Recommend Me a Didgeridoo (Melbourne)

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a didgeridoo as a gift to be used as an instrument (as opposed to a decorative ornament). I've been told to look for one that has lots of back pressure as these will be easier for a beginner to play.

Does anyone know where one might start looking for one? I'm in Melbourne if it makes a difference.

Cheers :)

winner of the most random item on ozbargain for 2019

  • Melbourne Music Centre (Ormond) sell them, but I don't know anything about them.

  • Gumtree

There are lots of sellers just go for an unpainted one

      "Didgeridoo, needs work" + a picture of a 4x8.

      • That’s a bit of a dodgeridoo.

    • gumtree branches are usually unpainted, yes

  • Just don't carry it on public transport.

    • Why? Possibly dangerous?

Melbourne CBD was brought to a standstill due to panic.

"Melbourne’s Flagstaff train station was evacuated on Thursday morning after Victoria police responded to a false alarm of a gunman, which may have been sparked by an Aboriginal busker with a didgeridoo in a bag."

"It was a busker. He was actually doing breathing exercises preparing for his act. It was a sports duffel bag,” Bugeja said.

Funny, but pretty shocking seeing Melbourne shut down over this.

        • Long heavy item in a duffle bag plus a dark skinned fella (sorry to say you know this was a factor) breathing heavily? That's a bad recipe.

        • Wow, that's unbelievable. Thanks for the heads up. Will refrain from doing any breathing exercises on the train.

        • Yikes. That's appalling. How's the poor guy supposed to feel after that, Geez, we treat the first nations/ Koori people so badly.

There's a Euro looking type in the Bourke Street Mall or thereabouts who does great things with a didgeridoo. They're quite engaging instruments.

I've got a left over bit of PVC pipe you can have, the kids reckon it holds a decent tune.

A used dunny roll centre makes an excellent trumpet too.

There used to be someone in the Lakes Entrance/Lake Tyers area who made them, but that was a while back.

    Expensive gift.

  • A few moments later…

"Help. My neighbour's washing machine/dryer is making extremely loud and strange noise."

  • A stump from a kanga cricket kit. We (3 of us) learned how to play quite well in grade 4.

Or skip 50 000+ of culture/tradition and go straight to aliexpress

  • to be used as an instrument

Dear god no. Something like a secondhand violin would actually produce a pleasant sound.

    • Someone forgot to tell the neighbour kid's violin.

    • It could… Not sure if it would
