Exetel and Spintel 4G Wireless Broadband price increase

Hi everyone,

I signed up for the Spintel 4G Home Wireless Broadband 250GB 12Mbp/s last month and just saw today that both Exetel and Spintel have substantially increased their prices for their products. These increases have occurred in the last week.

Exetel is now $69/month for their 4G Home Wireless Broadband for the same speed, up from $39.95/month.

Spintel is now $59.95/month for their 4G Home Wireless Broadband for the same speed, up from $39.95/month.

It seems Optus has put up their wholesale price as this a big increase. I suspect this may also affect Optus' 4G Mobile Broadband plans or may be a way to encourage 5G (still very new).

I have been having trouble with my Spintel internet and Exetel users on Whirlpool Forums suggest this is to do with the Netcomm modem they provide (they have stopped providing the Huawei B525).

It's a great NBN alternative but this jump in pricing makes it lose its appeal. Spintel is great as it also allows me to keep my home phone via VOIP, which Optus does not offer on their 4G plans.

Any thoughts?

  • Same price as optus 200gb at $60 then

do you use up the 200gb ?

    • Not yet as I was on prorata. Optus is $65/month and speed is uncapped with 200gb data.

Both Exetel and Spintel are capped at 12Mbps and 250gb data.

      • Guess you're better off with nbn if it's available

        Belong $55 @ 50(30mbps) unlimited

        Or

        ABB $58 @ 25mbps 200gb

        • I preferred not to get NBN due to all the problems I hear about. I don't think there is much choice now.

        • NBN not available until next year.
ADSL has no ports left and I have no idea how long the waitlist is, not to mention it's slow af.
There's too little data in those Home Wireless plans
Outside of Uniti's coverage area (even though on their map it shows it is within)
          I hate this place

  • +1

Why TF is both NBN and wireless going up in price? I'd rather pay less with ADSL. And I get a bonus rock solid reliable landline that I won't use.

Goddamn the genesis of John Howard and his privatization of Telstra leading to all sorts of shit.

    • It's ridiculous but after looking at what Vivid Wireless were offering back then, it's just brought it back to the 2017/2018 prices.

      • Ya think it was a temporary unnaturally low price?

  • Does this affect existing customer such as myself? Next month will be $69 instead of $39.95?

Some alternatives for those stuck on mobile broadband:

    $44.90 per month, 250GB https://yomojo.com.au/wireless/
    $59 per month, 250GB https://moosemobile.com.au/homebroadband

    • I think it affects if you are out of contract. I have 5 months left out of a 6 month contract so I expect to be charged at the new rate in 5 months time.

Moosemobile was also 44.90 per month and they must have increased it this week.

Yomojo has no contracts so I'm sure they will increase their prices to 59/69 a month and everyone will get affected the next billing month.

      • mine expires end of March 2020; better work harder and move into area with better interweb

      $44.90 per month, 250GB https://yomojo.com.au/wireless/

That seems like a decent alternative, assuming their price rise hasn't kicked in. Never heard of them tho.

    • My address isn't covered by Moose nor Yomojo, only SpinTel, and Optus. #feelsbadman.
Can I just insert the SIM card from some other company to the modem and expect them to work?

  • https://www.jeenee.org.au/products/data-sims-2/ - $59.90 for 250GB on a 12 month contract with no speed restrictions…

  • Are there any wireless internet plans with free WiFi modems?

    • Spintel kinda does. But I'll avoid them if I were you.

The service was unusable from the get-go. Was lied to stay connected. Then when I realise it was going nowhere. They forced me to pay for the 2 weeks that I couldn't use the service at all (also tried to charge me early termination fees too!).

Returned the modem maybe 3 weeks ago now? First they claim I didn't return it. Then I provided my tracking code and they admitted they received it. But need a week to process it. A comes and goes, still need another week to process it. Now into the 3rd week. I reach out to the TIO. Their TIO rep tells me to wait another week for them to process it.

      So yeah…

      • Looks like they're charging $100 for a modem which is half what it usually goes for. It wasn't so long ago that wireless ISPs were throwing away modems for free to get you to sign up.

Now prices for both NBN and wireless broadband sucks.

        • Not sure if they're still offering the $99 credit if you sign up for 6 months. But yeah. I'll avoid them.

Regardless, I'll recommend just spending a bit more and buying a decent modem.

Yup. Without healthy competition. Innovation dies, every thing goes down the drain. Shame democracy doesn't work very well. The power is held by a select few who only do things that benefit themselves.

  • Their 500gb plan was trash, there's no speed increase from the 250gb and a lot more inconsistent than the 250gb. When I was using the 250gb the speed is as advertised the quality of the internet was so good there's essentially no jitter.

  • I am on the Exetel wireless plan and had encouraged two others to sign up to it as well. Went to sign up someone else tonight and….oh dear, the price rise. No way. And they will lose all other customers. $30/month price rise - extraordinary.
