Best story beats of the trilogy. TR2, too much of a shooter and TR3 was too far in the other direction.

    • Regarding TR3, mind clarifying if that means, the shooting mechanics was subpar and the story was too heavy/confusing?

      • TR3 is like Highlander or any other super cheesy B grade movie. Cliches and one liners everywhere.

        Still fun and worth playing.

Shooting mechanics and play control and skills get better every iteration. But TR2, you're basically Rambo vs an army and in TR3 you can go hours without pulling the trigger.

        • Good analogy there.

I liked TR1's core story (survive the island) the most, but TR2 had a heap of retcons to actually link it back to the first one. The third one was waaay too item-focused for sure.

I also am annoyed that TR3 it neatly tied off the entire Trinity story from 2, without so much as a peep. So each game is almost completely independent (great for casual first-time players of each), but terrible when you want/expect a quality well-woven story over the 'trilogy'.

There is a massive disconnect between story and gameplay in TR1.

You are meant to be some weak, inexperienced in combat archaeologist who is reluctant to even kill a deer. She has a nervous break down after killing the first man.

But as soon as you put her in the hands of the player, she's a headshotting machine who will end the game with over 450 kills. The game even encourages headshotting by giving you bonus XP for head shots.

Compare body counts between original TR and TR 2013 here.

      Very amusing video.

        I like this comment.

Rise of the Tomb Raider (2nd one) is on Game Pass, if you want an almost identical game, you've already paid for XGP, and you're not sure if you'll like this first one

Looks like all three are on game pass: https://www.xbox.com/en-us/xbox-game-pass/games#

        You're right!

I was searching with the Xbox PC app, so I only saw the second one that's actually on PC. They're definitely all on the Xbox though.

I only knew since I just finished the definitive version on PS4 (which was great!) then realised I could play the whole series with the $1 game pass on Xbox. They're lots of fun, almost guilty I'm basically playing them for free haha.
