Ryzen 2600 Motherboard Help

Hi all

I picked up the Techfast deal on the Ryzen 2600 + RTX 2080 last year and have been super happy with it so far.

I am about to move into a new apartment with no viable way of setting up an ethernet connection to my rig, so I've (already) invested in a high performance wi-fi PCIE chip and router.

UNFORTUNATELY, it seems that the Galax RTX 2080 is so bloody chunky that it completely covers all the other available PCIE lanes, such that my Asus AC88 is gathering dust.

Question: could someone please recommend me a budget Ryzen 2600 motherboard that can comfortably fit the following components:

  • GALAX RTX 2080 EX 1 click OC
  • Asus PCE AC88 wifi chip
  • Ryzen 5 2600 compatible.
  • Leaper pro micro-ATX case

Cheers

Edit: current mobo is an ASUS A320M-A

  • Probably cheaper to buy a USB wireless card, Or worst case…..Can you get Powerline adapters

I'd just look for a Mobo with 2 PCIE x 1 slots on it. Use the bottom one.

  • I think you've just run into a form factor problem, Micro ATX motherboards are shorter than full ATX ones so if you have a chonky cooler design that takes up to 3 slots you will inevitably end up blocking the PCIE port directly below. Depending on the board layout you may or may not have a 3rd slot that's spaced far enough away from the GPU.

So you'll need a new full atx motherboard, but possibly even a new case if said motherboard requires a full ATX standard to fit.

You could also just ditch the PCIe network card and go with a USB option, this'll be cheaper than buying a new mobo.

    • Thanks! I think I'm leaning towards a Wifi access point into my PC's ethernet port at this stage.

Provided I can return my AC88 - I bought it off the Sydneytec ebay store for 20% off, but it looks like they incur a "restocking fee" of 20% of the item for all returns. Anyone had any experience with them?

  • what's your current mobo ?

pcie 1x card can plug in to 2nd 16x slot if available

you can get MSI b450m mortar from Computer Alliance ebay 20% off this Thursday for $127

the 2nd 16x slot is on 4th bottom slot, so no problem if your 2080 only blocking 3 upper slots.

  • +1

If you're going to buy a new motherboard rather than going the USB route, why not buy one with Wi-Fi included?

    ASRock B450M/AC & Gigabyte B450M DS3H WIFI are AM4 mATX motherboards with included 802.11AC Wi-Fi.

The ASRock board is available via Amazon or NewEgg for around $150. Can't find the Gigabyte one in Oz.

    • he already bought the asus pce88

      b450m/ac newegg $200 after shipping

      • he already bought the asus pce88

That he did. I was just giving a different option to consider.

        • Thanks all! Unfortunately phunkydudes correct, I've bought the AC88 already from the Sydneytec ebay store at 20%. Looks like they charge a 20% "restocking fee" on refunds which is unfortunate.

I just ordered a $5 PCIE extender from ebay, so if that doesn't work I'll reassess. Not hopeful as its a pretty damn tight squeeze currently.

Thinking of a Wifi access point? Thoughts on speed / stability for someone who downloads lots and does light gaming?

  • ASrock Pro4 mATX models have a PCIe 1x above the 16x slot, I'm sure there are others.

  • Just get a pcie extension for the wifi, then you could pop it wherever theres a free expansion slot
