Can you suggest a smartphone for a maniac?

Finally come to the realisation that I need to switch back to iOS. Here are the few reasons

  1. the underperforming Exynos chipset from Samsung.
  2. idle time battery drain is a huge downer for me.
  3. concerned a bit about privacy.
  4. Android phone atrocious resell value.

Let skip all these and get to the point. For the last few years, I've been tossing up between iOS and Android. I like to upgrade my phone every year idk why but it's like an addiction being a tech enthusiast. Today I've sold my iPhone 7 and Samsung S9 Plus in order to accumulate amount for a decent phone which I'll be holding for a while. My budget is around $750 and I need your help to decide on something that I would enjoy and have good resell value. My research has lead to following

iPhone X from eBay will easily cost me around 750-850 for a used phone. Thought about XR too which was around the similar price tag.
Going back to bezel iPhone 8 or 8 Plus has limited future.
thought about going back to Pixel 3 but as I heard about the laggy performance due to 4gb ram, didn't want to invest as I'm a heavy user.
Only if it was possible to buy snapdragon chipset Samsung I would have considered.

Please help me out here as I've been sleepless for days trying to figure out a phone without a phone. If you feel there is an android flagship with a promising future, I'm listening too.

endnote: The the smartphones that I've used in the past consist Nexus, S3, iPhone 4s, Motorola Moto X, G, iPhone 5s, Note 5, iPhone SE, S6, iPhone 7, OnePlus 5, S7 Edge, S9 Plus

sounds like you have a deep-seated restlessness that likely stems from a need to distract yourself from more significant concerns and continue a futile cycle of subconsciously trying to purchase bandaid solutions to your actual problems that you have been avoiding for years

    probably the iphone xr then

iPhone 11 seems cheap enough. It's got the low power CPU mode and all sorts of cool stuff, and the cameras are capable even though it doesn't have all three of them from the Pro. The presentation showed a 4K video recorded of cars racing on white flat ground with the sun blazing and the videos looked great. On an iPhone X the video would be unusable.

A brand new iPhone 8 from Apple will set you back less than $800, and you will have a guaranteed 2 year warranty.

"I like to upgrade my phone every year idk why …"

Thank you for your contribution to global warming.

    • China warming you mean

All phones will have garbage resale values as long as idiots keep rushing to buy the latest and greatest year after year. Why build a phone to last when it will be replaced in 12 months?

    • Majority of iPhone users do not replace their phones on an annual basis; from 2018 to 2019 it increased from three years on average to four.

You can blame the garbage resale value of Androids on their terrible post-sale support, bruv.

When all these whiny Android brats lament on iPhones slowing sales in current years, it's actually because of the exceeding value Apple provides their customers after the sale. The phone still gets updates. It still performs exceptionally well, even after four years of usage.

      • Maybe tell that to OP?

I like to upgrade my phone every year
the smartphones that I've used in the past consist (…) iPhone SE, S6, iPhone 7,

Tell them what, exactly? That the majority of iPhone users hold onto their phones for three or four years?

Are you trying to tell me I'm wrong because we have anecdotal evidence via the OP that iPhone users don't hold onto their phones for a few years?

          Roido.

@ThithLord: LOL I love the downvotes from Android sheep. No reply, no rebuttal, str8 up downvote.

  • I think you should up your budget a little and buy a new iPhone X for $1079 (cheaper through discounted gift cards):

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/apple-iphone-x-64gb-space…

Or buy the newly announced iPhone 11 which is $1199.

Both these choices will give you a 2 year warranty. I am still using an iPhone X - it is a very good phone.

Buying used iPhones is a bit too risky for my taste but it’s up to you!

    • And I've thought about getting that, where would I find these discounted gift cards?

It seems you have again entered into a race to acquire an asset that is bound to depreciate and won't ever correspond with a list of features that is constantly increasing.

  • I amount of argument in here is outrageous, the exact reason I wanted to ask was to make an informed decision. I'm being voted for being depressed and causing global warming. Do you guys ever try to push back and see the big picture, the overall observation? Yes, I'm not perfect and I do have a problem in my life. But now I've had enough with the smartphone freaking new features and cameras. I want to get a phone and hibernate for the next few years. That's why I was trying to run back to iPhones which have a very stable cycle.

    • lol what. your original post seemed pretty self-aware and humourous about the blatant consumerism in your question.
now it seems your feelings are hurt and youre claiming you didnt just sell 2 perfectly good phones to buy another with the intention of selling it again whenever you get bored of it.

      did we misinterpret?
was this a genuine cry for help?
are these the ravings of an actual maniac?

Do you guys ever try to push back and see the big picture, the overall observation?

I've been sleepless for days trying to figure out a phone

      • Yes, I'm trying to find a phone which is idle for me. No one is crying, just asking for a suggestion as I have few in my list. No phones are perfect (if it was up to me i would have a modular phone) but my phones were dreadful with battery life and performance. I don't get bored I hate the deteriorating experiences. I don't know why you have to be such a pain in the ass when you can just ignore. People are not wired in the same way as you are, and I would hate to be in a world where everyone would enjoy and follow your remarks and critics.

        • no my point was that your first post seemed to be funny. maniac is a funny word. then we made jokes about it to also be funny. now you are sad and make it seem that maybe the first post wasnt supposed to be funny or you dont like others joining in your jokes.

i dont know why you have to be so sad about choosing a phone when you can just ignore or enjoy consumerism. i would hate to be in a world where everyone is as sad about choosing a phone as you now seem to be and dont let others join in their jokes.

          • @crentist: I'm sorry, it was supposed to be funny. I don't mind having one or two banter. I'm a bit annoyed by the carriers as they are hyping their prices for a phone plan. And the people are placing and bidding a ridiculous amount of prices for an old iPhone.

            • @[Deactivated]: no problem. phones are kinda stressful anyway. i think they are designed to be, so we think we need to keep buying new ones.

but i think phones are way overpriced these days and dont offer much new in the last few years. theyre all kinda the same, so there needs to be a very good reason to spend a lot
id get something like the xiaomi 9t pro. flagship specs, cheap enough not to think about the cost or resale or care if it breaks. just use it until its useless

personally i like small phones though, so until another one comes out im gonna stick with iphone se. battery sucks, camera is okay, features are ordinary. but i dont think new phones do anything i cant do with this one, they are just packaged slightly differently.

when i used look at phones in stores, id get a bit anxious and think i need to work out which one is the best and it becomes a hard decision. like you are going through.
but now, i still kinda get that anxiousness but think its a hard decision because they are all the same. so it doesnt matter, and i leave

you are stressing out about this decision. but is it because its an important decision, or because all choices are basically the same?
if you can start thinking they are all the same, you don't need to stress about it because theres no wrong choice, and nothing new will be appealing because its all the same crap, just with smaller bezels

  • iPhone 11Pro 512gb

  • I am using a $50 SE off gumtree for now. If it had a better camera and more GB i wouldn't bother, have a 11 pro 256gb coming.

    • $50? damn
i paid 250 a few months ago. got that 128gb though. space enough for another year or two probably

      • mine is only 32gb but like new, 97% battery health. have someone ready to buy it for $250
