Damn was deciding between this and the yammy rx-v685, but just bought the yammy at $708.
Would have bought this had i known…

Just curious, this looks very similar to the rx685. What would sway you to the Onkyo? Is it just the cheaper price.

      • brand cachet and the onkyo model number is one better, itntit?

      • +1

The only difference spec wise is that the Onkyo has two extra HDMI inputs. Otherwise they are very much like for like. We've had a great run with the Onkyo amps and at this price you really can't beat it :)

      • +1

Purely brand. I have owned onkyo before - very solid. Plus i would have liked a few extra hdmi inputs as 5 is minimum.

  • go for yamaha…7.1.2 .. very good amp… i used it every day.. where did you get for $708? really good price…

    • Radio-parts ebay store $870 - they had a 20% off during ebay sale bringing the price down.

  • Great deals. Anything on the sr 6014?

  • Does it have any or all pre-outs ?

    • It has 2 subwoofer pre outs :)

      • lol

  • Any recommendations for a 5.1.4 amp? Still early days for me but currently have a 5.1 system and building a house so can put the 4 ceiling speakers in.

Also got to decide whether to wall mount or buy speaker stands for my rears.

    • The Onkyo TX-RZ740 is a fantastic buy and will be able to accommodate for 5.1.4. It also has pre-outs for a 7.2.4 system if you decide to add more speakers later on. Definitely one to check out :)

      • Thanks Dan. Any recommendations on in ceiling speakers for Atmos?

Also, so you think the .4 Atmos is worth it? A lot of extra money on the am0 to support it over .2

        • Have a look at the Q Acoustics Qi65c Speakers. We use these for a lot of home theatre Atmos setups. How big is the room you've got your setup in?

          • @FunkyDan: 4.3m X 3.4m.

Still looking at speaker stands as well for the rears.

Probably pairing with an LG OLED at the moment rather than a projector.

            • @kulprit: For that room size 2 Atmos speakers would be enough. You could still go the 4 and it wouldn't be an overkill but the 2 will do a great job in that space easily especially if you only have one row of seats. Not a necessity to do 4 in my opinion but maybe what you can do is cable for them and if you find that you want to put them in you can always do so later. At least you would have cabled seeing as you're currently building.

For speaker stands we don't really have a big range in these but have a look at the System Audio FS4 Stands. We only have a couple of pairs left in the Black but for the price you can't go wrong..

Ordered the TX-NR686, suits my upgrade requirements perfectly.

  • Is pick up available?

    • Yes of course! However if you order online and pay via PayPal we have to ship it out according to PayPal regulations, but any other payment option you use can be picked up in store. Just let us know in the Order notes section which store you would like to pick up from when you process your order and we will keep it aside for you.
Alternatively you can come into the store and pay for it and pick it up when you're in and the same price applies in store as well as online :)

      • Excellent. I might pop in. When does this price expire? Cheers

        • Great! It's until the 31st of October or while stocks last

          • +1

@FunkyDan: Picked up today - thanks. Looking forward to setting it up!

    Ordered, thanks :)

  • Certainly not the cheapest price for the Nr686 but a good price nevertheless.

  • I would never buy an Onkyo anymore after the T-Board issues affecting most units sold over the years. My $700 TX-NR616AE is now just as useful as a paperweight. I'm sorry Onkyo, but you need to own up and fix your known defects rather than expect your items to last less than 7 years.

  • I would buy Onkyo again. Out of warranty over several years, my amp was repaired free of charge by Onkyo.

Can’t think of many audio brands that do this.

I’ve had it for over 8 years and still a fantastic unit.
