Amazon pricing error for Ryzen 3600 & Motherboard deal - Will I receive my two items?

I recently purchased a Ryzen 3600 w/ a MPG X570 Gaming Plus Motherboard from Amazon (through MSY) for $289 AUD which was a steal. There was only a few left in stock and I managed to quickly convince my friend to purchase one as well. My friend just received his today and he said he only received the motherboard? I am yet to receive mine.

  • The listing was titled: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core, 12-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor 1
  • All the pictures were of the motherboard (the pictures excluded pictures of the CPU) This is all confusing. What wasn't confusing was the option which I clearly selected-
  • Style Name: CPU w/ MSI motherboard
    I have this screenshotted.

Despite being a listing error, shouldn't I legally be entitled to the product that I ordered & paid for?

I think you can be legally entitled. But not to receive the purchase order. lol

You sort of said it yourself, it was a confusing advert where obviously someone has made an error in the listing by matching the wrong product to the pictures and merging two separate products. All you have out of this is a screenshot of a pricing and advert error. You could probably ask them for a refund based on the confusion regarding the ad.

Why would you be legally entitled to receive two products for the advert that A. only shows 1 and B. is pretty much a price of a motherboard only anyway?

    • It clearly listed CPU w/ motherboard, which is where its confusing. If it only was titled "Ryzen 3600…." with pictures of the motherboard then I would be more apprehensive with the purchase or be more inclined to refund. But since it specifically stated that it was CPU w/ motherboard it makes it different because its not a simple picture or title mismatch.

So there you have the title of the item

You then only have pictures of a motherboard but none of the cpu. Its like me posting a car advert but putting pics of only tyres. You wouldn't really know which one I was selling either.

In the options they have the two items seemingly bundled together. But neither the title or pictures show that these two items are sold as a combination in the whole rest of the advert besides the drop down box. At that point it would be clear its a mistake from the company? you said it yourself too, at the price it was a steal.

a quick google search also shows that many other major pc stores sell the same motherboard at the price of 289

Surely that is a red flag for listing error? which it obviously is

        • so you actually want them to gift you a CPU for free because they made a mistake when posting their product adverts online?

@Collies80: 100% I want them to be accountable for their mistakes, yes haha

@Collies80: A lot of companies have messed up like this so the reason of this post was to gauge the usual response from amazon and to find out an expected outcome. A quick search on ozbargain has found that far bigger stuff-ups have happened before, like the note 8 being sold for $150 or so, like im talking a 80-90% error in pricing. This is only a ~50% saving, and coupled with the fact that this was a bundle, it makes it more feasible that this could have been resolved with them owning up to their mistakes.

Again this is just my opinion as a consumer who wants a bargain lol

            • @jubbly: haha nah I do get why. But I mean if they all had to honour mistakes companies would hire more people to double check work and raise prices anyway. I don't think you're entitled to it in this case. Had the advert listed both products and accurately described them then I would be more inclined.

But this is MSY we're talking about. You can bet your bottom dollar they won't honour it. the % of the error doesn't make it justifiable its still an error. If you got your payslip but they gave you 800 instead of 1000 you wouldn't be happy if they said its only a 20% error so its fine. Probably a bad example but I just don't think you're going to win this one. Google search of the product online shows you many of the same motherboards for the exact same price, you tried your luck and didn't win unfortunately. Just push for a refund and hope they don't only offer you store credit or something

General answer is no, you are entitled to a full refund (as opposed to refund in store credit).

Last time I bought a $130 10 TB drive from AmazonAU due to price error, they refunded the $130 plus gave me a $30 credit voucher. Not sure about the item being from MSY though.

    • Disappointing, thanks for the response

  • Good luck getting anything for free from MSY

  • The answer is: maybe.

  • Just an update for those interested

"this order is motherboard only. if you don't want the item, please open a return case via Amazon, we will process full refund soon"

I responded telling them that I purchased a CPU with motherboard, they responded back:

"That was wrong description on Amazon"

I will now be opting for a full refund inc shipping. Always worth a try I guess.

    • @Jubbly Can you post an update when the refund is settled, I took a punt on this one also. Delivered today, Where's my CPU…… :) I want to gauge how long the refund process will take so I can bill them for interest.

      • Of course; I have not had the chance to post it yet - I will post it on monday and let you know what happens.
