Uluru/ Ayers Rock Car Rental

Hi,

Can anyone provide any suggestions on how to get a discount on car rental in Uluru/ Ayers Rock ? We are not too fussed with the type of car and would also be OK with compact/ hatchback version.

I have tried to look for discounts but havnt been able to find any.

  • With the last days of climbing Uluru everything is at max capacity.

    • Sorry .. i should have mentioned.. my travel dates are in Feb and there is heaps of availability but no discounts :(

      • As others have mentioned it is a very closed economy so everything is expensive.

They don’t really need to discount. There is a limited number of cars there and they will get booked out. Demand is higher than supply.

I would think the likely way for any discount is going really off peak and booking last minute. But then you run the risk of not getting one at all…

  • Roadtrip up there, it's a really worthwhile trip.

  • We just have 4 days and 3 nights and flights have already been booked.. Does anyone know if can purchase some kind of vouchers for hertz/ thrifty/avis online at a discount?

They often have promotions, sign up to their mailing lists and wait it out.

  • i went there recently and they didn't have any "cleaned" cars, we got it for $160 instead of $180 haha

  • I visited Uluru last month and got a car with Avis. I wanted a Mitsubishi ASX but they upgraded me to a Prado. Umm, nice, but the car burns far more fuel (10L/100km in highway driving) and wasted quite a bit of money.

Also Avis Ayers Rock Airport overcharged me for extra distance traveled. Charged $136 instead of $96. I sent a complaint to Avis almost 2 weeks ago but so far no response.

  • Not gonna save much anyway for 3-4 days, pay up or walk, that's how the locals used to do it, you want the real experience.
