Browsing through Amazon and saw this pop-up.

I didn't buy as I have a O365 subscription through work I can use, but seems very cheap!

The reviews all said it activated and it's fulfilled by Amazon so I guess if there are issues, they protect you?

They also have Windows 10 Professional 32/64bit for $25.92.

Hope it helps someone!

Don't buy these keys. These scammers buy the ProPlus subscription using fake credit cards, resell the keys. Then a year down the track, you'll get a sync/license issue dialog from Office saying the key isnt legit. If you been using OneDrive included as part of subscription your account is now locked out for good. This is exactly what happened to me after buying from an ebay vendor. It's a well known scam. These scammers sell hundreds of keys before ebay picks up on the activity, closes account then they come up with new stores, repeat, rinse. Appears now they've decided to hit Amazon.

    • Oh no… I bought one back in February on Ebay for $37 (Office 2016). I thought it was cheap because it was the superseded version. Then later I noticed the seller's account suspended. Is there any way I can find out if the key is valid now, instead of waiting until a year (next Feb)? I don't like the idea of it suddenly stopping working without notice.

      • +1

The key is normally valid when it is sold, but the same key is given to lots of people. Eventually Microsoft detects this and deactivates the key.

So there’s no way to know this is happening until Microsoft detects it, then it’s too late anyway.

The whole thing is a scam.

        • So, how do you get compensation from eBay when this happens?

          • +1

@AussieZed: You don't, because by that stage the money is long gone and has been laundered. This is the equivalent of rocking up to some dodgy truck on the street and purchasing high-end televisions for $20. Caveat emptor.

          • @AussieZed: If you have used PayPal to pay then you will get a refund. I have got it

Illegal distribution. AFAIK these Microsoft product keys are part of msdn subscription which is not allow for distributed for profits.

    • +2

Not part of MSDN.. that was for older individual products.

Office Pro Plus "Retail" class keys are only available via MicrosoftHUP (though there was a portal page where if you were the administrator for your program, you could order in bulk)
      They aren't a "retail" product

If people are going to go for legit-keys-but-are-against-EULA there's other places to look.. surprised this made it to be listed on Amazon though.

The Home Use Program no longer sells the standalone Pro Plus products, they only have discounted O365 subscriptions now. I just checked it with my work email and it says (discontinued) next to the listed Pro Plus.

I wonder if an admin portal login can still get these, I saw the HUP site had a bulk buy portal login before.. (meant for the company's local admin)

          • @cwongtech: Still available through my Action Pack portal.

I got a licence key off eBay a few months ago for just over $10 and it's still going strong. Updated fine, and got it on 3 machines (which seemed to be the limit), then disabled updates and set the firewall to block everything (just in case).

I couldn't care less about the legal aspects. No ducks given.

But if you do buy, use it quickly, before it dies a lonely death.

    • I couldn't care less about the legal aspects. No ducks given.

Just make sure you aren't using it for company work with a size large enough that they could be targeted against Microsoft software audits and you'll be fine :)

      • +2

Agreed. You think it won't happen to you until it's too late. A person I know from work got fined $45k for using stolen MSDN keys.

I just use mine to write up resumes.. every now and then..

          Was that their own company?

        • There's no fine - it's not a criminal matter.

MS will sue you though - that's a civil matter. You won't got to jail, but it might cost you, tis all.

    • If you don't care about the legality, why not just pirate it outright, then? Giving organised crime money for something you can get (just as illegally) for free is extremely stupid, even for your average OzBargainer.

Guaranteed Microsoft updates and risk-free piracy I suppose..
Risk with pirated software (complete with downloaded installer) is you are trusting the person doing the cracking of the program's activator is also not injecting malicious code or backdoors into the potentially downloaded installer.

I installed pirated Windows 7 once.
        Once.

I installed NOD32 before I tried to activate the Windows 7 using some activator.
Turns out, the activator adds some MUTEX to exclude itself from every scan.

Then I thought, is it really worth saving $150, when your entire system could be compromised, the one where you manage your life savings on, do internet banking, etc?

From that point, I only use official installers.
If you're going down to the piracy route..
Keygens (generating license keys) + official installer is always safest, or permanent fully-functioning trial by way of windows registry key resets is the absolute safest.
Most risk there is - keygen might have malicious code in it as well.

P.s. If you still have any old office PCs lying around, Windows 7 COA stickers can be used to activate Windows 10 (for you DIY builders).
Windows 7 office PCs were imaged with a preloaded factory key specific to the manufacturer, and the motherboard/BIOS had some certificate that would activate ANY Windows 7 OEM edition.
Those Windows 7 COA sticker keys are actually not used in the preloaded image.
No one has time to enter codes for every single PC made.

i.e. Anyone remember Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade?
You could grab the Windows 7 Ultimate OEM key and it would activate successfully (because the motherboard/BIOS certificate was not edition specific)

      • Oh no, i wouldn't pirate - security risks are way too high, and that would make it a criminal matter. Well, i did try it, with Word 2016, but got nowhere.

On this occasion i downloaded Office Pro 2019 from MS servers, then just used the key which i obtained from eBay using a separate account that isn't linked to me in any physical way. How would i know if it's unlawful or not? I don't know anything your worship - hell, it was on eBay. Just home use - wouldn't do it in the corporate environment.

        Your outrage makes me sleepy.

No outrage, just amazed at the thieves on here who will idiotically pay for stolen goods rather than just stealing them outright for free. It's stupidly against the OzBargain spirit.

          • @mickeyjuiceman: It's not theft as far as i know - no criminal law intervenes here.

And getting something for very little is the very bedrock of the OB Spirit.

I paid just over $10, and the retail looks like $169. For your typical home user that's ludicrous, and encourages the approach i've taken. I'm feeling remarkably intelligent when i look at those numbers.

@[Deactivated]: You are right, it's not theft, you simply break the user agreements which means they can suspend your access.

Piracy however becomes a minefield. Can be criminal or enforceable depending on where you live.

But i'd still pirate because $10 is still too expensive lol

              • @plmko: Folk can download Office Pro Plus 2019 from MS servers here. Nice.

  • saw someone of marketplace selling office 2007 cd for $20 smh

  • Where can I get a legit copy of Windows 7 or 10 for a good price?

    • DreamSpark or whatever they call it now.

    • +1

You can buy a Windows 7 Pro Retail DVD from eBay.
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Windows-7-Professional-Edition-D…

Not, super cheap, but it is legal.

You can use a Windows 7 Pro product key to activate Windows 10 Pro.

    • windows 7 COA sticker on an old office PC ;)

      • That will work, but is only legal if it's a retail COA. If it's a preinstalled OEM version of Windows 7, it can only legally be used on the original computer. The only exception to this is for people living in Germany.

  • Free if you have Office 365 at work. Just go to www.office.com login and click install to see if your workplace allows installation to your personal computer.

    9.99 Now. I paid 14.98 Oh NO!

    • Same!!

    • And to make matters worse, outlook 2019 still doesn't have a unified inbox.

  • Anyone here or voted this actually bought?

  • +1

    Price is now showing $5

    • Lol….. $4.99!

      I've set a price alert for $1.99.

  • eBay option at $5.72.

    • I bought this one yesterday, just for fun.

      Works fine (for now).

However, it really offers nothing above my 2013 genuine version, I doubt I'll bother using it.

  • This is good for one install but it can get blacklisted. If it does, you can still continue to use it and it won't nag you or warn you that your key is invalid or deactivate. As long as you never uninstall or format, it's yours to keep and if you get a year or few out of it, that might be well worth the cost. I know this because I have bought these kind of keys before.

I got it for $9.97 from a different seller, and got the $2 shopback bonus (or at least I hope I did).

Do not be surprised if you find yourself needing to buy another copy. The seller will disappear quickly so you probably won't be able to chase him up. But buying a few of these would still be much cheaper than buying 365 for a year.

  • $14.99 now

  • FYI LibreOffice is 100% free and supports MS Office formats.

    • Yeap….does the basic job, but not Office.
