    so tempting :o

    • +4

Seriously very close to biting, but then I think if I can hold out for the Pixel 4XL 128GB to go on a 20% off sale, bringing it down to $1200,then the difference of about $200 for a phone with a better camera would be worth it for me.

      • +1

My thoughts exactly. But this phone is fantastic and the price keeps getting more and more tempting.

  • +2

    good value

  • I would own one of these by now if they didnt have their stupid modified OS in the way….

    • -6

Root it and install cyanogen mod,

      • +2

Don't think you can, they don't allow unlocking of the bootloader.

      • I thought they had locked bootloader

      • cyanogen mod died years ago

        • +1

No it didnt, it just changed name.

          • +5

@MasterScythe: Who uses custom roms nowadays anyway?

I am too tired to even change launcher lol

            • @nikoris: True, plus the trouble then fix around to get Gpay or other app that requires higher security level to work the way it supposed, sometime it just not worth the hassle to flash custom ROM anymore.

      • I can't; bootloader is locked.

Otherwise id have done it already.

    • +17

I'm too old for rooting phones now. I just want it to work and not worry about it.

    • +1

      Why not?
I'd love competition, Android has reached its ceiling..

I don't think Huawei os will be based on android…

      • But they are

        • +1

I think he's referring to Huaweis home grown OS, Harmony/HongMeng OS

          • +1

@Trishool: Which I'm pretty sure is based on the Open Source version of android.

    • Change the launcher.

  • +3

They are in a hurry of getting rid of them… seen so many deals regarding p30 these couple days

    • +1

Could say the same with the Samsungs…

  • Why are they cheap?? At the moment??

    • +1

Mate 30 Pro around the corner.

    • +4

      Because mate 30 is launched.

      • +1

It has not launched in Australia, has it?

      • I know Google blocks Google Mobile Services from Mate 30. Is there a way to sideload them?

        • There was a very easy way. But Google blocked it.

    • AH i see cheers for the info guys

    • As others have said; Mate 30 soon to be released, but also the doubt about Huawei's support of existing android phones once they focus on their home grown os that will be on the Mate 30 and others (despite their assurances at this point).

  • The race is on to set the new low

  • +4

Technically the other deal was better thanks to the Shopback $60 refund.

  • Damm…$950 got from JB a few days ago

  • Still pretty good bargain :)

  • IMHO the S10 from Jbhifi for free was a much better deal :)

    • Is it still available until tomorrow?

    • +1

      What's this about a free s10?

      • +2
        1. Get the JBHifi Telstra $65/month plan for 12 months with the $500 gift card (see prior deals).
        2. Switch to a Telstra month to month plan after signings up.
        3. Cancel the Telstra sim, pocket the $500 gift card.
        4. Rinse and repeat to stock up on GCs.
        5. Wait for a JBHifi deal (like the S10 deal) and pay with the GCs.
        6. Enjoy the free phone

I must admit, you could have got the P30 Pro for free as well :)

        • +2

Recon I read on another thread they've closed this loophole by not allowing you to switch to month to month plan straight away anymore. Would love to hear confirmation someone's done this recently and I'm wrong.

          • @RambunctiousRog: It was still working about 6 weeks ago when the last JB deal was on. Not sure if it has closed. There are a few ways to switch to a Telstra monthly plan so I doubt it is closed completely.

            • @WTF: You can switch month to month but you need to pay ETC.

              • @bibimbap: Hasn't been an issue for me personally. I did not have to pay ETC.

Curved screens suck. Basically you lose screen real estate and they feel like a very narrow display.

Only buy a flat screen phone.

    • +1

Yes, i agree. It is so gimmicky

  • Is this trs eligible even though >900

    • Anything over 300 is TRS eligible. There is no upper limit. Its just that when you decide to take get it back into the country there is a $1000 limit on goods imported.

      • +1

It's >AUD$900 on return per person

If the total value of the goods a traveller is bringing into Australia that they have purchased overseas or for which they have claimed a refund under TRS is greater than their passenger concession (exceeds AUD$900)

        https://www.ato.gov.au/business/gst/in-detail/your-industry/…

        • Does that mean value of good exceed 900, or the trs claim amount exceed 900

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: the value of goods that you bring in (back to Australia) >$900, you need to declare it
But given that your phone is $930 but they usually take into account depreciation
Also if you travel with your family, each one got $900.
            hope it helps.

            • @bbh30: Yeha family stacks up. So two adults get $1800 allowance.

Does girlfriend count as family though?

              • +1

@Circly: Haha.. Good Question, I'm not from the Department of Home Affairs and its operational arm the Australian Border Force (ABF). Therefore, I won't be able to answer this question. But if he/she is your partner, I believe it does count.

                • @bbh30: Thanks! TRS refund here i come!

  • +1

    Kinda OTT:
Could anyone explain what TRS eligible means.

    • +1

means you can claim 10% back (the GST) at the airport when you go overseas.

      TRS means Tourist Refund Scheme.

  • I think its OOS
