Sony 65" X9500G or A8G?

Hi guys,

I've got a Sony TV which broke and I am offered a trade-in, I'm torn between the X9500G or A8G both at 65", I know this is not an apple to apple comparision but would like some opinion.

A8G is an oled with the deep blacks looking so beautiful and that's why I am very tempted. However it still uses the X1 Extreme processor which I don't know if still lags with the Android TV system? My previous TV was X9300D and lags so much, whereas the X9500G is using the X1 Ultimate chip, unsure if any better.

Is it worth it to go for the beautiful picture quality of the oled being $1500 extra and slower chip?

if you watch TV with light on, go for x9500g, light off, A8g

  • Honestly, the inbuilt smart functions are the last factor to help me decide.

    Look at some reviews.

X9500G is Sony's best LED on the market, but it is still an LED.
LED will never match the deep blacks of Oled. But then, it does give a brighter image that is easier to see in the day time. What is best for you is up to you, but if it was my choice, in my room, with my curtains, I'd go OLED.

Note, I have the X9300E, which is a discontinued line. Despite not having a direct backlight it is still considered better than the X9500G (which is the successor of the X9000 series. I'm happy with it, but my next will be OLED.

  • If you have a budget for your entire system, the X9500G is worth considering. At $1,500 difference, you could buy a decent 5.1, perhaps even an amp to go with it.

If you already have fantastic sound, the room is acoustically padded and you already have a nice comfy chair, the OLED is a more meaningful upgrade. You'll never be left with that dastardly itch - upgraditis.

      upgraditis

Yes you could, once you start looking at 75", 80" etc ;)

No matter how well you keep your house clean, shampoo daily and wash all your soiled clothing outdoor, somehow the upgraditis carrying lice finds its way in…

  • OLED is not bright enough for HDR. Also Android TV smoothness has more to do with the version and has pretty much resolved the sluggishness last TV generation. So the 'F' or the 'G' will be fine either way you go. Personally I would use that extra $1500 and buy a larger TV.

    • Thanks for the reply guys, definitely leaning towards saving my $1500 at the moment. Only watch in lit room, I have a separate dark room for a projector.

Wish I could get a larger tv but don't have the space. In saying that there is a display model A9F for $4099 at JB around me, is that good deal?

      • For a demo, no especially because it's OLED. That was price obtainable brand new half a year back. If your heart is set on the model then I would haggle down to low $3k at the minimum. Though for the price level I would rather wait for the A9G.
