimate at around half the usual price.

Ps. Some people were able to get it cheaper though, from another deal, but I forgot which one.

  • Have tried everything here to make this work and can't need another 21 months if anyone is willing to gift that can get it, maybe easier, willing to give you a little extra for your troubles if required.

    • Tried the gifting thing and price changes to normal, could be just me though

      • Thanks for letting me know, I doubt it's just you but then again only some people seem to be able to replicate this price so who knows.

If anyone else can see if they can gift I am still interested, otherwise, anyone knows the next cheapest price?

I remember the days where I would pay $45-$55 for 12 months consistently, seems pricing is all $70-$80 mark.

Also if I understand the Game Pass trick correctly at the momement it's a 1-1 conversion? I recall reading when it launched that the conversion rate was less?

        • Ps. I was able to use this method to top up from a few weeks to 3 years.

It is a 1:1 conversion atm.

Hope you get the next best deal, but I've been checking over the last few weeks, and they're firmly at the $70+ range.

There was another deal on OzBargain gold or ultimate for $5 or something.

I think it's still on, maybe you can look for that one.

  • Is this offer still available?

The link seems to take you to the Xbox homepage.

    • I don't know because I've gone through the process of upgrading to Game Pass Ultimate, so it's not available to me. If someone wants to try it the direct URL is https://www.xbox.com/en-au/live/gold?xr=shellnav. I only created the deal with a link to the front page because you have to log in anyway.

      • I can't test it either, because I maxed out my xbox live gold to 34 or 35 months using this deal.

Then converting it all to Ultimate by using the $2/2 months Ultimate deal (now its $1/1 month).

Thanks anyway, maybe someone else can check if it's still available or if it's been patched.

  • There was talk earlier that this might only work if you had 3+ months left. Well I bought another 3 months (at the $29.95 price) and turned off auto billing and refreshed but it is still showing at the full price for 3 months.

  • Still working now. But targeted. I also got it to display 1st on console - also had active Gold, but via cdkeys.

  • Still working for me. I topped up my Xbox Live Gold to full 36 months yesterday and upgraded to Ultimate for $1.

FYI, it is definitely targeted. I didn't get the offer when this deal was first posted. I had 1 month Xbox Live Gold.

My Xbox Live Gold expired on 14 Oct and got targeted with the offer about 10 days after.

  • Unsure why this is marked as expired as it definitely still works. Step 4 needs to close the tab and open a second time to switch from $29.99 to $10.95 but it's consistent and working.

    • I've tried to remove the end date a couple of times but someone always puts it back in. Looks like I can't remove it anymore. :(

  • What a great post thanks.
I managed to do it 7 times today before I started getting paypal instant refunds everytime the transaction went through.
This could possibly be because you can't extend your xbox live more than 24 months into the future?
Also; I didn't logout each time, just refreshed the page.

    • Yes, there is a cap as to how far you can go. I've heard of some people managing to get up to 36 months in total, but if you already had some time left that would probably be a consideration.

I'm glad you were able to do it. I'm pleased this deal is still going on.

      • Got a couple more in today 👍
Looks like it was just a daily limit.

  • Worked perfectly, thanks OP! Grabbed 12 months for $43.80 24 months for $87.60, now to switch to Gamepass Ultimate :D

    • Do you just follow the steps in OP post?

      • Yep! Added 3 months game pass ultimate for $1 which converted it all

        $88.60 for 27 months = $3.28/month

  • I just did this until I got to 3 years worth Xbox live Gold for $120 and then upgraded that to Ultimate for just $1,lmao.

I did the math just then, and I honestly saved almost $700!! that's crazy!

Holy shit man, Microsoft might come after me for this lol. Thanks so much OP.
