Thoughts? Personally, I was considering switching from Apple if Google unveiled a small model (iPhone 5ish size) but it looks like big phones are still the trend.

  • 5ish size

    5" era is dead.

    • i'll keep hoping :(

      • Don't worry they always look smaller from the top.

  • There's still meant to be a smaller 4a coming right? Maybe they're not releasing it initially so people buy the more expensive models

    • No idea. The unfortunate thing is most manufacturers seem to think small phones need to be cheaper models. Subpar in performance and features in comparison to their higher-end models.

I'm not after a cheaper phone, just a smaller one.

      • A matter of practicality too. Smaller phone = smaller battery. With the same features it would have unacceptable short battery life.

        • Smaller screen = less power though.

      • Yep, I prefer compact and powerful phones too. It may be 2 years old but I haven't seen any phone I like more than my Sony.

  • I'll get the Pixel 4 in 128GB as an upgrade to my Pixel 2

Now whether to go on contract or buy outright …Got mine via this deal … Has to be with Telstra though 🤔

    • Probably won't find a similar deal unless Telstra changes their plans. a jb hifi deal is your best bet for the foreseeable future

      • Yeah; already prepared to pay more money since they also don't do data sharing on consumer plans any more (I share my data with my iPad mini 4)

    • I'll get the Pixel 4 in 128GB as an upgrade to my Pixel 2

Why? What can it do that the Pixel 2 can't?

    • +1

Same contract as you, was looking at the new phone feeling ($150 one off fee) , but still choosing a small plan and adding the P4XL comes up to over $100 a month. And you have to hand the phone in.
On paper I am not sure it makes sense. Plus my P2XL hasn't missed a beat.

  • Probaly wait until it comes out in store so i can get it with the deals plus any free products it comes with

    • and price protection ;)

  • The pixels always amaze me with the specs, BUT when it comes to actually using the phone, I’m let down. Although I will say the camera on the 3, is crazy good

    • Specs are good but the designs a let down

    • I've gone through 2 gens of every major player except Huawei and pixel will be my first phone I have for 3 gens (skipped Pixel 3).

I thought the design is great considering the tech. The only design I liked better is the Sony.

      • Yeah, not sure what the problem with the design is? Not flashy enough? Not enough bloatware?

        • Not elegant.

The Sony one had one side button that served as fingerprint reader, power button and volume.

The shape lens was inset when competitor's weren't. (can't help it these days with bigger camera expectation).

I did have to write off Sony since their water sealing failed. My phone is perpetually covered in fish guts.

  • No more fingerprint sensor? Notch is gone but replaced by the big top bezel (which contains all the camera and gesture hardware)? Top spec phone but doesn't have SD855 Plus? These are some of the questionable directions IMHO, but fortunately Android is a relatively open platform and there are lots of phones from different manufacturers to choose from.

    • Let's not forget storage capacities. 64GB as base storage and 128GB as max storage options in flagships should be considered an abomination in 2019.

    • S9 Bezel and IPhone camera

  • Pixel 4 screen size is going to be the same size of Nexus 6P. I Pass.

I have a Pixel 2 and love its screen size.

    • +2

You might already be aware of this but the Pixel 4 is almost identical in size to the Pixel 2. The reason the screen is bigger is because the bezels on the Pixel 2 are quite big.

      • I hadn't thought of that. Thank you.

  • I was really looking forward to this to upgrade from my Pixel 2XL. It's nice but definitely not amazing. Will need a good sale on the 4XL 128GB to tempt me!

    • we'll have some sale down the line once initial euphoria is settled..

Pixelbook Go is another product that I was interested in, as I spent a lot of my computing time on Chromebooks. It's again a bit disappointing at US $649 for the base model (m3, 8GB/64GB). With the whole Android ecosystem available on ChromeOS, I probably won't be looking at a small portable Chromebook that does not even have 360° hinge. Not even sure whether Pixelbook Go can do 180° — which would be a waste if it can't.

At the moment Asus Chromebook Flip C434, Dell Inspiron Chromebook 2-in-1, HP Chromebook X360 or even the ageing Samsung Chromebook Pro are better buys.

  • From $1059
    No thanks

    • Wait a year and pay 1/2 price.

      • Yep thats what I normally do. Just ridiculous how expensive phones are getting.
