Brand New BMW X5 Requires The Fuel Tank to Be Replaced

A brand new BMW X5 came with a defect which requires the whole fuel tank to be replaced. The owner got to know about it in within 2 weeks of car delivery. Apparently the car had this issue during delivery. What options does the owner has? The fuel tank needs to be procured from Germany and will take 2-3 weeks.

Hi, what do you mean "the car had this issue during delivery"? So you knew about it at the time of pick up? I would have refused to accept the car if it had a fault, and this sounds like a decent/significant fault for a brand new luxury car easily in excess of $100k

What options does the owner have about what? Tank will be replaced under warranty. Are you asking about hire car?

I thought all BMW X5's were defective? Seriously those things shouldn't be allowed on the roads.

Speak to the dealer - not to a group of people who reckon a new X5 is a complete waste of money.

Sounds as if the blinker fluid may have been put into the fuel system by mistake. This appears to be a common problem with BMWs and is the primary cause of indicator failure with their vehicles.

What options does the owner has?

Get the fault repaid under warranty.

Can they drive the car still? If so, they have no option but to wait for the part to arrive.

If they can't drive it, then they can ask for a 'loan' car.

This one is very easy… get the dealer to replace the tank under warranty?

Answered your own question there. Fuel tank will be replaced in 2-3 weeks.

This. Wait and it will be repaired.

Either that or go to head of service department and tell them you've started an Ozbargain forum post so, "THEY BETTER BE READY <tm>"

Find an online forum and ask this question. Hopefully the website members can rise in support of the car owner and storm the dealership to demand satisfaction, maybe even compensation in the form of goats.

I heard bargain shopping shopping sites are a good place to find such mobs.. You better do a post to get a recommendation for this kind of site.

That’s what happens when you buy an expensive luxury SUV that’s built in the USA

At a guess, I'd say the fuel tank will be replaced under warranty. The options are:
    A) get the fuel tank replaced under warranty
B)get the fuel tank replaced under warranty, then sue BMW for the stress and anxiety that's been caused
C)throw a hissy fit, and don't get the fuel tank reppaced

Oh no! Not the fuel tank!

Have you tried demanding compensation? I would ask for compensation. You need to chase up compensation. Have you talked to a lawyer about possible compensation? Ring fair trading and tell them you want compensation. You deserve compensation. I wouldn’t accept anything less than compensation.

Plot twist, the fuel tank is ok, they are actually replacing the rest of the car around it…

Fuel tank will be replaced under warranty
Owner of the car will get a replacement while it’s being repaired.
    He/she can’t demand a new car or a refund if that’s what you’re asking.
    What exactly is your point/question??

Welcome to European car ownership, check your exaggerated sense of wealth to the left, and wallet to the right.

Get a courtesy car while its waiting to be fixed. This doesn't seem like a difficult problem to be honest.
