Qantas Lounge Access Using Points without Invitations

Hi All, i have some Qantas points and i would like to use the points to pay for the entry of Qantas Lounge in Melb Tulla airport. I would like to know has there any successful experiences where you can just go to the lounge counter before the flight and ask to enter the lounge, paying with points on the day, without any prior invitations.

Hi All, i have some Qantas points and i would like to use the points to pay for the entry of Qantas Lounge in Melb Tulla airport.

My initial response is - dear god why? Poor usage of points in terms of value for money.

International or Domestic? Do you have a lengthy transfer time between flights or something?

The domestic Qantas lounge in MEL is usually brimming with people and the food is pretty ordinary. Sure you can have a drink and nibbles but it's nothing special.

I haven't been in the QF Intl lounge for a while so cant remember how it fares. Regardless, the intl terminal is pretty good for a bite to eat and a wander around before ones flight.

Save your points IMO unless you have a 6 hour layover or something.

  • thanks for your comment.

What would be your best usage of points?

It's only 7000 for domestic lounge or 9000 intl lounge but I'd rather spend those points on converting to cash or flight upgrades.

You're essentially paying $70 or $90 for some nibbles/light snack and beers.

if you have a long intl layover, the $90 for a shower might be money(points) well spent. But if its just before a flight, I wouldnt bother.

      My 2c.

    • Save them for flight upgrades or better yet, round the world flights.

  • Qantas don't offer the option to pay for lounge entry at the door.

If you are flying at a quiet time of day, you may receive an email from Qantas inviting you to pay for lounge entry, but don't count on it.

I arranged a flight with points recently on a qf flight so I can use my lounge invitations, and honestly it was a waste. Except possibly if you're a heavy drinker, and enjoy free alcohol, there is not much worth putting in extra effort to get into a lounge. Pretty ordinary for sure. If it happens that you can go in without issue, sure, but I'd suggest don't put in any effort. 2cs
