    Wish it were the UK version that I am used to.
    Now I will dilly dally until it is sold out, and then will regret not buying.

    A couple of reviews on Amazon say the board is made of plywood and some puzzle pieces do not make a snug fit

    But it's only $16

    But I already have a US version that gets no love

    Maybe I'm asleep and this is a dream

        It has plenty of qualities many see as undesirable in a board game

        1. Overly driven by luck rather than any real skill or strategy. Lots of games use a dice roll but back it up with other decision making which over time adds a skill element, where Monopoly’s decision making is generally very shallow (buy or don’t buy) and really just determined by what you rolled which means the entire games just luck based

        2. Game has empire building elements where by its very difficult after a few rounds for someone who is behind to ever catch up

        3. Despite (2) the game can drag on for hours

        4. People can be eliminated. Many games will have all players there until the end. If you’re having a party or event with friends then Monopoly inevitably creates a situation where some people are in the game while others won’t be

        5. Games result can be determined in just a few rounds, again largely driven by luck. After that it’s a relatively boring process of dragging out the inevitable

        While department stores still largely have monopoly, risk etc on their shelves, board game stores have stacks of modern games released in the past few years that are significantly more fun and provide better variety than Monopoly.

        If you’re after something accessible and pretty good for the family, Ticket to Rides a good place to start. If you’ll have 4 or more players 7 Wonders is a game I very much enjoy also. Our 10 year old enjoys Kingdomino which works with smaller groups.

          Agree. Also, we've decided we don't want to teach undesirable values to our kids. I read that the original creator of Monopoly was trying to teach people how NOT to hoard wealth at the expense of others.

          Like you've said, there are so many other board games out there - even for kids. And don't get me started on the adult games :)

            @Padmanwong: It was intended as a satire of capitalism. If you start off well, you win, if you don’t, you lose.

            That also makes it a particularly bad game.

          Also, nobody plays Monopoly by the rules in the box (i.e. if a player passes on buying the property they landed on, it is immediately auctioned to the highest bidder).

          Ignoring that rule makes the game drag on even longer.

    The gold painted wooden dice is nice. I bbought 2. I see Catch has it for the same price too. This is a good set if you want those retired board pieces. The hell is the iron though, smh.

    I see it in a few other places for over the $100 dollar mark. All wood, 4 stumps a canvas bag and a ball. Not bad price since I see decent sets at Rebel for $60+
