Where to Buy Car Parts (Filters, etc) for Servicing Car

Oil is regularly on special at SCA, Repco, etc, but where is best place to get oil and air filters and those other bits for servicing cars?

  • SCA, Repco or other chain? Ideally during a sale
  • Independent parts shop (recommendations for Brisbane?)
  • Ebay (again any reliable sellers)
  • Dealer (unlikely!)

I usually get my bits from either SCA, Sparesbox or this Toyota dealer off eBay (I have a Toyota Corolla and they have reasonable prices on genuine parts; $200 for a water pump and $88 for brake pads with free shipping)

Same situation than you, I started searching for a an online site where I could easily buy and get delivered all the parts to service my car (oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, cabin filter) and so far for my car this site has it all https://www.sparesbox.com.au/
Oil I buy Castrol oil in promo at Supercheapauto

I found 2-3 other online sites offering servicing car parts but they were either more expensive than sparebox or weren't selling one or 2 parts.

For small minor stuff easy to pick up the Mister sends me to Supercheap.

Slightly different things like multi packs or say maintenance items like brakes other parts we get it from onlineautoparts.com.au as first point of call. They are really good with their service and very similar to sparebox. From experience slightly cheaper on some of the bigger item things with cheaper postage.

If you want a one stop shop Sparebox probably has a wider range and seem larger as a company so they are our second preference after onlineautoparts.

  • Sparesbox are really well priced

    Depends on part.

Some genuine parts are well priced ($9 for a Ford oil filter).

    Oil whenever on special

  • Bursons, sparesbox is great

  • I get my oil from SCA/Repco/Autobarn when they're on sale.

Oil filters I get from sparesbox when they have big sales.

  • REPCO and use someones NRMA card, when not on sale at other places.

  • Sparesbox on eBay when they have their price jacking 20%off sales. But be sure to cross reference their eBay prices with their website prices.

  • Another vote for sparesbox here.

  • Repco is usually my go to place (since it the very close from home, often have the parts in stocks and reasonably price most of the time).

Supercheap/Autobarn/Sparebox if they have parts on special.

I only go to the Ford dealer for certain things. Certain dealers like Jefferson Fords have their own eBay stores, which offer parts at a much more reasonable price, compared to my local dealer.

Burson I find are often a rip off.

  • Depends on the car.

I have European cars so generally buy OEM parts from sparesbox and runautoparts.

Oil- Supercheap/Repco/Autobarn when on sale and then I stock up. I had about 15 x 5L bottles at one stage.. got down to 4, now back to to 8.

  • For oil/filters, generally SCA or Sparesbox will have what you need. Of course, only buy during sale periods.

  • For servicing goods such as oil and filter, Supercheap Auto or Repco are perfectly fine. They have good quality oils (Penrite, Castrol Edge) on sale half price usually once a month or so. Filters cost all of $20. An oil and filter change with Castrol Edge when it’s on sale will probably cost all of $70 with a little bit of oil left over.

If you’re looking at more specialty oils such as synthetic trans fluids or bushings, I’d then look at Sparesbox as well as checking the price at local stores

  • Go for sakura/westfil filters, they are more cheaper than ryco.

      Sakura are rubbish.

  • Thanks for comments, ended up with Sparesbox, was cheaper to do direct than their ebay site for $100+ (free shipping). And of you give them your email address they send a $10 voucher immediately.

$90 for 5L 5w30 oil, air and cabin filters and 2x oil filters.

Oil was on similar special to the SCA one and they are a lot cheaper for parts, which I guess is where SCA make their money.

Ordered the Oil cap remove wrench from Aliexpress - $5, just has to do the job once a year and $26 at SCA.

  • Cheap filters are cheap for a reason.

What vehicle are you running that takes 5W30 oil?

And, what is an Oil cap remover wrench?
