I use the kmart mixer. Does what its supposed to, and that too perfectly for only $69

No smart man would bring home a Kmart mixer to his wife. That's the first step to a bad day and no baked rewards.

Glad it works for you, but I'm pretty sure the kitchenaid one has a much powerful motor. Personally, I haven't had much luck with Kmart appliances. Bought a hand mixer for $25, motor burnt out in one use.

It may well do the job, and I'm glad it works for you, but I guarantee that you would notice a massive difference and would probably never go back. It's one of those things where you wonder where it's been all your life, if you use the handmixer more than once or twice in its entire lifetime.
I'm not referring to just this brand, but Kenwood etc as well.
And it encourages you to try and bake more as it makes it so much easier.

Once you go black you don't go back

      • This. Also, kneading dough killed our old Breville mixer, so now we have a Kitchenaid and it's great.

        • Do you remember which model your Breville mixer was?

  • There are a few comments on forums that the attachments don't reach the sides of the bowl, how is this relevant.

    • +1

Isn't that what the silicone scraper mixer is for?

    • I'm guessing if there are clumps of unmixed flour on the sides stuck and the whisk part doesn't reach the sides, they won't be blended evenly.

    • My partner makes cakes for a living. The kitchenaid she had was not great at scraping the sides of the bowl which meant she had to always be stopping it to scrap mixture from the sides manually for it to mix properly. She has a kenwood now, which seems to work a lot better for this.

      • Thats highly inconvenient.. Was it this model?

        • +1

I'm not sure if it was this exact model as she sold it a while back but it was definietly one of the higher end models. She got a third party silicon scraper (hers didn't come with one and it doesn't look like this one does either) which did a better job at scraping the sides. But yes, really inconvinient if you are making cakes. I can't speak to other areas of use for a stand mixer, but if its mainly for baking it seems the kenwood is a much better option.

          • @tlo001: Thanks for the info :) I was about to get it today but looks like I'll do a bit more research on the model before then.

            • +1

@Bargainbeth: No worries, just thought I'd post about it as I know she was really disappointed with it and at the time the kitchenaid was the most recommended one. Seems crazy to me that it would be so poor at such a simple thing!

    • Unlike in the commercial when you can just set and forget, it means every few minutes, you'll need to stop the mixer, and scrape the bowl.

Wish it was the Artisan, really want one!

    • What;s the diff?

      • Bigger motor (250W vs 300W) so it can can handle bigger and heavier mixes, bigger bowl, more colours, and the Artisan comes with an extra attachment (pouring shield).

        • It may not seem like much but the bowl also has a handle, which is actually very handy.

    • They had one on clearance at MYER Pacific Fair for $400, you might be lucky elsewhere. Too good a deal to walk past!

  • $359 for refurbished one if anyones looking for slightly cheaper https://m.catch.com.au/product/kitchenaid-ksm45-classic-stan…

    • refurb kenwoods are cheaper again (ebay). I wonder how they get so many (they are brand new with rub marks from poor packaging)

Kitchenaid ebay is $359.10 with code POPPER:

    • Wow, oops, thanks! Unsure if returns/warranty issues would be more convenient with Myer/KitchenAid. Might be something for people to consider re the $16 difference.

  • bought an artisan for the mrs 10 years ago and it's still going strong, these last forever. thanks OP bought 1… i mean 1000
