Help me spec a new PC build

Hi Everyone,

Currently putting together a build for a new PC and need some advice.

One of the main uses will be for my Son to record (OBS) fortnite gameplay, and then edit footage into Videos for YouTube etc.

Currently have a i5 4xxx cpu and R9 270x which can’t handle this and the video quality when he tries to do this is very poor.

Spec i’m Looking at:

Ryzen 7 3700x
5700 XT GPU
16 GB RAM

The reason I’m looking at the Ryzen 7 CPU is due to the video editing requirement, and I’d rather spend a little more now to future proof, but my question is am I over-speccing for what we need?

Any guidance or opinion is appreciated

Thanks

Personally I'd go for a R5 3600 and spend more on the GPU. It is good enough for OBS and livestreaming and having a better GPU will allow for better framerates + video editors are GPU accelerated with CUDA these days. A CPU video render is going to be pretty slow vs CUDA or Intel Quicksync.

As much as I disapprove of the low end motherboards and RAM in techfast PCs ^ that deal above that oscargamer posted is decent and you should consider it.

  • Alot of streamers use 2 pcs, one for the gaming aspect, and one for the streaming/obs. If you want 1 pc to do both, you will need more ram, have a look at twitch streamers profiles, and look at their rigs, they usually list the specs on their bio.

  • Thanks for the information and insight. I’ve taken it on board and will go with a Ryzen 5 3600 build - am seriously considering the techfast build but once I upgrade to b450 Mobo and 3200mhz ram i can get for the same price from somewhere local and pick it up on the weekend. Decisions!
