Internet garage door opener

I'm looking for a garage door opener that will wire up to my roller door motor (I've identified the pins I need to wire up to). Requirements are:

  • IP/internet enabled and has an Android app that I can tap to toggle open or closing the door just like having the remote.
  • Obviously it needs to be secure being internet facing.
  • I don't want Bluetooth because the range isn't enough for my situation.
  • I don't need any other fancy features like email alerts, door sensors or auto opening based on my GPS position but happy if they are there.
  • No ongoing subscription, just a one off purchase.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

  • If you have z wave automation, plug this into your controller.

Can program it to open the door when you approaching house. :)

  • I use the SONOFF Pro R2 hardware with the eWelink software. I find it works well.

    • I used the SONOFF inching module but I see that it has a new version without micro USB power, which is a shame.

The inching module is perfect for my application. The app eWelink can also linked to Google Home

    GoGoGate 2.

    My Winter 2020 project.

If you're going with this option and have it installed, let me know. Most interested in checking open/close status when I'm travelling and IFTTT to CCTV (Ubiqiti G3 to be exact).

    • the gogogate2 is now obsolete - the new one is called ismartgate. works the same

  • I use OpenGarage, a bit fiddly to set up but I found it the cheapest when i was looking a few years ago.

  • You can make your own in about 30 mins with a raspberry pi and a relay.

    • I did, but it kept blowing, also I wanted it a bit more fancy with an app.

  • I use "garadget" - it's really fantastic. Does everything you listed.

  • Have a look at this thread on Whingepool.

  • Get a cheap $4 ESP8266, wire it up and your good to go.

    • Hang on there. What how? More info please.

      • Create an app that sends a signal to the ESP that triggers the assigned pin. Depending on the garage opener, you can wire it directly or use a relay attached to the ESP.

        • Any chance you can point me to a guide or tutorial video?

    • It's been unpublished. What was the deal?

      • Some automated garage controller selling in amazon.

There is a youtube video am sure. I watched it a few days ago. Will try to find it.

But its quite simple.. you already have done the hard part identifying the pins you need to wire up… solder the wire on those pins and insert the wires into this unit.

I think you need to press one of the two buttons (i think the inside one) for 4-5 seconds to get the led blinking and then you can connect the system to your internet through the eWelink app.
