Which Car to Select? Anyone Familiar with VW/Audi/Merces?

Dear all,

I am looking to buy a demo car. Budget below $50K.

Here are all the offers I received so far, all 2018 build date

  1. Passat B8 Comfortline - 3,000KM odometer reading, $38,000
  2. Audi A4 35TFSI - 500KM, 19in Alloy wheel, navigation package, $45,000
  3. Mercedes A200 - 3,000KM, Vision package, Seat package, $50,000 but with three years free service

I am driving a VW car at the moment so naturally Passat is no learning curve. Other than that nothing exciting.

Any comments/suggestions on these options? Thanks!!!

    Learning curve?
If that's really a concern you better stick with VW and maybe just keep it in the garage at all times.

Otherwise which do you enjoy driving and suits your unspecified requirements most? Get that one

Just for curiosity sake, what in common do you like about these three vehicles that leads you to exclude all other options? Not trolling, just genuinely curious.

      • Thanks for the reply. Appreciate your honesty.

  • i think you can get c200 at 60k or less if demo

    • Yeah but that would be over my budget…

$50k?? 2 x Toyota Corollas. Or a Corolla for work and a Camry for weekends… nice. Livin’ the dream…

The A4 is pretty nice to drive though :S

    • lol or maybe buy five of those cheap Chinese cars in five colours and one for each single work day…

      • Nice! But only with matching, day coded number plates to go with them.

Why demo's? Have you had someone quote you on a new model? 2018 demo just seems so…old!

    • Yeah…just I kinda need a car ASAP.

If you’re tied to these brands, try a brand new A3 with a proper 2.0L TFSI for about 45k instead of the A4 which at that price point is a 1.4L version without a very engaging drive.

Audi also offer free servicing and occasionally bump the warranty to 5 years if you mention your employer and they happen to be on the corporate servicing plan - a lot of large organisations are.

      new A3

Nah its the poor mans audi.

    • Thanks will have some thoughts on the A3!

I followed the peer pressure and voted for Audi.

  • Heart would say Merc (depending which engine), head would say A4 and if I was having trouble sleeping then the Passat….

OP listed 3 strange cars to be choosing from - Large (Passat), Medium (A4) and Small (A200)

Really weird to be deciding between 3 cars in completely different size categories. Did you even realise this? Have you seen all of these cars= or just based it on price alone?

    • Yeah just price. I test drove all of them. All suit me well!

Not too worry about size mate!

      • Okay. That's really weird lol. Surely features, size, requirements should come first before price? Who chooses a shortlist of cars purely on price?

For example the A3 is a better comparison to the A4 (and cheaper).

Likewise a spec'd up Golf is in the same category as A3 and A200.

        • Thanks I will have some thoughts on A3 today. Golf maybe not. Sedan only!

You list a few different sizes of car. I would strongly recommend the Golf GTI for the under 50k price you have listed in the post. The size is very similar to the Audi A3 in the hatch and the A200.

In Sept VW were offering the GTI for 46k drive away, no doubt could negotiate that still with the dealers. I've personally driven the latest A class and Golf platform and much prefer the Golf.

    • Thanks for the recommendation!!

There are a few c class on car sales around the 4000km Mark priced at around 54k. Could probably haggle that down.

For 50k and with your preferences:
    2017 Audi S3 (15-20k kms)
    2018 Golf R
    2016 Audi RS3 (45-55k kms)
    2014-2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 (40-60k kms) / 14-16 A45 (35-50k kms)
