[VIC] Voucher Worth up to $30 if Delivery Takes over 30 Minutes @ DoorDash (Melbourne)

180

This is my first post so apologies if i do something wrong.

So DoorDash launched its app in Australia this past week i believe and so far i think it's just Melbourne that they've launched but obviously they will expand in time.

For their launch window they are doing some promotions:

  • The big one which i listed in the title works as described as far as i know. You order, if the delivery takes more than 30 minutes, the link on doordash's website states that you will get sent a voucher in your email worth $30 within 5-7 business days.
There is a list inside the app of restaurant's that work with this offer (it's not all of them). Each restaurant has an estimated time of arrival when you're ordering so i simply waited until one of them was showing 45 minutes and ordered lol. It actually did take all of that time so supposedly i will get my voucher within the timeframe they give.

  • The other promotion for their launch is that during 30 days they are waving all delivery fees so that's really nice.

  • Finally, they have a referral system that both the referer and referee get $15 of credit when the referee orders over $15 (the $15 off is applied on this first order for the new user). Given that it's a new app here in Australia, none of my friends have it of course so it's pretty easy to get credits atm. I ordered lunch for free and then dinner for free again to try and get the $30 voucher. Doordash is a big company in the US and a serious competitor to Uber Eats there so i'm assuming they will follow through and i will get the voucher no problems.

Full terms and conditions of offer:
"Promotion available between 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM AEST during the period of September 4, 2019 to September 18, 2019, and only within Melbourne city limits. Available only from eligible participating merchant locations, as displayed in the '30 or 30 Carousel' when you log in. Offer not available during events outside the control of DoorDash which may impact the ability of Dashers to safely deliver the order within 30 minutes (for example, inclement weather, road closures).

Dashers will use reasonable efforts to ensure that your order is delivered within thirty minutes (with the time starting from when the customer’s order is processed, as set out in the DoorDash confirmation email, and time of delivery as determined by DoorDash’s systems). Delivery will be deemed to have been completed at the delivery location’s first entry point (for example, security desk, reception, etc.).

If an eligible order is not delivered within thirty minutes, you will receive via email a click-to-apply voucher code within 5-7 business days of the order, redeemable through doordash.com for the lesser of the order value (exclusive of tax) or $30. No more than $90 in total voucher value will be issued to any individual customer during the promotion. The voucher code is valid for one use only and will be valid for 7 days from issuance. Voucher is not transferable or redeemable for cash. DoorDash may refuse to issue or honour vouchers where it reasonably suspects that the customer has acted in a fraudulent manner.

Terms of the promotion are subject to change without notice. Please direct all questions to [email protected]."

$30 Voucher if Delivery Takes over 30 Minutes

    Title is misleading
T&C's say it is the value of your order, 'up to' $30, not a $30 voucher.

    • Thanks, i changed it to try and make it better, although that distinction sounds a bit meaningless to my non-native english speaker ears? Worth up to or literally a $30 voucher… in the end you are getting a $30 discount if you're ordering $30 of food in the app anyway is how i read it. I might be missing something. Regardless of that apparently this belongs to the forums anyway.

  • +3

    This belongs in the forums.

    • -3

      agree… it's not really a bargain.

      • -1

        Agreed!

        • -3

          I agree with you agreeing.

          • @jv: Can't argue with you there!

  • +4

Can confirm this works. My order took 36 minutes to arrive and I got this email

    • +2

That's awesome! I will for sure order several times to get my $90 max worth of vouchers lol. Its pretty easy for a delivery to go over 30 minutes.

      • +1

Definitely, I picked a place that had a 30 minute estimate and didn't think I'd actually get the $30 lol

    • +2

Was your order over or under $30?

      • +1

Under, I paid $14 in total for a burger + potato gems.

    • +1

How long after your delivery did it take to get your $30 voucher/code?

    • +1

How long does it take to get the email?
      I ordered 7pm yesterday, arrived at 8pm.

Havent received anything regarding 30 or 30

      • Took 32 hours for the first one and the 2nd voucher I received yesterday took 12 hours.

  • This service is sooo popular in Silicon Valley. When I went over there for training and induction for my company in February, we had doordash for lunch everyday. We didn't have it Australia, but I vaguely remembered watching a youtube video about it, so I sort of knew what it was. Anyway, here is that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQOC-qy-GDY

Yeah i was reading about it and DoorDash is crazy popular in the states. Should prove to be some serious competition here in Australia. I love it when an underdog company needs to offer all these incentives to break into a new market, these promotions are great.

    • +6

Probably work better in the States because of the low minimum wage and much more people willing to work for next to nothing

Can anybody report if their delivery drivers/riders are less grubby looking than that of ubereats?

    • +2

      Does that matter?

      • -2

Yes, it does to many people

      • -4

Does the cleanliness and hygiene of a person handling my food matter?
What a ridiculous question. Of course it does.

        • +3

Your food is wrapped up (by the restaurant) in plastic/cardboard and then inside of a brown paper bag (which is stapled shut). The driver barely even comes into contact with anything.

It isn't like the guy is handing you raw salmon to eat.

    • +2

Both of mine looked clean and not grubby

      • +3

Same here. What a weird question.

    • +1

Sounds like an attempt to make a racist comment without appearing to be overtly racist; i.e. just categorise brown skin people as "grubby".

  • Does anyone happen to know what commission they charge businesses compared to their rivals?

  • +1

Not available in my area yet

    • Not available in Highett 3190 yet.

      • +1

Yeah it seems like they are in Melbourne but very limited locations for now. My friend in Footscray couldn't order yet too.

In other news i got the $30 voucher on sunday and appropriately ordered so much ramen that it's going to last me days. And that delivery took 35 minutes so i think i'll get another voucher for it? lmao

  • +5

My deliveries with deliveroo and Uber eats are always late. But when I try to get a free voucher with door dash it’s at my door in 25 mins. (profanity)

  • Can any confirm if they have honoured this? My order tonight is looking like it will be overs

    • +1

Yes they did. I got my voucher the next day (on a sunday no less so the within 5-7 business days” was quite pessimistic) and ordered $40 dollars of ramen for $10 bucks.

That order took 38 minutes and it got me another voucher the next day too. Havent used it yet. Lol

Edit: the receipt for that ramen order https://imgur.com/e0wDNTX

That was so much (profanity) food lol. Those two orders lasted me 4 lunchs because of the large+extra noodles on each. And the order that i pretty much got every addon offered was absolutely (profanity) delicious because of all the extras. Very much recommend it.

  • Haha awesome. Now playing the waiting game

  • What if the expected delivery time is more than 30 mins. Will you still receive the $30?

    • No… The delivery itself needs to take more than 30 minutes.

      • Ok, so when I ordered, it said 32 to 40 minutes. I'm the end, it took 38 minutes.

Assume that qualifies? It's been 30 hours and I have received anything. :(

        • +1

The promotion states that you will get an email within 7 business days with the voucher. Gotta wait that long to complain i guess even though for me and some others it was faster.

  • Ordered Friday (13/9), took longer than 30 minutes and just got my email today (18/9). The URL they send you actually adds a promo code to your account, it's 1MELxxxxx where xxxxx is a number that looks like a date. I wonder if it's generic.

    • ahhh yes, dont bother tring it, i called today and they said it was a promotion that ended on the 9th of october and it was a glitch that i got the email - my code was -1MEL101*-
