Nintendo Switch Games & Case Recommendation for a 7 YO

Hey guys,

Just ordered a Nintendo Switch for my kids and a Pro Controller as recommended by the OZB Community.

Looking for recommendations on a couple of games to start with for a 7 year old and also a reasonably priced carrying case?

Also, do I need a screen protector or the plastic screen should be alright without it?

Thank you :)

Looking for recommendations on a couple of games to start with for a 7 year old and also a reasonably priced carrying case?

Depends what type of games your kid is into. The Mario Games are generally great for all ages (Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Party, Super Mario Marker 2, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe etc).

Also, do I need a screen protector or the plastic screen should be alright without it?

If it being used by a 7 year old, most definitely get a Tempered Glass screen protector. Placing and removing from the dock and general use can scratch the screen.

    Dark Souls Remastered
As Richard has said Mario series is great for any age.
I think The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening looks like a decent game too.
Splatoon, Arms and 1-2 Switch are also quite fun.

Super simple —> Super Mario Odyssey

If they will be playing with someone else also get Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

that is it for games for a while.

7yo + Switch = screen protector mandatory. My daughter is the most careful 7yo kid I know, but even she has moments that I am glad that the screen protector is on.

Pokémon: Let’s go Pikachu. Let’s face it, what kids don’t like Pokémon?

And a good game to use with the pro controller is Splatoon 2. Great game to play docked to the TV as well.

In addition to the above my 6yo daughter loves Overcooked 1 + 2

  • Thanks everyone… Good start for me to find bargains on these recommended games :)

To throw a few extra ideas for games your way (some of which can be found quite cheap) besides the obvious ones that have already been mentioned a lot:
    Rocket League
    FIFA 18/19
    Yooka-Laylee
    Untitled Goose Game
    Sonic Mania
Crayola Scoot (has previously been under $5 on the eshop)
Snake Pass (currently on sale for under $10 on the eshop, but may be frustrating due to controls)
    StarLink
    Yoshi's Crafted World
    Pikuniku
    Snipperclips
    Lego Harry Potter Collection
    Fast RMX
Scribblenauts Mega Pack (super fun game even as an adult that can also encourage kids to be creative with their vocabulary and learning adjectives)
    Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy
    Spyro Reignited Trilogy

A lot of these games on this list made a lot of kids' childhoods when I was younger or are spiritual successors to a lot of the games that were big when I was a kid too (e.g. Sonic Mania is a 16 bit sonic game, Yooka Laylee is a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, Fast RMX is very similar to Star Wars episode 1 Racer, Crayola Scoot is a very kid-friendly version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater meets Splatoon, Crash and Spyro more or less speak for themselves)

    • Where is the best place to buy these games?

Is it like pc where a place who should not be named is super cheap compared to the Nintendo store or is the best time to just wait for deals and buy from the official store.

Looking for the lowest historical prices be it official or "unofficial".

      • Use DekuDeals.

It tracks the all time lowest prices from the Nintendo eShop and from Amazon. Not exactly definitive, but definitely handy. Also has price graphs so you can see how often and how cheap games go on sale for.

I think this will be the best resource I will get for finding Nintendo switch game deals.

          Thanks Ninternet.
