Can We Share Employee Purchase Program (EPP) ?

My fellow bargain hunters,

Some workplaces (usually big companies) offer their employees a Corporate Employee Purchase Program (EPP).

This benefits the employee by offering them a discount on goods & services including tech (Samsung, Apple, Microsoft, Dell etc), retail (RM Williams, JB Hi-Fi, Lexus etc), health insurance and gas & electricity.

I bought a phone from Apple about 4 years ago through the EPP and saved 15%, all I needed to do was show my work ID/badge, however the customer service associate didn't bother checking but applied the discount anyway.

1) If your workplace offers this, do you share it with others outside of your workplace? (friends, family strangers online)
2) Should we be sharing our EPP with the OzBargain Community? (does it go against your company policy?)

TLDR: Do you and should we be sharing EPP to save a buck or two? Keen to hear your thoughts.

  • generally, no…

  • Hey…good point. I could use your Apple discount, care to share?

    • I would if I could but I work for a new company that doesn't offer EPP with Apple.

      • Can you name the company. I will hound my friends if they work for the company hehe!!

        What are the ramifications ?

They curse you. Whenever you get out of bed in the morning, there's a piece of lego on the floor that you step on, no matter how many times you clean up or remove every trace of lego from your house.

Friend worked or a teleco and on sold his 5 Galaxy S9 handsets.
Was banned from the EPP program
got an official warning from his employer.

          • @jimbobaus: Ooh :(

          • @jimbobaus: You friend must be profiting from it. As in taking advantage of the EPP buying cheap and selling at a profit, and do it via facebook (where your work colleagues get to see, or brag about it). No one cares if you buy an odd one for a friend or a relative, sharing and caring v taking advantage.

            • @spal: For the record.. Samsung cares… and they care a lot.
If they catch you.. you will never get access to the EPP again.. even if you change employers.
He switched to another brand of teleco and when the S10 offer came out, he was denied access due to his being removed at his previous job.
(he could not even access the Westpac CC deal that was running a while back)

he was not selling for profit, he offered them for the cost he paid.
A random Samsung Australia employee found his post on a forum, contacted him as a "buyer" got his info and then reported him
the next morning he walked into work and was pulled into the office, reprimanded and removed from the EPP program

              • @jimbobaus: Sorry, I didn't know that some employer would go down the extreme path. At our work we can get discounted movie tickets. There is no restriction of buying these for your family and friends. But I guess movie tickets is a marketing program, and it is not in the same league as mobile phone discounts.

  • Best is to share the info of it, and then let there be further discussion privately regarding any sharing.

How about how some people were getting 50% off the Note 10. At $1,499 RRP that's a pretty significant saving, and it would be a shame for that offer to go to waste.

I see value in this post. There is benefit in sharing the knowledge, not necessarily sharing the benefit itself. Then OzBs can approach their friends or families for benefits, if they are able and willing to help.

Good idea. Dedicated EPP section of OzBargain. I work for "X Company" and get "Y%" discount from "Z". Hopefully a moderator sees this.

  • I already do.

I buy HUP MS Office licences for friends (1 per year).

    • That would be gone now though. Now one time MS Office licences have been discontinued. Although, Office 365 is available for free.

  • Most of such services are limited (1 license / cycle or year), and generally require access to your email account, or that the person needs to show photo ID, making use by other difficult, and againt company policy or agreement with the 3rd party.

  • Poll need to add following option;
"I'm with a EPP, Sharing is caring"

Else it's look like, people in "Sharing is caring" option more likely not in a EPP program.

  • Apple store sales rep asked for my employee ID in store but the discount can be used by anybody online. But I don’t know if any discount is applied on iPhones.
Incidentally, my university email address is still active for some reason, so I can get a student discount too here and there.
