Who Has Right of Way? (Diagram Included)

You know the drill with these posts. Not asking for opinions, just want to know who has right of way.

Unsigned intersection, no traffic lights.

As for comprehension of language you seem to have no issue decipher these minor errors that haven’t affected the context. It seems you can understand despite these terrible errors like dropping a letter or two and switching a couple of others.

They are teaching us about multiplication and it’s taking all my concentration to work out how to do it. Spelling and comprehension is Monday, Tuesday. I’ll have to wait until then to help me find any more problems with my writing.

I’m trying to play the ball and no the man, but I’d probably spell douchebag wrong anyway.

                                                    • @Euphemistic: You couldn't squeeze out your douchebag sentence without omitting an apostrophe. For mathematics and probabilities, what is the chance of repeatedly spelling 'because' the same incorrect way actually being a typo?

                                                      • @[Deactivated]: I’ve forgotten, what are we arguing about? Surely it’s not my poor spelling and grammar.

                                                        • @Euphemistic: We were exploring whether your honorary Lakota Native Indian name should be 'Whispers with road rules' or 'Struggles with 2 syllable words'. Your turn now, Struggles!

                                                          • @[Deactivated]: That seems weird. Not sure why we’d be discussing that as I’m not a Native Indian.

                                                            • @Euphemistic: No need to be modest. You speak fluent Choctaw, or write it, at least.

                                                              • @[Deactivated]: You spelled that wrong.

                                                                • @Euphemistic: OK, I'll correct it. "You speak effluent". Much better! My 'ef' F1 hotkey is on the blink.

        • Alright, this has gone from a discussion about "right of way" into something personal. Please move on.

  • That's a hell of a sloppy road design

    • It is in Taswegia, so it was probably only tarred and sealed in the last few years after they all moved from horse and buggy to motorised carriages. :D

Green car has to give way 100%.

It doesn't matter if you look at it as a single 4x intersection or two separate T-intersections. In both cases the green car has to give way.

I personally think this is two separate T-Intersections, so that means red car has entered the main road 'upstream'… green car must give way to them regardless of whether the red car wants to turn or keep going straight.

But even if it's a 4 way cross intersection with 2 Give Way signs (it's not, but lets say it is). Once the cars have satisfied the Give Way line they virtually cancel each other out, and in that instance the green car can't cut in front.

There are no instances where the green car has "right of way" here. It's either arrived at the intersection much earlier than the red and proceeds through because there's no other cars there, or it gives way. Plain and simple.

    • Correct: It doesn't matter if it is a single 4x intersection or two separate T-intersections. In both cases the green car has to give way. It explains why designers of the intersection assumed it is clear

It's depend where both car was positioned, if red car already was in main road while green was turning then green need give way. If both car at end of small street and waiting clear traffic and both start moveing together more likely red should give way because that car had to cross many lanes for turning right while green needed only 1 turn.
mostly when accident happen yuu can know which car was hit which side of car will decide car position of both car.

When learning to drive many years ago in Victoria, I remember my instructor saying, always give way to cars that are already on the road that you are turning into, including the red car in this instance. Of course the T junction rule also applies to the green car, which by itself should rule out any doubts for the driver in the green car.

No wonder people drive like shit these days if they have to ask this question on OzB.
Even at a basic level, the Green car is turning right so they go last, full stop. Even though it's strictly two T's rather than intersection they'd be idiotic to think they don't have to give way to the red car on the opposite side.

Hey now there's an idea. Places like VicRoads should stock up on these OzB situations and use them in their computer Learner tests to weed people out so much better.

  • Right of way for this would be who would've pulled over the give way sign first and passed. Common courtesy? or does this not apply to these kind of intersection?

  • Just don't get in an accident.

Whoever's on the road first. That's why we have uturn must give way signs.

  • +1

The vehicle that enters the main road first doesn’t have to give way to the one that comes after.

  • Take out the fact that the red car is going straight ahead in a way and view it as joining the main road.
Both cars waiting to join the same lane, the red car has the right to join the lane first, green car is crossing over a lane to join the road so they give way.
If it was the other way around and the green car was turning left and the red car was crossing over the lane to join the story would be flipped.

  • Green car has right of way. OP is clearly a Tasmanian, which we all know drive on the right/wrong side of the road.

Dotted lines mean give way. There are give way lines on the red cars path. Green car appears to be on the main road of Tassie, coming from the florist turning on to the road to OP's brother/sister's. Must be OP.

I'm scared after seeing this poll, 98% wrong answers! WTF?
Did anybody notice broken white lines (aka "give way" lines) in the path of the red car? This means it must yield to green car.

For more details check here https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/safety-rules/road-rules/int… look at the "Give way signs and give way lines" section

Did you not notice the give way lines for the green car?

      • -1

They both have give way. It is first in, best dressed.

  • -1

According the to NSW roads and safety. The green car has right away, not the red. The dotted line signifies a type of giveaway sign.

    • The green car has a give way sign too.

It is a crossroad. The green car is turning right.

    • This is the photo from your link that shows this type of intersection. It even says that the “blue car” (B) has to give way (the same car (green) that has to give way in OP’s post.)

The photo you posted on imgur is totally irrelevant to OP’s question…

Please don’t tell me you have a license and you actively drive…

      • Just realised the direction is wrong. Woops

  • the privileged one

  • red car if it was already on the main road
