Personal/Portables Contents Insurance

Looking at insurance options for my personal/portable gear. I’m renting currently with my partner and we don’t own a whole heap of “home contents”.

However I do want something to cover phones, cameras, watches sunglasses and jewellery on the go as these are daily items at most risk of loss or damage.

I’m currently on CBA personal contents which is $245/yr
$100 excess
$1000 item claim limit (works for us)
$2000 total claim limit (works for us)
Positives:
- Covers you up to 30 days internationally (not a huge plus as I’d take a seperate policy when travelling anyway)
Negatives:
-Don’t cover phones in the normal package (used to be when I first had the policy)

I think I can do better, $250 is a decent amount to not include mobiles phones.

What’s everyone else using? Any suggestions?

Seems like a waste of money to me. Are you constantly breaking your camera?

Is this even worth it, total claim with excess is $1900 minus $245, basically the items in questions are depreciating, and saving $245 you can put towards new stuff which is replaceable. So the 1st year its $1655 possible return, and 2nd year is $1410, 3rd year $1165, and thats not including the depreciating value of the items in question.

Doesn't seem worth it to me unless you are absolutely sure you will need it.

  • Not sure if serious or not.

  • Coles give you an extra flybuys point per dollar spent and they sent me a bonus offer of 5,000 points for getting a quote (arrived within a few days) Thats if I take out the contents insurance

what for, waste of money fam

  • Yeah agreed 250 is not worth it anymore. It was costing me $100/yr until a couple years ago when they bumped it and I haven’t bothered to change it since.

    Appreciate the input

    Hi,

Until recently Trov was an option, but since August they have bailed.

This leaves Chubb/Covertec that might cover some of your items, but only if they are newish. It probably costs more (and covers less) than your existing policy.
