Logitech Premium 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub. $4.95 at Australia Post Shop, Campsie NSW (Possibly Others)

711

Hi there.
I went to the post office this afternoon and noticed this 4 port usb hub with power supply for only $4.95. The lady at the counter was also suprised when she scanned the product and saw it at that price. There is only one left at that post office but it is worth calling other post offices/shops to check for stock and price. Hopefully other people can get it at that price too. The cheapest price on Static Ice was $29.29 and it is not in stock. Good luck everyone.

  • USB hubs are $4 at MSY…

    Ooops… they're unpowered though…

5 bucks is cheap for powered…

  • $4 USB hubs are not premium LOL

I will pick this up if anyone can confim it is a national deal :)

  • +1

good price, but do yourself a favour and buy a powered one!

    • +1

      this is powered

      • +8

        i'm a dumbturd

        THIS IS A GOOD DEAL

      • i think he means powered by the USB, not external AC adapter, which i think this one is as it says 'power adapter included' in the pic

        • i think he means powered by the USB, not external AC adapter, which i think this one is.

          technically correct

The logitech one doesn't need to be connected to AC adapter while in use, but it only needs to be when it's nearly out(sorta like a ipod, where you need to charge when you use it)

          I now have this
          http://dicksmith.com.au/media/DSAU/Product/300x300/XH0518_0_…
and find it WAY better than the logitech one, as the targus one doesn't need to charge

  • Did it scan at that price or did they have to change it because of the sticker price?

  • Wow that's super cheap

Bought these yonks ago for $28

  • I LOVE this hub. Would be nice to score one, but I doubt it. :)

  • got this like 3-4 yrs ago for around $21 i think@jb hifi

its pretty gd! but Bluetooth dongle nv work on these usb hubs!

  • Great find, wondering if it is a national wide price?

  • multifunction printers wont work on this hub.

only works one way… ie printing. if you try and scan to back towards pc it wont work.

    • i got an unpowered one for $4 from MSY to extend the usb cable over 5 metres and it works fine for scanning and printing…

    • only works one way? dont quite get it
i could transfer files pc>mobile/portable HDD

im pretty sure ive tried it on my MFP. it works fine

    • +1

It's not possible for a USB hub to be "one-way" since even a seemingly one-way USB transfer involves control packets going the other direction. More likely the scanner didn't like being put on a hub. Some USB devices are like that.

      • Canon Multifunction Printer MP830 most definitely DOES NOT work with the above hub 150% sure. Updated drivers, phone calls to tech, nothing…. Got a different hub and works fine. Just sayin.

        • test it with shorter cables…

        • +1

Ah well you were unlucky to have a particular model that didn't play nice with this hub. That's different from claiming that all MFPs won't work with this hub.

    • USB 2.0: Released in April 2000.
Added higher maximum bandwidth of 480 Mbit/s (60 MB/s) (now called "Hi-Speed"). Further modifications to the USB specification have been done via Engineering Change Notices (ECN). The most important of these ECNs are included into the USB 2.0 specification package available from USB.org:

id say its this century….seeing as its 2011…..last decade maybe

      • What do you reckon they will call USB3?
        "Ultra-superdooper-hi-speed"? :)

        • Al Gore will claim he invented it & call it 'totally-super-cereal'! ;)

Now you listen here young whippersnapper… in my day all we had was the ISA bus and serial/parallel ports and we didn't compla… err, come to think of it we actually whinged all the time about how overdue they were for replacement.

      • yeah, what does a little tech-spoilt 12 yr old kid know about the history of computing.

    • How many USB 3.0 printers have you got? :)

I wouldn't mind finding one of these bargains. I'm still using a ancient 1.1 hub for my printer and occasional phone upload.

  • Wow this is cheap, could use some extra USB port on the front of my case.

  • +1

    Cheap price!

    Has anyone else found these?

  • Good deal as long as its either state wide or nation wide. If its just one store then LOL.

  • Just when I was thinking I need one! Thanks mate!

  • back from PO in Adelaide CBD
    stock : none.
Their DB shows 2 in St Agnes and 1 in Elizabeth.

  • Went to Parramatta and there are NONE in that store.

  • I'll have a look at my local today and report back.

  • No stock at North Sydney. I think this is store specific.

  • +1

not in Alexandria, btw, what a nice weather in sydney today!

    • +2

None at Dee Why… BTW it might be nice weather in Sydney today but its horrible at the Northern Beaches lol

      • +3

        thanks for the weather report…

        • +2

Hmm, you got a free + on that comment from me coz my cold fingers slipped on the voting button…I was gonna neg ya jv! ;)

        • +2

Never mind Stew, I'll +1 you for giving me a chuckle.

  • there is no stock at world square in the Sydney

  • No luck in Brisbane

  • no luck at martin place sydney.

  • Hey I was wondering if anyone knew about the speed of these things when all four ports are used up or even two.

If they stay the same then that would be a wicked way to turn 1USB3.0 port into 4USB3.0 ports when it comes out of course.

    • USB 3.0 hubs have been available for a while already. And of course bandwidth will be shared.

  • Confirmed works at other AusPost shops that have stock…I just grabbed one from Glendale, NSW! :)

  • Does anyone know if these will work with USB powered external hard drives (eg. WD passport, etc.). I've bought a couple of powered hubs on EBay, but yet to find one that will work with anything other than printers, memory sticks, wifi/bluetooth dongles, etc.

    • I use a powered external hub and a y-cable on my usb powered drives because of issues I've had with USB ports on motherboards not providing enough power even with a y-cable. There should be no problem as long as you have it plugged in. The crap you find on ebay might be why they aren't working. I'm using a low priced mbeat 13 port powered usb hub from CoTD and have been for at least a year now. It's great with my drives.

  • none in Pyrmont either. too bad cos i needed one as my laptop only have 3 usb ports. :(

  • no stock in Macquarie Fields, NSW

  • +2

I have to neg this as I went to 2 post offices in Melbourne today and neither had any stock, or any label on the shelf, so this is not a generally available item. In fact it is pure a$$ as to if you get one at all. Judging by the comments on this page only 2 people ever got one at this price.

Therefore this post has been a HUGE time waster for most people trying to track it down…

    • +1

I agree with you a little bit but I didn't take the deal seriously, I just peeked in a couple of POs on my way past. That's the nature of these marked down deals. So I won't -1 the deal but I'll +1 you.

    • I think it's fine to post even if just for the few people that did get one. I'm sure more get them but didn't post. I'll check some Australia Posts but at least I know based on the comments not to go out of my way to get one.

Your neg is valid and I won't revoke it - because I can't as I'm not a mod

      • And it wouldn't be right to revoke it based on his experience. I never get wrapped up in these limited clearance items, usually never going out of my deal to track down these elusive product because more often that not you will be dissapointed.

  • There were none in Lane Cove.

  • I had this exact same USB Hub, paid about $40 for it a few years back from Dick Smith.

It died on me after about a year of use, which was annoying, but I was running a few powered USB hubs of various brands at the time.

It's the only Logitech product that's ever broken on me, which says alot since I've bought alot of Logitech stuff in the past.

Even with the problems I had with it, for $5 it's a steal

  • not at Manly or Warringah Mall.
The Blutech USB2 x 4 unpowered hub at Elect Boutique is 1/2 price at $10 and works fine on PS3 with 3rd party controller, wheel and camera. Not with extn HDD though. Other hubs haven't at all. So far so good on a PC!

  • +1

I think this is NSW specific. The two people who have reported that they got one are both from there. I was able to track down an old dusty unit in a Victorian store, but it scanned at $29.95. When I showed the staff the deal they said that it is probably because NSW are on a different system, I take it there is a different price system for each state so they can do their own catalogue specials etc. Great price though if you can get one, I remember these were about $40 when they came out, they were the closest visual match for my shiny (fat) PS3 :).

    • It does indeed sound like a nice matching set with a PS3 because of the glossy black finish. Interesting to bear in mind about the pricing differences between states for AP, didn't realise this.

  • none in nsw, one left in fyshwick act as per 13POST rep.
