    I wonder if it's targeted?

    My guess is that since it's a Beta, that it wouldn't be targeted at any particular users.

    But I have no idea, I couldn't find anything about this either.

        Windows 10 is required because you have to use the Microsoft AppStore to download games. It doesn't need to be the very latest Windows 10, just Windows 10 will do.

        It might be limited to new account. Even if it is not limited to new account, any account with GamePass Ultimate or active GamePass PC (beta) will most certainly not be eligible for this (i.e. stacking not allowed).

        It's basically a typical Microsoft promotion when a new first party title launched… in this case, Gears 5.

        They've made it so the required Xbox app for PC only works on the latest Windows 10. It sucks. But it was cheap enough to put up with making a new install on a new partition just to play Metro Exodus for basically bugger all. (And next, The Outer Worlds.)

        But yeah, tried as I might, couldn't get it working on the Windows 10 build I preferred to use. Ho hum.

  Make sure you can update to the Win 10 1903 update. The Xbox Game Pass Beta App needs that update. Cant update myself as I get constant errors which unfortunately makes this useless :(

      It's a Beta release, so there could be a bug in this software, rather than your PC.

      Unless you can't update to the latest version, which is a different matter altogether.

    Probably not - giving cheap Ultimate subs and converting your subs to ultimate, means people won't be able to top it up with the cheaper gold subscription, until their subscription ends I guess, then they can choose xbl gold or ultimate.

    It's a marketing strategy to force people to update ultimate subs, instead of buying cheap gold subs just before their gold subscriptions run out.

    Someone else on OzBargain posted an even cheaper deal, but I don't remember what or where it was.

  Does Ultimate or Gold affect PC only users by any chance?

  Or do PC only users only need the standard xbox game pass for pc subscription and nothing else is relevant or applies (unless you have a console of course which I don't in my use case scenario)

  I got the $1 for 1 month Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta) offer and $4.95 introductory monthly offer after that (no idea what it will revert to or what is the normal price for Xbox Game Pass for PC only)

  So yeah is Ultimate or Gold relevant to PC only users?

    Ultimate includes Game Pass for Xbox and PC, I don't think you need Gold for PC.

    I think you get Ultimate or Game Pass for PC, whichever is cheaper at the time.

    Unless you need Gold for PC multiplayer, I don't play on PC, so no idea.

      Ok thanks yeah I think gold and live is not needed for pc players.

      Ultimate is just console and pc game pass put together and doesn't include gold iirc.

      So you only need xbox game pass for pc if you are only a pc player.
