Looking for a Laptop for High School under $800

Hello,

My sister needs a laptop for school (year 9) before the end of the holidays (Mon 14 Oct).
Ideally it would be under $800 and have the following specs (or close to):
CPU: Intel Core i5 (8th Gen or newer)
RAM: 8 GB (or more)
Storage: 128 GB SSD (or more)
Display: 12" - 13.5", 1080p
Battery: Decent (i.e. full day of school)

Is this possible?
Any advice appreciated.

Have you looked in the Dell Factory Outlet?

I've pre-selected i5, 8GB, and SSD for you, but it seems that you'll need to spend a little bit more than $800.

  • Hi, Acer generally have some decent units, though this one is only 4GB. See how it performs, however you can upgrade the memory according to crucial. Then re-sell the 4GB module.

This one is 8GB, which includes a stylus pen ($60 to $100) as well as this HP.
Is it year 9 next year, and possibly going to Uni, if so I would look at leasing. It will cost more, but its insured for accidental damage, as a genuine HP screen will cost $700 to replace. Acer screens are a lot cheaper than HP @ $150 to $250, and are serviced in Australia. HP is serviced in Singapore, however warranty repairs are turned around quite quickly.

  • Have you looked into Business laptops like Dell Latitude, HP Probook, Lenovo thinkpad? You may get a good deal with used.

  • I would recommend the Lenovo Think Pads at your price range which covers all your required specs - do some more research on specific ones.

However, if you are able to fork out a bit more money do look into the Microsoft Surface 2 Laptops.

  • Have a look on Gumtree. Sometimes you can find a Dell Latitude maybe a few years old for under $500.

  • Refurbished Mac Air, I doubt your sister would be happy with any of the previous wise and good, but deadly boring, suggestions.
