    • can't find them on the cash rewards site

    • My bad didn't realise they removed it, it was there 2 weeks ago

  • +3

Hmm, Pixel 2 just disappeared from the list. Direct link from earlier comments now throws a 404 error

    • +2

      dang, ozbargained?

    • damn!

  • +3

Oh WTF did they remove this?!

    • That sucks, was going to go in this afternoon to get one.

  • +1

Try in store. I managed to snag one this morning from the Knox City shop. Confirmed, saw that it was implemented as part of the friends and family plan at 9:36am in what looked like the store portal

    • +1

Getting one now from Melbourne Central store. Pixel 2 white. Also includes home mini.

      • Solid! :) Have spoken to online chat reps who also said $10 port in discount is available once you've ported over. Not 100% on whether it's applicable here though because the rep I spoke to in-store said it's not available with this. Seems to be a lot of information fragmentation within Telstra about this though, everyone's getting a variety of inclusions. I myself got the additional 5GB

        • I wasn't able to get the discount. She said it wasn't possible without a customer number from "my friend" that got the discount. But it sounds like I'll try again when my number gets ported… which sounds completely backward :/

        • Also a pair of AiAiAi Pipe headphones https://aiaiai.com.au/pipes/ All shrinkwrapped together.

      • Ask them if they'll let me come in and swap my sealed S8 for the Pixel 2 :)

I'll come in with it now if I can

  • I ordered one this morning from Bendigo Marketplace. When i told the sales rep, he said it was only the first pixel, but after showing him on the website he went and spoke to the store manager who told him they got added last night.

  • I just called JB to check they're still doing this and can confirm they are. So if you're willing to go to a store, you can still get it there. And maybe the Telstra store too.

Even though I really wanted the HTC U11, I'm gonna jump on this deal.

    • Just sell the sealed Pixel 2 and buy a new U11?

      • Hard to find a U11 around. They're no longer at JB too.

        • Get them to check in store stock. I went to two JB's today and they both had them on display so there must be stock somewhere

  • I was in the middle of speaking to an agent (to get $10 off and extra 5gb for Pixel 2) when it disappeared off of the site. His response was 'As we are going through some technical issue with the Pixel 2 with friends and family offer, So I would request you to please try after some time or get back to us after some time so we can help you with that.'

I asked if the offer is still available and he said 'Paul, Currently , As I have checked Pixel 2 is not mention on the website with the same offer, So currently we do not have exact deatails regarding the same, I would request you to please check once after some timre.'

Guess it's a day of hitting F5 on the Telstra Friends and Family page :)

    • every agent i've spoken to has been unwilling to offer the $10 discount. Have a cable plan with telstra so the 5gb is easy to get. Hopefully you can do better.

      • From what an agent said that I spoke to last week, I'm eligible for both the $10 discount and extra 5gb because I'm porting over from Optus. But we will see what happens when (/if) the Pixel 2 comes back online.

  • NOOOO i was sleeping on this all night … tossing up between iphone8 on optus or this .. i finally decided to jump to GOOGLE … BRING IT BACK OMG NOOO

    • If you can get to a store it's still on. Getting a pixel 2, google home mini and a pair of headphones now at melb central

      • Is this at the telstra store? I wonder if i can go to a Jb store for this

        • Yep Telstra at Melbourne Central. I recontracted from the JB HI-Fi deal where got $200 gift card so didnt think to go back there.

also got a google home mini and AiAiAi Pipe headphones https://aiaiai.com.au/pipes/ from Telstra store although JB sign I saw yesterday said mini for free with phone so wonder if they all shrinkwrapped together like mine is from factory?

        • @tdizzle: So the headphones were also shrinkwrapped?

        • +1

@Munki: correct :) phone, headphones and mini all in individual boxes but shrinkwrapped together

        • @tdizzle: Cheers. Just got one too from JB! Included a $100 gift card! :)

Just went to the Telstra Store at World Square in Sydney and got the deal. phew.

    • How did this interaction go? Did you just rock up and say you wanted the Friends and Family deal and they said ok? Or did you say you had a friend who worked there and they didn't ask questions? Or do you actually have a friend that works there?

      • +3

PSA: Get this deal in-store, not online. I just went to the Sydney World Square store on George St, and walked away with a fantastic deal.

Background: I just ported 2 numbers from Optus to Telstra last week: each of them was SIM-only, with $39/month on a 12 month contract, with 15GB data each. The way that works is it's a $49/month plan for 10GB< but they give you a $10 monthly discount and an extra 5GB. Both of these discounts were kept on my account when I upgraded in-store half an hour ago.

In store, they gave me two Pixel 2's on a $59/month plan over 24 months. They kept the extra 5GB (which I had gotten last week via online chat, for porting 2 numbers; it's supposed to be 5GB total, but the chat agent gave us 5GB each). They also kept my $10/month discount/credit, which I had gotten last week for porting online. And the phones in-store come with a free Google Home Mini and AiAiAi headphones, all wrapped into 1 bundle.

TLDR: each of us got a new Pixel 2, for $49/month over 24 months, with 20GB data each, plus 2 Google Home Mini's and 2 AiAiAi headphones. I don't think you can get that online… ;)

        • That's an awesome deal!

        • +1

does the $10 discount only last 12 months tho?

if thats the case its more of a $54 plan

        • +1

@phocus: But considering he's getting 20GB each, that's still pretty good.

        • +1

          @Munki:
oh for sure its a great deal.

also he could have got $100 jb voucher if he did it at jb. Almost had the perfect dealz

        • @phocus: I don't think JB would have kept the $10 discount. They didn't for my plan. :(

        • @Munki: oh. well that changes everything

        • I am at the Sydney world Square telstra store now, and the store manager said no this is not possible. They are not giving the $10 discount for this friend and family plan at all.

        • I instead got the deal from JB world square. got the bonus 5GB and $100 JB gift card.

      • +2

The guy I dealt with knew the exact deal I was asking about, said he was going to get the same for himself and how awesome the pixel 2 phone was. No questions asked regarding friends and family, and I do not know anyone who works for Telstra.

        • thanks!

  • +1

Seems like people are sending out mixed messages about JB HiFi doing this deal..

Can anyone confirm they were able to sign up for the same $59/15GB offer with Pixel 2 phone at a JB HiFi store and received a bonus $200 JB Hifi gift card?

    • At the Bourke St (Melbourne) store, the sign said $100 gift card

      • Thanks but is the bonus gift card part of the same plan described in this deal?

        Let me rephrase my question:
Can anyone confirm they were able to sign up for the $59/15GB Telstra plan with Pixel 2 phone at a JB HiFi store and received a bonus ($100 or $200) JB Hifi gift card?

        • The bonus gift card is part of the same plan described in this deal.

However, it is $100, not $200, at the store I went to.

        • @prhino: Just called my local JB and I was told gift cards are definitely for $99 and above plans only… Grrr.

        • @prhino: Thanks for clearing that up. Might be a store specific offer going off other comments

        • Yeah, it must be. I took a photo.

        • @googolplex: it is NOT store specific - just misinformed staff members @ JB. $59 family and friends plan, Pixel 2 64gb (w/ Google home Mini and aiaiai headphones), and $100 gift card for new/recontracts IS AVAILABLE AT ALL JB HIFI STORES (so long as there is JB stock of the Pixel 2)!

    • @ googolex

The $200 gift card offer is a normal BYO plan without the phone.
if you want best of both worlds, take the JB $200 gift card deal, next day go to another jb and change it to this new f&f plan and get the $100 gc.

    • To get the $200 in gift cards, you need to go to JB and get the $49 BYO plan and then get the gift card. The following day you return and upgrade to the $59 family and friends deal.

I did this myself today. You have to wait a day for it to FULLY migrate

  • +2

Just confirming that if you upgrade at JB, you will get:

Pixel 2 64GB, Home Mini, Aiaiai earphones - all wrapped up together. You will also receive a $100 gift card.

    • Upgrade? Even though I am upgrading from an existing telstra service?

      • +2

That's correct. I got their $200 gift card for porting from Virgin to their BYO deal before, and now I went to "upgrade" to this F&F deal and received another $100 gift card. You also get $10 vouchers for each gift card (to be used in store only apparently), so essentially you have $320 to spend at JB. The $10 vouchers expire in Jan 2018 though, whilst the gift cards have no expiration.

        • Wow thanks Munki. I could never get things right the 1st time.
Missed out on $100x2 as i have just recontracted two of my services thru a Telstra shop.

Well thanks for the heads up, I can get my other two services done at JB!!
Did you just get offered the $100 gift card? I tried looking on JB and cannot find anything to back my case up if i had to ask for it.
          Cheers

        • @Bernstar: No problems mate. Happy to help the community. I actually wasn't expecting it, but the guy just gave it to me at the end of the sign up process. :)

  • Edit: posted this as a comment above

  • So since it's been taken off the site, no one had any luck switching their sealed s8 with a pixel 2?

    • I haven't tried yet. I went to a Telstra store near work to check out the Pixel 2 and their display model was broken and they didn't have any stock.

I'm leaning towards keeping the S8. The Pixel 2 looks pretty crap and is tiny. If it was the XL it would be a different story

  • +1

Update: reporting back. Just signed up to the deal $59/mth for 24mths and got a Google home mini as a bundled pack.

When i mentioned about extra 5gb per month when i have other services with telstra, lady who served me in the Sydney CBD shop had no idea.

Will probably talk to online chat to see if it is too late to get it.

  • +3

So from what I can extract for new Telstra customers:

1 - Sign up at JB on a BYO for $49/20gb with the $200 gift card, then upgrade through Telstra to the $59/15gb deal (plus retain your $10 discount if porting and see if you can get the extra 5bg), get a phone (Pixel 2 with bonuses/S8) plus $200 gift card

    $1176 over 24 months
    Plus phone
    Plus $200 gift card
    15-20gb data
PROS - $100 more in gift card, possibly 5gb extra data
CONS - 24 month contract, 2 step process (at least)

    -or-

2 - Go direct to JB on the $59/15gb (Pixel 2 with bonuses) with $100 gift card (not sure if this is 12 or 24 months or if you still get the porting discount of $10)

PROS - Possibly 12 month contract only > Can anyone confirm?, 1 step process, Possible porting discount > Can anyone confirm?
CONS - $100 less in gift card value compared with Option 1

    • 1 - yes but no $10 credit on $59 offer.
2 - No. 24 month contract and no $10 discount.

    • +3

It's a 24 months contract at JB. The plans are identical.

Edit: I think the people who are getting the $10 discount are due to manual errors the people made when they were signing up.

    • Has anyone been able to get the $100 JB voucher when coming over from Telstra PrePaid. Trying not to have to port out and port back in, but I want my $100 gift voucher damn it!

      • I'm not sure if it's still on, but I think you can just sign up to the BYO plan and get a $200 gift card, then upgrade to the F&F deal for another $100 gift card?

      • You don't need to be porting over to get the $100 gift card at JB. I just did it and I am currently with Telstra post-paid (out of contract).

        • Hmmm JB HiFi at Broadway won't do it. Will try Top Ryde

        • @BlinkyBill: Was just there two hours ago!

    • So with option 1 is it $300 gift cards in total and in option 2 it is $100 !

    • I'd just like to add a few of things based on my experience …

JB HIFI $49 with $200 gift card is only for new Telstra customers. Otherwise just port out to a $2 Voda sim.

And what's a bit confusing is they sign you up for the $59 BYO and then give you a $10 off per month in the system to achieve the $49 final price, which may be why ppl are saying "yay i got $10 off!".

And I signed up at JB Hifi on Thursday and I am still waiting for my number to migrate / port so my account is ready for me to go into the T store. So if you're hoping to do JB and T store in one trip, just be aware there's delays right now.

  • Just grabbed one in Kingsway, WA! They're out of Black models statewide and I grabbed the last of the Blue models that had a Google Home mini bundled with it. They didn't ask any questions regarding having family as members.

    • I've got the Blue too. Be careful with it cos it's slippery AF

  • Pixel 2 looks like it is being added back to the website. Thumbnail there but links don't work yet

    • +1

Telstra must have an excess of S8's they are trying to get rid of. Adding the Pixel 2 to cart, adds the S8 instead.

    • yes they added it and works well except they removed the free google home mini

  • +1

Went into JB Hifi and got this deal with a Pixel 2. Also got Google Home Mini, headphones and $100 JB Hifi Gift Card for free with the deal

    • Confirmed. Wife just signed up to this plan in JB and got the gift card on top of everything else.

    • what headphones ? dont see any mentioning anywhere.

      • They are AIAIAI pipe headphones (https://aiaiai.com.au/pipes/), Guessing they included them as the Pixel2 itself doesn't come with headphones. They are 3.5mm jack headphones so you still need to use the converter that comes with the Pixel 2.

The phone, google mini home and headphones were all shrink wrapped together so likely a preset package for JB Hifi.

  • Are you guys getting the free extra $5Gb/month when you sign in store as well ?
As I'm more interested in the 5Gb/month extra than the $100 gift card, to be honest….

  • Pixel 2 is back online for anyone interested

    • Yep, but there's a glitch that doesn't allow you to place the order (the black one redirect to the S8, the other 2 colours give you error 404).

  • Anyone happen to have a screenshot from the telstra page where it shows that you'll get a bonus google home mini?

The telstra people on chat don't believe me and I can't show them due to the 404 error at the moment.

    Thanks.

  • Pixel 2 back in stock in all colours

  • anyone that has the pixel able to get oreo 8.1 yet?

    • It came through for mine a couple of days ago

      • Yeah same here

  • Can I confirm that you will receive an extra 5GB if you go into the store and ask for it on top of the 15GB?

    • I got refused in store.

  • I'm confused why people are more excited by a Pixel 2 over a Samsung s8.

Is it just the camera and software, as from what I can tell the s8 trumps it in the rest.

    • -1

Same feeling here, its difficult to get the pixel 2 when the screen is 2014.

And difficult to get the s8 since s9 is coming in about 3-4 months.

      Probably won't jump on this.

    • Apart from camera and software, my feeling is a lot of people are thinking of selling the phone, Pixel 2 does have a higher reselling value at the moment.

      • That's likely what I will do. Sell and then use that cash and the gift cards for an XL.

    • I use to have samsung devices, but always found them slow down with age. I went with a nexus 5x two years ago and haven't looked back. I even find the photos look better than my partner's s7, not as washed out. I never found much use of Samsung extra features and now prefer the clean feeling of stock Android and getting access to new features months in advance to everyone else.

But I was very tempted to jump back to the s8 with this deal prior to the pixel 2 getting added.

The pixel 2 phones will also get three years of OS updates which is a great bonus.

  • order on Monday night just received the phone, Home mini and earphone :P
