Whilst historically this is a good price, the "gaming" aspect of this laptop is disappointing considering the power of the graphics card. Would avoid. Better deals to come.

This 3gb 1050 performs very close to 1050-Ti , as they have the same no. of cores albeit slower mem. with 96bit instead of 128bit interface

      • Im glad as i did actually buy it myself :) cant wait fir friday, i go to the dentist but i also get new laptop. Needed one for work, spoiled myself with a light gaming one :) ill mostly play os games like morrowind ect anyway after so shift knocks off.

world class question: which one is more expensive, the dentist or this laptop?

          • @CyberMurning: Laptop, just came off over 3 months off work due to injury then finding a new job, So free dental.

  • GTX 1050, Iā€™d call it a light gaming laptop

    • good enough for most games at 1080p60

performs very close to 1050-Ti with same no. of cores

  • no usb c, no memory card reader

  • Should run most games fine, just don't expect it to run them at high settings and still get a playable frame rate.

Expect low graphics settings etc etc

    • Thats all i ever wanted :)

Ha ha +1 for the sexy beast tag šŸ˜‚

Well done, you found the easteregg :)

  • asus tuf is not bad at all at this price! for someone like me, who plays only older titles, and does need good cpu/gpu for photo editing this is a good base model. sturdy as hell.

the only trouble is panel, only 45% ntsc color space. well, replacing that for 100% srgb coverage is about $100.

    • Do tell me more, how do i replace the screen if it anoys me?

      • it's not hard.

when I get to my laptop I will describe how to do it. did it so many times. or pm me when you get it

  • Guys could this handle 4k video editing? I just need a good one for my recent trip

$200ish more and you get 1650 gfx and 120hz screen.

    • Post it as a deal, for my needs the dd does the job. :) But yes your right that isnt a bad upgrade.

      • already done.

        • Just saw, congrats on getting more + šŸ˜‚

  • Cheers Seed - how portable is this at 2.3kg? I haven't had a 15" for a while but it's going to mostly for home use while overseas.

14" is kinda the sweet spot

    • No problem, also im a 6ft 3 who does 70kg box lifts with a barbell. So no matter itll be ok for me šŸ˜‚ as for you idk

      • lol fair enough mate.

The Huawei matebook pro actually seems to tick most of the boxes for me with portability vs light gaming. But it's only sold at microsoft/amazon. not to mention all the support stuff.

        • +1

Maybe good deal on black friday?

    • 2.3kg is considered heavy by today's standards, there are thinner and lighter laptops if portability is your goal

        Check msi ps63

        • Wow, a very good suggestion for someone who values portability

          • @Gorian4: Yeah. Known as 16 16 16 laptop.
1.6cm height, 1.6kg weight and 16 hours battery

            • @CyberMurning: Prestige 15 is the update of the ps63 with a 1650.

At 1.6kg as well, looks to be a great middle ground as long as MSI is reliable enough.

Will take a while for prices to drop though. $1799usd on B&H. JB has it for $2699 I think

              • @G Wok: that is wayyyy over my budgets. truly i think people must be crazy rich to spend $2k on laptop. so many good and cheap at $1k range.

                • @CyberMurning: Yeah I agree I'm looking at the $1k range too.

I've been pondering the TUF505D all day because I'm moving overseas for a while next week and this is the last day I can order and still TRS. But at 2.3kg, I just think it's not quite portable enough to take overseas with low battery.

I'm just looking for a daily driver that can play Dota 2/overwatch reasonably well.

Is ps63 worth a look or maybe better to wait until Prestige drives its price down?

The 1650 & 120Hz screen is a combo where the GPU can't quite reach those frame rates according to reviews.

Very confused it's been a while since I've shopped for a laptop, about 6 years. My Sony Vaio is still going along quite strong.
I am doing a short visit to the US in Nov maybe could pick up a laptop there.
