    Dang!

    Awesome deal gets better!

Very happy with my S8 though, so not annoyed in the slightest.

winning the lotto, not even for free!!!

So glad you could add your insight as to why with your comment.

I am suspecting 8200 is an employee of either Floptus or Vodafail.

    • I didn't know anyone had a problem with Telstra besides price. Service-wise they're generally the best, they just charge too much for it.

      • Can't speak too much for their call/contact centre - but as far as reception is concerned, Telstra is pretty much the only option in Tassie. In the last 7 years I've been with Vodafone and Optus down here, and both had some pretty bloody big black spots in built up areas.

        • Telstra is pretty much the only option anywhere outside central Perth in WA. I do not know where they get the statistics for Optus coverage from.

  • +5

It gets more ND more tempting to switch to these deals but I don't wanna have the contract lol

    • +3

I don't wanna have the contract

I don't want to pay XDD

      • +5

I'd pay the 59 on a 12 month but 2 years is far to long imo… So much changes.

        • +5

LOL, that's generous of you to be happy to pay $708 for a Pixel 2 with 15GB of data for 12 months

        • +1

@prhino: this is why it doesn't work out lol… I'd be happy if it was you must stay for 24 months but can do 2*12 month so in a year I can improve my contract… Atm I'm on 10gig for $40 a month. month to month, why would I sign to 12 months for 5gig I'm not using anyway, I just wanted the pixel lol…

My Moto g5+ is great though so I don't need to upgrade either lol.

        • @Slippery Fish: The best bargain is the bargain not taken.

  • +3

    Told about this yesterday…..wanted 128Gb XL but told only 64Gb Pixel2 :(

    • +5

would be happy with even the 64gb XL

    • Actually it was in JBHIFI!

    • If you are someone who takes alot of photos then you will have to upload the data on google photos. its a good deal though.

      • Wish they told me about this yesterday before I signed up for the S8!

        • S8 should be able to use Google Photos, in fact I believe even iPhone can use Google Photo too.

        • +1

          @khing:
Regular Google Photos app provides unlimited storage for photos with reduced image quality. Pixel has unlimited storage for original snaps.

        • +1

@revhead: That's right. I actually had compared the quality of reduced size and the original, not able to see the difference by myself :)

        • @khing: Hah yeah, Google Photos image compression is really really good. Seems they shot themselves in the foot a bit there.

        • +2

@revhead: up till 2020 that is, if anyone is still using a pixel 2 by then.. Only the original pixel/XL have unlimited storage for full quality photos for life

        • @lyle88: far out, Google. Didn't know that. Not a biggie tho as tiĺl then battery will be a potato anyway (after 3 years of fast-charging tortures).

JB hifi have this deal but with a $200 gift card so best to go through JB

    • Can you link me to that?

      • Yeah link would be great. Ok for existing customers but new plan?

        • I can see an advert for a $97 plan with $200 card but not $59…

    • Link?

    • jb's website says the $200 gift card is for new telstra customers only

      • +1

        Link to pixel 2 + $200 card for $59 p/month?

        • apologies i was looking at the byo page

          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/phones/activatenow/

        • @DiscoJango:

look at old thread. That wont work, its either the $49 port in plan with $200 or Free phone with $59 plan

        • +7

          @phocus:

Not true, I ported from Virgin to Telstra $49 BYO with the $200 gift card. Then went to Telstra and upgraded to Family & Friends with a Galaxy S8 on the $59 plan. This morning I used live chat and got the $10 a month discount added.

It is harder to get the $10 a month discount apparently from the other thread, but the JB port w/ $200 gift card and then S8 (or Pixel 2, in this case) is definitely possible.

        • @adzzz97:

          Sorry which other thread?

        • @adzzz97: I'm curious too if I can get that extra $10 off will definitely jump on boat

        • @adzzz97:
The JB offer has 12 month contract attached to it - according to this page
but apparently we're allowed to break contract if upgrading to a longer/dearer contract?

        • @adzzz97: So I can just go into a Telstra store after porting my number through JB and upgrade with the pixel?
Or do I have to wait a certain amount of time?

        • +1

          @adzzz97:
          Can confirm this works.
Comes to $4/15gb/month after selling the s8 and giftcard

        • @bs0: So if we got the $49 BYO deal we can ‘upgrade’ to the $59 plan with Pixel 2 and ask for the $10 discount back to $49??

        • @bs0: how much you manage to get the phone for, rough cal is around $1100. Is that correct?
          59x24=$1416-200=1216
          1216-(4x24)=$1120 about for the s8?

If so I might consider getting it as $4 a good price for just a phone plan.

        • +2

          @borgsta:

This one. I'd start from the last page of comments if I were you.:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/342769

        • @adzzz97: hi,
Just wondering what the $10 discount is for, is it for porting or you just tell them that's what you were getting before the upgrade?

        • @mistermr6:
          Automatic

        • +1

          @huntress_love:
          105$ CashRewards (expired now)
          Sold s8 for 800
          Sold gift card for 180
          Extra 10/m off (240$)

        • +3

[@adzzz97] What was your reason/how did you ask for the $10 discount over the chat?

        • @adzzz97:

Not true, I ported from Virgin to Telstra $49 BYO with the $200 gift card. Then went to Telstra and upgraded to Family & Friends with a Galaxy S8 on the $59 plan. This morning I used live chat and got the $10 a month discount added.

Just wanted to confirm the best sequence to go through here (I'm with an Optus reseller currently).

          1. Port to Telstra (at JB HiFi?), get gift cards
          2. Order new phone via Telstra web site on $59 plan
          3. Ask online chat to reduce plan by $10

          ?

        • @abb:

That is what I did except I did step 2 via a Telstra store, rather than online.

        • @adzzz97:what did you say on the online chat to get the $10? Just "I want $10/month off please"?

        • @talismansa:

I said that I heard some people were getting it and asked if I was eligible.

  • C'mon Huawei Mate 10 Pro.

    • I thought that was already a part of the phones offer on this deal?

      • it's a part of the optus $59 deal.

        • +1

ah thanks for clarifying, I've got my deals mixed up!

  • Haven't opened box for S8… Could it be possible to make a swap?!

    • I'm sure if it's unopened and still wrapped then they would be willing to do it.

      • Nope

        • You know for sure?

I literally got the S8 yesterday. Still sealed, I would have jumped on the Pixel 2 for sure.

        • @chromium: best to go to Telstra and ask..unless the person works at Telstra, nothing is ever a definite “nope” haha unless stated in t&c of course

        • @sauce2k:

Yeah I'll go back to the store I got it from and see. Might be trickier if I got it online rather than in store

        • +1

          @chromium:
When a contract goes through, you can't just remove it. The system adds termination charges all automatically. If the circumstances it's extraordinary, then they'll work with other internal teams to balance out the termination fee.

It's a lot of admin cost of a change of mind, and hence, I rather incept the idea of a no rather than a yes, because it's more realistic.

        • +3

          @madmouse58:

I just spoke to live chat and they said:

"Yes for this you can visit to the store, if you didn't open the box so you will be able to change the device with same whatever you want, however for this you have to keep your valid id proofs so they will autherized and then help you with that."

I know live chat isn't the most reliable, but it's definitely worth a try.

Now I need to decide if I really want the Pixel 2 or keep the S8. The S8 has its advantages: Headphone jack, microsd, better screen and the Pixel 2 has better software, better camera and what seems to be better battery life. Tough choice

        • @chromium: for that it's worth I signed on the same deal with telstra for S8. It has been awesome so far. I love the screen, headphone jack (not used much though), micro sd (haven't needed it yet). But overall very satisfied.

Oh, except that you might expect a Black Screen of Death error (pls google). Easy fix is hard reboot of the phone. BUt still annoyed me that a premium phone had that kind of error though.

          Have fun with deciding!

        • @chromium: I know that would be the case for Optus. The IMEI is in the contract. They'd have to cancel the contract and do a new one.

        • @chromium: Can I ask why? over the s8

        • @TRENT86:

Cleaner, later version of Android is the only reason. The S8 hardware is much nicer. Ended up keeping the S8.

        • @chromium: Still can't decide :(

        • @chromium: Still can't decide :(

    • Interested in this too. Please let us know.

      • Same boat. Optus chat said if device is unopened then within 30 days is ok to cancel, no fee. Number can still be ported out. I feel a bit weird though going back to Harvey Norman and just being like "hey here's your phone back". Do I need to get some paperwork from Optus first to be safe?

    • Nope

    • +1

I sold my S8 on eBay the day it arrived. Would have kept if Pixel 2.

    • Could also cancel contract as I'm pretty sure there are cooling off periods…

      • +1

Cooling off periods do not apply for face to face in store requests. Only for unsolicited sales.

  • +3

Fark paying $87/month for 7GB for my P2.

    This is a good deal.

  • -2

They need to match optus and add iphone 8

    • +3

This is the response to Optus's iPhone 8 deal, I think.

      • +13

        Telstra won

    • +3

no they dont. thats like saying audi need to match kia's pricing. inferior product.

      • +1

Really? Pretty sure Kia have the 7 Year Warranty though, so perhaps a different comparison is apt?

        • +3

to be honest kia is getting really good. i was going to say daewoo or diahatsu but they both seem to be out of business.

  • +2

WHAT ABOUT THE DAMN HTC U11?!

    • Optus have it in their Christmas deal

      • Yeah I got my wife that, but I signed up for the $200 JB gift card deal with Telstra…So I'd like a Telstra deal. I suspect a lot of people are in the same shoes (those who don't want the original phones on offer with the F&F deal)

  • +6

Chatted with Telstra yesterday and tried to match iPhone 8 deal from Optus, the rep told me to hold up as Telstra will launch FEW new phone into $59 promotion deal. I double asked if its iPhone 8, he just say FEW phones will be added.

    • just wait after 3 January, Telstra will add more phones, after Optus deal ends, then they add iPhone 5c lolz

  • +2

also, you cant technically buy the pixel 2 online yet. their link for the buy now button still directs you to the samsung galaxy s8 page.

the buy now link (at this moment in time) for the pixel 2 is:
