See https://www.ais.co.th/travellersim/ for full information and consider buying in Thailand for 299Baht (under $15AUD) to save a few $$
AIS site saya that SIM needs to be activated prior to use -see https://www.ais.co.th/travellersim/images/popup/Eng.jpg

    No deal.
You can get Thai SIM at airport for 299THB ($15) which gives you 8.5 GB
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/71725/73045/whatsapp_i…

Edit: You can get 13GB for 8 days for $15 if you dont want any call credits !

    • having call credits is handy - u can call up a laundry to come and pick up your sex stained clothes and give them a good wash.

      • Most laundry places have whatsapp or FB messenger now anyway.

        • yeah, true.

      • Do you really wear clothes while having sex?

I guess you must also turn off all the lights.

Klook has an 8 day one that you pick up at the airport for $6.39 with unlimited calls/text/data. Not sure why you’d pay over double just to have it beforehand

    • The Klook one is about 3Gb of data before speed drops.

But have ordered one with the Klook driver service in 3 weeks time when we arrive at BKK

Only need enough for maps, via bus app

I have an used sim from last year… said used by 30 June… wonder if it will still work :)

      • Thanks good to know, have it saved as I’m going to Phuket in March so could grab 2 of these or going by previous comments the ones in the convenience stores there are stupidly cheap

    • Klook have a couple, the cheapest you get from their desk in Bangkok airport near the trains, the more expensive you get from the normal sim sales place just after customs. Both cheaper than just turning up an buying, plus you can use the included credit to buy more data if needed after the initial is gone, or add more money if you’ve used that credit already.

  • Just get a SIM at the airport.
Phuket has like 3 shops at the the arrivals exit gate.

  • Not a deal

  • any deals for USA sim tourist?

  • +1

Can confirm not a deal here. See https://www.ais.co.th/travellersim/ for reference. The price is 299thb or ~15AUD. You can buy them at the AIS's suvarnabhumi airport outlet which open 24hrs.

  • Any ideas how to get a good deal for 14 days?

    • +2

Grab the 8 day ones from Klook then when that ends just add a 7 day pack on, you can use the credit on the original sim plus add more at 7/11 if needed. Always found that cheaper than buying the 15 day one at the airport. Extra 4gb for 7 days was like 130 baht or something like that. The Klook card already has 100 baht on it included in the original deal so topup for the extra week is minimal.

      • THANKS! :)

I'll hand in my OZB badge … but I'm okay to pay the AUD3 for the convenience of just stepping off the plan and hitting the ground running (and using it whilst the plane is still on the tramac in BKK) with zero need to line up. So on this occasion I'll pay the convenience price.

At todays rate the 299baht is closer to $16, so it's only a $2 convenience fee.
