Yeah, I can't quickly think of many another mainstream electronics items that would have such a massive mark up over manufacturing cost.
Agreed. I have a Play 1 in the garage, which I am very happy with, and would have considered buying the Move, but not at that price.
look at headphones even larger mark ups
I found a few simple hacks allowing batteries to be added to a Play:1 many years ago. Just needed an inexpensive buck converter and a few 18650s and the mains PSU could even be retained allowing the best of both worlds. I got the parts and was about to start to hack but then moved house and haven't touched any of my geek gear since due to no workshop space & non-stop renos. The price of these does seem extreme though and I think they've missed the mark. Even up around $500 seems excessive and I thought they would've aimed closer to $350-400ish as that just feels about the right price to me. As a SONOS lover since 2007/8 I know these will be great but $600 is just crazy.
No other Sonos model has Bluetooth though…so you still need to be within your WiFi's reach
The problem I always have is that it’s never charged when I want to use it
To be fair you can get a dock included that charges it, however fully charged it has only 10 hours max use and it's very heavy to use compared to most premium bluetooth speakers
That’s the expensive one to leave it in the park under the tree like we did with UE Boom.
My word these are expensive.
