Coles MasterCard - Unexpected Card Replacement Email

Got the following email today. It was unexpected because they replaced my card just 10 months ago when Coles MC moved to Citi. Makes me think if there is something more sinister behind the scenes.

Was wondering if others got a similar email? It is kind of annoying because of all the automatic payments I have to update again.

Excerpt from email:

We will be sending you a replacement Coles No Annual Fee Platinum Mastercard in the next three weeks. If you are a Primary Cardholder and have an Additional Cardholder or Paytag, we will also be sending a replacement card for them.

When the Coles Mastercard identification number is updated your account and card number also changes. As a result we need to send you and any cardholders linked to the account a new card….

  • Yeah, I got one too.

  • got the email 3 days ago.

  • Probably jumping on Latitude to bolster their IPO and make them look bigger than they are.

    • Jumping on latitude?

    • What has Latitude got to do with Coles? Citibank is the card issuer.

  • I got platinum cards
    They aren't platinum

  • Did you have an active insurance before coles/citi merger? If yes, does this change in card affect insurance? I had active insurance and have not received any such mail or replacement card

  • Coles platinum Mastercard with annual fee. No replacement notice received. Last replacement was 2017 IIRC.

My account number has never changed in the 10+ years I've had it. I've had about 4 cards re-issued or replaced.

In the back of my mind, if it's just a "my card is worn out, can I get a new one" the number on the card remains but the expiry and back number changes.

If it's a cancel and replace (compromised card) then the card gets a new number but not the account.

  • This happened to me when my paytag expired - they replace both at the same time even if your main card hasn't expired yet

  • I've got a platinum card and I received a similar, unexpected replacement email last week.

  • Has anyone actually received the replacement card? I got the email too but haven't received the card till now.

  • +1

Apparently Mastercard has to change their identifying number, which is why all Coles Mastercard holders are being issued with new cards.. (according to something I came across on social media)

Haven't received any communications from them recently but had my card replaced this year because my pay tag expired and they replaced both my cards.
